Azul is one of the best rooftop bars in SoHo NYC, open seasonally from April to October. This Cuban-inspired rooftop bar boasts impeccable views of Lower Manhattan and is also kid-friendly, meaning that you can visit as a family (as long as under 21s are accompanied by an adult!).

Azul Rooftop at Hotel Hugo NYC

Azul on the Rooftop is a seasonal rooftop and Cuban Cantina in New York City, located on the 22nd floor of Hotel Hugo NYC and is open from the 1st of April until the 31st of October each year.

Just two floors below Azul, you’ll also find Bar Hugo Rooftop, which is the year-round indoor rooftop of the hotel, so if you’re visiting New York between November and March, you can still enjoy the rooftop experience, but from the comfort of the indoor lounge, rather than the outdoor rooftop terrace.

If you are heading to NYC during the summer months, however, I would 100% encourage you to add Azul to your list of must-visit rooftop bars in New York City as it’s one of my favourite spots in Lower Manhattan.

The views are pretty epic, the food is yummy, and the cocktails are strong; what more could you ask for from an NYC rooftop?!

During our visit to Azul, we were treated to a cocktail each and two items from the snack menu. Our cocktails were from the old menu at Azul Rooftop, so you might not find them on the menu now, but you can certainly expect similar flavours and spirits in the form of mezcal, gin, and vodka!

For food, we chose the grilled chicken quesadillas which were absolutely delicious! We also ordered the Cubano sandwich, which again, was super tasty, although the bread was just a tad dry; the delightful flavours of the roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard more than made up for it though!

Food and drink at Azul Rooftop is actually very reasonably priced in my opinion, especially by New York rooftop bar standards, with most cocktails priced at $20, and most dishes priced between $10 and $20.

As well as plenty of Mexican and Cuban-inspired dishes, Azul on the Rooftop also offers dishes such as burgers, salads, fries, and hummus with pita.

We found the portions to be very generously sized, and as I mentioned above, pretty reasonably priced for a New York rooftop!

Azul also host their very own happy hour deals on Sundays and Mondays, as well as Taco Tuesdays where they offer various exclusive specials on tacos and margaritas. Happy hour deals and hosting hours vary, so be sure to check the Bars at Hotel Hugo Instagram page for up-to-date details!

From Azul Rooftop, you can enjoy breathtaking 360 degree views of Lower Manhattan, including the One World Trade Center, the Hudson River, the New Jersey skyline, and even a teeny, tiny view of the Statue of Liberty!

While it’s not my number one favourite rooftop bar for views in New York City (that award probably goes to 230 Fifth or Somewhere Nowhere!), I do love the Downtown Manhattan views that Azul boasts, and it’s particularly beautiful at sunset, so time your visit for golden hour if you can!

Is there a cover charge to visit Azul SoHo Rooftop Bar?

There is no cover charge to visit Azul on the Rooftop and no minimum spend required.

What is the dress code at Azul Rooftop Bar NYC?

The dress code at Azul Rooftop is “casual chic“, with trainers being permitted at the rooftop. You can certainly dress up if you want to, but the whole vibe is pretty relaxed and casual.

The Bar Hugo Rooftop on the 20th and 21st floors just below Azul on the Rooftop is a slightly more formal events space, where a more sophisticated and formal attire is appropriate.

Do you need a reservation for Azul Rooftop Bar SoHo New York?

Reservations are not required when visiting Azul at Hotel Hugo Rooftop as they try to ensure that at least a few tables are available for walk-ins.

However, if you want to guarantee a certain time/day for your visit, or if you’re planning to visit with a larger party, it’s a good idea to reserve a table online in advance.
