I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy views of the Manhattan skyline from dozens of NYC rooftop bars, and while I can definitely pick out a few of my firm favourites, it might be hard to beat the views from Somewhere Nowhere Rooftop Bar, especially at sunset (check the Somewhere Nowhere NYC photos throughout this guide to see what I mean!).

Spanning a two-level indoor lounge and outdoor terrace on the 38th and 39th floors of the Renaissance New York Chelsea Hotel, Somewhere Nowhere is a super fun rooftop in NYC that comprises of a rooftop bar, lounge, and nightclub with swimming pool.

Somewhere Nowhere NYC Review - Rooftop Bar, Lounge & Pool

I will preface this review of Somewhere Nowhere NYC by saying that it is one of the more expensive and exclusive rooftop bars and nightclubs in New York City, especially if you attend their weekend nightlife events. However, if you’re just looking for the laidback, poolside rooftop lounge vibes, Somewhere Nowhere offers that and more!

There are numerous things to experience on a visit to Somewhere Nowhere as it offers a rooftop terrace with some of the best rooftop views in New York City, a magnificent rooftop pool, complete with sun loungers and outdoor sofas, as well as an indoor lounge, bar, and dedicated nightlife events with worldwide DJs!

If you’re just looking to take in the views of the city, enjoy a cocktail or two, and just generally soak up the beautiful atmosphere, I would recommend visiting Somewhere Nowhere as soon as it opens at 5 PM (Wednesday to Sunday!). Views from Somewhere Nowhere Rooftop Chelsea

The views from Somewhere Nowhere NYC are truly up there with some of the very best rooftop views in the whole of New York City (in my opinion!).

We timed our visit to Somewhere Nowhere perfectly (at 5 PM, just as the bar was opening for the evening), so that we were able to enjoy the vistas during daylight hours, at golden hour/sunset, and then once night had fallen on the city and it lit up with millions of twinkling lights.

From the outdoor rooftop terrace of Somewhere Nowhere, you can enjoy unparalleled views of the Empire State Building, Edge/Hudson Yards, Summit One Vanderbilt, as well as many other skyscrapers that punctuate the New York City skyline.

Seeing the views of the city from the 39th floor of Somewhere Nowhere is an experience I’ll never forget, and it’s a place that I would recommend to everyone (providing they are 21+!).

Somewhere Nowhere NYC menu

To be perfectly candid (as I endeavour to be with all my reviews/guides!), the menu at Somewhere Nowhere NYC isn’t actually my favourite…!

First of all, the food menu is very expensive, and while I am certainly used to pricey food menus at NYC rooftops, I personally think that the food menu at Somewhere Nowhere is a little too pricey!

For example, you’ll find dishes such as Wagyu beef sliders for $27, truffle tortellini for $29, tacos for $33, and chicken parmesan bites for $34!

The cocktail menu, however, is actually relatively reasonably priced (by New York rooftop standards, anyway!), with all cocktails priced at $20. Beer ranges from $10 to $12 and wine ranges from $15 to $18.

During our visit to Somewhere Nowhere, we were very kindly treated to two cocktails each and a sharing dish of the buttermilk fried chicken tacos ($33).

Despite the extortionate price tag, we were a little underwhelmed by the chicken tacos as it was a very small portion for the price (I’m talking $11 per taco!), and the chicken itself was a little dry and overcooked. They were certainly very flavoursome, but I definitely don’t think they’re worth $33!

For our cocktails, I opted for the Lavender Eastside and the Manna-Hata, while Matt chose the Summer Solstice and Above the Clouds (all pictured below). I particularly enjoyed the Lavender Eastside cocktail and the Above the Clouds, but all four of our cocktails were fresh, tasty, and very strong!

Somewhere Nowhere happy hour

Unlike the typical “happy hour” deals that many other NYC rooftop clubs and bars offer, Somewhere Nowhere hosts its very own “Martini Power Hour” from 5 PM to 7PM, Wednesday to Saturday (this is actually the time that I would recommend visiting Somewhere Nowhere as it’s the best time to enjoy cocktails and the views from the rooftop before the expensive nightlife events begin).

During the “Martini Power Hour”, you can enjoy various recreations of the classic martini, all for just $12!

Somewhere Nowhere NYC Rooftop Pool

There are several rooftop pools in New York City, including Mr. Purple Rooftop Bar at Hotel Indigo Lower East Side, Margaritaville Resort Times Square, The William Vale Williamsburg, Hotel Indigo Williamsburg, and Somewhere Nowhere at the Renaissance Hotel Chelsea, to name a few!

