This Cedar Manor Windermere review contains mentions of a press stay experience. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own; please see my disclaimer for more.

As a full-time travel writer for over seven years, I have been lucky enough to stay in hundreds of hotels, Airbnbs, guesthouses, and all sorts of budget and luxury accommodation.

However, one of my favourite stays I’ve ever experienced was much closer to home at Cedar Manor in Windermere; an absolutely stunning boutique guesthouse/manor hotel in the heart of the Lake District.

Matt and I were lucky enough to spend two nights at Cedar Manor Windermere over my 28th birthday weekend, and it truly was one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had, largely due to our incredible experience at Cedar Manor.

If you’re planning a trip to the Lake District, and you’re looking for the perfect accommodation just a short walk from Lake Windermere, check out my review of Cedar Manor Hotel Windermere!

Cedar Manor Windermere

Cedar Manor Windermere

Owned and run by the loveliest couple, Jonathan and Caroline, Cedar Manor is just a 5-minute drive from Bowness-on-Windermere, a 15-minute drive from Kendal, and a 15-20 minute drive from Ambleside/Grasmere, so it’s in the perfect location for exploring the Lake District and the rest of Cumbria.

Driving into the grounds of the property, you’re greeted by a gorgeous, sprawling lawn and the manor house itself; I audibly gasped as we drove in as I was blown away by the sheer beauty of the house!

Rooms and suites at Cedar Manor Windermere

Rooms and suites at Cedar Manor Windermere

There are ten rooms/suites at Cedar Manor, all named after local landmarks or nearby locations.

Upon checking into Cedar Manor, we were greeted by Jonathan, who instantly made us feel so welcome and right at home. We were then shown to our room (or rather, suite!) and we were so excited to check into the Coach House Suite…!

Coach House Suite

As I mentioned above, I’ve stayed in hundreds of incredible hotels all around the world, and even dozens across the UK, but Cedar Manor is up there amongst some of the best places I’ve ever stayed.

We spent two nights in the Coach House Suite, and I could have quite happily moved all my belongings in and stayed there permanently; it truly felt like a home away from home.

The suite is located in its own separate building, but still right next door to the main hotel, and is set out across two floors, with the bedroom and main bathroom located on the ground floor.

The attention to detail across the entire suite is absolutely remarkable; Caroline has done such an incredible job ensuring everything has been thought of to create a memorable and enjoyable stay.

The super king bed is outrageously comfortable, and I loved the addition of the two-seater sofa, as well as a dedicated dressing table and stool, plus giant floor-length mirrors on sliding door wardrobes; it truly is the perfect bedroom suite!

The bathroom is one of the best hotel bathrooms I’ve ever experienced, with two individual sinks (a feature that I always love in bathrooms!), a super cool futuristic-looking toilet and a separate waterfall shower and enormous spa bath!

The spa bath was a very pleasant surprise when we checked into the Coach House Suite at Cedar Manor, as I couldn’t believe how big it was! A relaxing bubble bath on the evening of my birthday with a bottle of my favourite champagne is a memory that I’ll remember forever.

Heading upstairs to the upper level of the Coach House Suite, I was once again blown away by the impressiveness of the space. Beautifully decorated in earthy tones of green, grey, and wood, the living area boasts a giant sofa that could comfortably fit an entire family of four (and it also pulls out into a sofa bed), as well as a wall-mounted TV, gorgeous greenery, and a sizeable coffee table.

Even with the less-than-ideal UK spring weather, the entire space was so bright and airy, yet felt super cosy at the same time, which is another huge commendation to Caroline for creating such a beautiful space!

Towards the back of the suite, there is an entire dining area, complete with a four-seater dining table and chairs, a small fridge with a wine cooler section, a microwave, toaster, and a built-in hot water tap for coffee and tea making facilities.

There is also an upstairs bathroom with a shower, which is ideal if you’re sharing the suite with friends or family as you can enjoy separate bathrooms.

One thing in particular about the Coach House Suite that’s worth mentioning is that you can request to book the entire suite with access to both floors, or you can just opt for the ground floor bedroom if you don’t want to pay for the entire space.

Personally, I would 100% recommend booking the entire suite, especially if you’re staying for a few days as the upstairs living and dining area make for the perfect place to relax on an evening, but the downstairs bedroom is also plenty spacious on its own, so it’s entirely up to you!

Rates start at £450 per night for the full Coach House Suite or £325 per night for the Junior Suite option (just the downstairs bedroom).

