The Best Cocktail Making Class In York At Jalou

If you’re looking for the best cocktail-making class in York, look no further than Jalou! Previously known as “Parish”, Jalou York is now one of the best places in the city on Friday and Saturday nights.

The atmosphere at Jalou York is something that I’ve always loved as it’s always so happy, vibrant and bubbly; quite like the members of staff who hold the place together!

In my guide below, I’m sharing my detailed experience of cocktail-making at Jalou York!

The interior of Jalou York is so beautiful, with lush purple decor, stunning light features and a plethora of different seats to relax on.

The cocktail bar is set across two stories, with the club dancefloor downstairs and a more relaxed, but super fun VIP area upstairs. The cocktail masterclass took place on the second floor of the bar and as it was a Friday night (and the York races had just finished) we had an awesome view of all the drunken people below!

Our evening was hosted by two lovely ladies who were absolute pros at cocktail-making. We were welcomed by a glass of prosecco and a delicious fruity shot that was perfect for kicking our Friday evening off in style.

Seated in the upstairs VIP lounge of Jalou, I felt very special indeed; it was ever so nice to receive that quality attention and service from the barmaids as it really made the whole experience wonderful.

We were incredibly lucky that we were able to make two cocktails throughout the course of the evening and as it was such a lovely sunny day, I opted for summer-inspired cocktails.

My first choice was the summery Watermelon Daiquiri which I didn’t actually take a picture of as I practically inhaled it as soon as I’d finished making it!

The Watermelon Daiquiri is the ideal cocktail for a summer evening; the rum, lime and watermelon syrup concoction makes for the most mouth-watering, heady drink and it was so moreish. Finished off with a little frozen watermelon ball, this cocktail really couldn’t be more perfect for the warmer months.

As there were about ten of us attending the cocktail masterclass, naturally we couldn’t all fit behind the bar at the same time to create our cocktails, so while we were waiting for others to complete the creations, we took some time to learn more about Jalou.

My second cocktail of the night was the Frozen Strawberry Lemonade which I could have happily drank litres of!

The strawberry and citrus flavours complimented each other so well and the frozen element of the cocktail was refreshing in the summer heat.

The actual cocktail-making part of the night was so much fun and it was amazing to see how everything worked behind the bar. There are so many different things to remember when creating bespoke cocktails so I really take my hat off to the wonderful team at Jalou York who works to an exceptional standard while still maintaining a wonderfully friendly demeanour.

I had such a lovely night at the cocktail masterclass at Jalou York and I really can’t thank them enough for inviting me along to try out their new cocktail menu!
