Benidorm is a destination that I’d heard a lot about over the years, and let’s be honest – not all of it was good…

It’s for that reason, that I’d never really considered adding Benidorm to my travel bucket list, but when the team at Jet2 got in touch and asked if I would be interested in joining one of their holidays to Benidorm with a wonderful group of people that I’d already met, I felt like it was a great opportunity to experience this sunny Spanish seaside city for myself.

This was my fifth trip with Jet2, having been lucky enough to visit Jersey, Madeira, Palma, and the Algarve with them in previous years, so I was very much looking forward to adding another trip to my roster!

We spent three nights at Innside Costablanca with Jet2holidays, which I think was the perfect amount of time to experience Benidorm for the first time, as it allowed us to enjoy plenty of fun activities, as well as some downtime.

Jet2 offer flights to Benidorm via Alicante, including daily flights from London Stansted Airport, making it super quick, easy, and convenient to spend a weekend in Benidorm from the UK.

Best things to do on a weekend in Benidorm

If you’re thinking about booking a weekend away in Benidorm, I’ve rounded up some of the best things to do in Benidorm beyond the typical tourist attractions!

1. Go wine tasting at Bodegas Enrique Mendoza

One of my favourite things that we did during our weekend in Benidorm was a fantastic tour and wine tasting experience at Bodegas Enrique Mendoza.

Our tour took us through the enormous wine cellars which store over 500,000 bottles, as well as into the underground bottling cellar which was fascinating to see.

We then made our way into a gorgeous sunroom where we enjoyed a wonderful wine tasting experience, complimented by a charcuterie pairing board. We tried seven different wines on our tasting experience, including a white, a rosé, and five reds, with each wine paired with a meat or cheese from the charcuterie board.

The wine tours and tasting experiences at Bodegas Enrique Mendoza start at just €30pp, which I think is incredibly reasonable for the experience that you get!

2. Explore the Old Town

Amongst the negative narrative that I’d heard about Benidorm before visiting myself, I had actually heard good things about the city’s Old Town, and I was delighted to discover that it really is very beautiful, and feels very authentically Spanish.

There are beautiful churches, gorgeous courtyard areas, and brilliant cobbled streets to discover. There are, of course, still bars and restaurants in the Old Town, but it’s nowhere near as busy or chaotic as some other parts of the city, making it a truly lovely place to wander around for an hour or two.

3. Go e-biking through Serra Gelada Natural Park

As much as I’ve tried to, I’ve never really loved cycling, as I always find it too uncomfortable and often exhausting, so when I saw that e-biking was on our weekend in Benidorm itinerary, I was a little nervous.

However, the fact that we had e-bikes (hired via Tao Bike Benidorm) made our expedition into Serra Gelada Natural Park so much easier and a lot more fun (once I figured out how to actually work the power!).

Serra Gelada Natural Park was also another surprising spot for me, as I didn’t realise just how much beautiful nature and greenery surrounds the city! You can also hike up into the park from the city centre of Benidorm, but it’s a lot easier on an e-bike!

4. Enjoy cocktails at Selvático Rooftop Bar and dinner at Exótico

If you’ve read my blog or followed me on Instagram for a long time, you’ll know there are fewer things I love more when travelling than discovering a good rooftop bar, and while Benidorm is home to quite a few rooftops, Selvático Rooftop Bar was my favourite spot!

Located on the 17th floor of the Primavera Park Hotel, Selvático Rooftop Bar is home to plenty of seating areas, including relaxing day beds, as well as a stunning infinity pool, surrounded by city skyline and sea views.

The cocktails here are also fantastic; I had the Red Berry Splash, which consisted of bourbon, forest fruits, lime juice, fresh raspberries, and red fruit soda, and it was definitely the best drink I had during my entire weekend in Benidorm!

On the first floor of Primavera Park Hotel, you’ll find the hotel’s signature restaurant, Exótico, which also happened to be the best meal I had in Benidorm!

I shared the dry-aged beef steak with wine reduction, truffle mayonnaise, and grilled onion, and paired it with red pesto potatoes and stir-fried vegetables, and every single thing was absolutely delicious!