The rooftop bar and pool at Mr. Purple will always remain among my favourites, but the rooftop terrace and pool area at Somewhere Nowhere is pretty special too! We didn’t actually swim in the pool during our visit to Somewhere Nowhere, but we did enjoy a leisurely 2-hour reservation on the outdoor rooftop terrace, sipping delicious cocktails while admiring the breathtaking views of Manhattan from above!

The pool is typically open for use by hotel guests and visitors from the end of May until October.

Reservations for the use of the pool and daybeds cost $165 per person for up to 2 hours and includes a bottle of rose. The pool is open for swimming from Wednesday to Sunday from 12 PM until 4.30 PM, weather permitting.

Somewhere Nowhere Nightlife

As well as its incredible rooftop pool and lounge area, complete with some of the best views of the Manhattan skyline, Somewhere Nowhere is also renowned for being one of the best rooftop clubs in New York City.

Almost every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the 38th floor of the Renaissance New York Chelsea Hotel transforms into a hip nightclub with DJs and live music performances, usually starting at 11 PM and lasting all the way until 4 AM!

Somewhere Nowhere NYC Igloo

Similarly to the igloos available at one of my all-time favourite NYC rooftop bars (230 Fifth), Somewhere Nowhere also host their very own igloos on the 39th floor outdoor rooftop terrace during the winter months (typically from November to January, but exact dates vary year on year).

The igloos transform the outdoor terrace from a summer rooftop haven to a cosy winter wonderland (the igloos are even placed on top of the covered rooftop pool!). They each seat a maximum of 5 guests for up to two hours and each reservation comes with a complimentary bottle of champagne, and the option to order more food and drinks.

Is Somewhere Nowhere NYC 21+?

Somewhere Nowhere is a 21+ venue, which means no children are permitted at the rooftop bar at anytime.

Do you need a valid ID to gain entry to the rooftop?

You will be required to show a valid form of ID when visiting Somewhere Nowhere, regardless of age, so remember to bring your passport or driving licence with you!

Do you need a reservation to visit Somewhere Nowhere Rooftop club in NYC?

Reservations are required for certain events and bookings at Somewhere Nowhere, including the nightlife and day parties, poolside daybed reservations, Jazz Wednesday sessions, comedy night events, and the Somewhere Nowhere NYC NYE party!

While it is not entirely essential, I would also recommend making a reservation for both the indoor rooftop enclosure and the outdoor rooftop terrace (where the pool can be found). These are available on a walk-in basis, but they can get very busy, very quickly, so I would always recommend making a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment.

Outdoor rooftop terrace: $0 to reserve but you do need to provide a credit card upon booking as a $50 per person no-show fee will be charged if you cancel within less than 24 hours or do not show at all.
Gotham Jazz Wednesday: Same as above.
Comedy Night: Somewhere Funny, Nowhere Serious: $20 per person. $50 cancellation and no-show fee will be charged if you do not attend.
Rooftop pool & daybed: $165 per person – prepaid reservations required.

What is the Somewhere Nowhere NYC dress code?

The dress code at Somewhere Nowhere NYC varies depending on whether you’re attending the casual indoor/outdoor rooftop terrace, a day event or a nightlife event. Here are the different dress codes depending on which event you’re attending at the rooftop bar.

Nightlife dress code: Smart casual; no shorts, athletic wear, team logos, flip flops/slides, extravagant sneakers or tank tops.
Daylife dress code: Smart casual; shorts are allowed for daylife events only. No athletic wear, and/or team logos, flip flops/slides, extravagant sneakers or tank tops.
Afterwork dress code (including indoor/outdoor terrace): Smart casual; no shorts, athletic wear, team logos, or tank tops.
Rooftop pool/daybed dress code: Appropriate swimwear is advised, with cover-ups required for entering/leaving the rooftop.

How much does a table cost at Somewhere Nowhere NYC?

While you don’t necessarily need a reservation for the indoor and outdoor rooftop seating areas, if you’re planning to experience one of the daylife or nightlife parties at Somewhere Nowhere, you may be subject to a booking fee/deposit, as well as a minimum spend required for the whole table.

For example, there is a minimum beverage spend during their weekend nightclub events with local and international DJs from 11 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. I’ve included the minimum spends below:

Minimum beverage spend of $1,500 for up to 6 guests.
Minimum beverage spend of $2,000 for up to 10 guests.
Minimum beverage spend of $3,000 for up to 15 guests.
Minimum beverage spend of $4,000 for up to 20 guests.