Orrest Head Suite

Orrest Head Suite

While I would happily recommend booking the Coach House Suite all day long, I also wanted to share some of the other rooms and suites available to book at Cedar Manor Windermere, as there is such an excellent choice on offer!

The Orrest Head Suite is one of three suites at Cedar Manor, and while it is smaller than the Coach House Suite, it is still such a gorgeous room! The suite features a separate bedroom and sitting area, as well as a spectacular ensuite bathroom, complete with luxury toiletries and a beautiful walk-in shower.

Rates to stay in the Orrest Head Suite start at £275 per night.

Bowness Junior Suite

Aside from the Coach House Suite that we stayed in, the Bowness Junior Suite is probably my favourite room at Cedar Manor Windermere as even though it’s not quite as big as the other two suites, it’s so beautifully decorated and feels so homely, particularly with the gorgeous blue and yellow accents!

Rates to stay in the Bowness Junior Suite start at £255 per night.

Windermere Room

The Windermere Room is another stunning room and would make for the perfect choice for an autumn or winter getaway at Cedar Manor as it feels super cosy and warm. I also love the four-poster bed, as well as the two chairs situated right next to the window; just imagine enjoying your morning cup of coffee here!

Rates start at £245 per night for the Windermere Room at Cedar Manor Hotel.

Crinkle Crags Room

Crinkle Crags Room

The Crinkle Crags Room is one of the smaller rooms at Cedar Manor, but it is still incredibly charming with beautiful furnishings and comforting amenities.

Rates start at £175 per night to stay in the Crinkle Crags Room.

Dining

Afternoon tea in the Lake District

While Cedar Manor Windermere doesn’t offer food in the traditional sense of lunch and dinner, they do have an incredible breakfast menu, as well as an elegant and sophisticated afternoon tea offering, and during our stay at Cedar Manor, we were lucky enough to try both! If my review of Cedar Manor Windermere hasn’t convinced you to book a stay already, hopefully the next section all about dining at the hotel will help persuade you!

Before we get onto the exciting food on offer, however, I wanted to share a little something about the beauty and charm of the dining locations at Cedar Manor. There are multiple lounge/bar areas inside the manor house, where you can enjoy the afternoon tea setup, or just a delicious glass of wine on an evening.

The lounges are as beautiful and ornately decorated as the rest of the house, with such a warm and welcoming feel throughout the entire property.

Breakfast

As part of our stay in the Coach House Suite, we were lucky enough to experience a luxury and private breakfast in the upstairs dining area of the suite which truly made us feel like royalty; it was such an elevated experience that we felt so lucky to enjoy!

Of course, the breakfast itself was tremendous, and over the course of two days, we got to try the traditional full English breakfast, the classic eggs benedict, and the American-style pancakes with bacon and maple syrup.

Each dish was beautifully presented and so incredibly tasty, and I loved that we got to experience dining in both the private suite of the Coach House, as well as inside the main dining room of the manor house.

Afternoon tea at Cedar Manor Windermere

Afternoon tea is one of my favourite dining experiences, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience some of the best and most famous afternoon teas in the world, including The Palm Court at The Plaza Hotel and at the Blue Box Café, both in New York City. However, the afternoon tea we had at Cedar Manor Windermere might have just been one of the best I’ve ever had!

We started with two surprising appetisers, consisting of a carrot and parsnip soup in a teeny tiny mug, as well as a minuscule portion of fish and chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas.

Despite their tiny size, these starters were absolutely delicious, and it was the perfect way to begin our afternoon tea dining experience.

Of course, like all traditional afternoon teas, the one at Cedar Manor also comprised of a selection of sandwiches, fruit and plain scones, and a hearty helping of delectable mini cakes and desserts.

I’m quite a fussy sandwich eater, which means the simpler the better for me, and while the sandwiches we had were delicious (including smoked salmon and lemon butter, ham with honey mustard, egg mayonnaise with watercress, and cucumber with cream cheese and dill), I typically go for much plainer sandwiches.

The scones, cakes, and mini desserts on the other hand, were amongst some of the best I’ve ever had, particularly the rhubarb and custard crumble, the raspberry trifle, and the mini lemon meringue pie; they were all so delicious!

I should also mention that the actual tea we had was also divine! I opted for the traditional Cedar Manor Lakeland Blend which was essentially an elevated English breakfast tea, while Matt opted for the Rooibos Red Tea.