Exótico is definitely one of Benidorm’s more luxurious restaurants, so it’s perfect for a romantic meal as a couple or a boujee meal with friends during a weekend in Benidorm.

5. Go jet skiing

Despite travelling to over 55+ countries during my seven years as a digital nomad, I had never been jet skiing until I arrived in Benidorm.

I have, however, partaken in plenty of adrenaline-junkie activities, such as bungy jumping, sky diving, skiing, luge-riding, scuba diving, and many more, so I really thought that jet skiing would be a breeze…

To cut a long story short, jet skiing absolutely petrified me, and while I’m super proud of myself for doing it, I don’t think I’ll be in a rush to do it again anytime soon!

Having said that, jet skiing is an awesome thing to do on a weekend in Benidorm if you’re looking to experience a fun and thrilling water sports activity, especially if you book through Carlos Water Sports Benidorm, as they have over 40 years of water sports experience.

You can book a 30-minute jet ski experience for two people for €100 or an hour’s excursion for €180 for two people.

6. Head on an off-road Jeep tour

Jeep tours are something I have actually done quite a lot before in various countries around the world, and if off-roading excursions are your kind of thing, you should definitely add a Jeep safari with Marco Polo Expediciones to your weekend in Benidorm itinerary.

Marco Polo Expediciones offer dozens of incredible activities in and around Benidorm, including go karting, quad biking, horseback riding, paint balling, and many more, and while I can’t personally vouch for these experiences from a first-hand perspective, if they’re anything like the Jeep safari we took, you’ll be in for a real treat!

7. Eat your way along Tapas Alley

No trip to Spain would be complete without indulging in quintessential Spanish tapas, and thankfully, Benidorm boasts an entire street of tapas restaurants, known as “Tapas Alley”.

There are plenty of tapas and pintxos restaurants along C. de Santo Domingo (Tapas Alley), so you could easily enjoy a different snack at each spot. We ate at La Tapería Aurrera on the first night of our weekend in Benidorm and dined on a feast of patatas bravas, meatballs, croquettes, padrón peppers, bread, and more!

8. Spend the afternoon on the beach

Yet another thing that surprised me in Benidorm was just how beautiful and pristine the beaches are! The sand was soft and lovely, the sea was remarkably warm (even in October) and there was virtually no litter whatsoever!

If you only have a couple of days in Benidorm, you might not want to spend the entire time on the beach, but I would definitely recommend allocating at least a few hours to wandering along the sand and swimming in the sea!

9. Treat yourself to coffee and cake at Moka Bloom

As much as I want to be a coffee girl, it just really isn’t for me, but I do absolutely love a visit to a coffee shop (especially when there’s a sweet treat involved) and our visit to Moka Bloom was one of my highlights from our weekend in Benidorm.

Instead of coffee (which were absolutely delicious, according to my friends!), I opted for the ‘pink latte” which was essentially a mix-up between a strawberry smoothie and a milkshake and it was divine!

We also ordered various sweet treats at Moka Bloom, including a decadent chocolate torte, basque cheesecake, and chocolate chip cookies.

Moka Bloom is a coffee shop/florist hybrid, and they also sell gorgeous household items such as vases, coffee cups, mugs, glasses, bowls, flowerpots, and more. I came home with two beautiful mini crystal glasses that were less than €5 each!

10. Go early morning sea kayaking

Kayaking is one of my favourite water sport activities, and I’ve been lucky enough to do it in various places around the world, including in the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and most recently, closer to home in Wales!

However, our kayaking excursion in Benidorm was the first time I’ve ever been kayaking out in the open sea, and it was actually harder than I anticipated at times due to the waves and navigating away from the rocky shores!

It was a great way to start a Saturday morning during our weekend in Benidorm, however, and it’s an activity that would be great for couples, friends, and even families!

Conclusion – how to spend a weekend in Benidorm

I hope you found this post about weekend holidays in Benidorm useful and I hope it’s inspired some ideas for your next trip!

Despite hearing so many “Brits abroad” stories about Benidorm, I can’t quite believe just how much there is to do away from the typical tourist spots, and I was blown away by just how clean it is!
