My Ultimate A to Z Country Bucket List - Best Countries In The World

I think it’s pretty clear to see by now on my blog just how much I love bucket lists. While I’m not actually the biggest fan of the term itself, nor do I really like the concept of the whole “before I die” thing, I do enjoy writing lists and goals and setting myself targets, especially when it comes to travelling.

I’m also not someone who plans to, or even actually wants to visit every single country in the world; there are just some places that really don’t appeal to me. However, there are a good few countries in the world that I can’t wait to visit and explore and as I love curating lists that relate to the alphabet (because clearly I’m weird like that), I thought that I’d share my ultimate A to Z country bucket list with you guys today!

This post is jam-packed full of some of the best countries in the world and I hope my ultimate country bucket list inspires you to create your own (or just copy mine!).

P.S. Of course, there’s not a country beginning with every letter of the alphabet, but it’s near enough an ‘A to Z’ country bucket list! I also haven’t listed places such as Oman and Yemen as these are the only countries beginning with those letters, but I don’t really have much of a desire to visit them!

Austria – A to Z country bucket list

Austria is a country that I’ve wanted to visit for many years now and I finally thought I’d get the chance to go in January when we’d received a weekend away to Austria as a Christmas gift from our families in order to go skiing. However, of course, the Coronavirus pandemic royally sh*tted on those plans, so it’s still somewhere that I’m desperate to visit.

Albania

Countries I’ve been to beginning with ‘A’: Australia.

Brazil

South America is somewhere that I’ve been pretty interested in ever since I did a project about it when I was in primary school. I think Brazil would be such an incredible place to visit and while it’s an absolutely bloody huge place, and you’d probably have to spend months there to even scratch the surface of the wonderful country, I am excited to head there one day (hopefully pretty soon!).

Canada

Canada is probably one of my top five desperate-to-visit-countries in the world. It seems like the most insanely beautiful place and I’ve heard nothing but good things about pretty much everywhere in Canada. I think a huge road trip across the entire country is definitely on the cards in the future!

Countries I’ve been to beginning with ‘C’: Cambodia, Czech Republic.

Denmark

If you’ve been reading my blog for a little while now, you’ll probably be aware of how much I adore city breaks and Copenhagen in Denmark is a European city break that I’ve been wanting to do for years now. Covid restrictions depending, I think I’d like to head there sometime later this year if possible.

Egypt – A to Z country bucket list

If seeing the Pyramids isn’t something on your bucket list, then are you even a traveller?! Jokes aside, I think a trip to Egypt is something I’d definitely like to do in the future. I’ve not spent much time in the Middle East and I haven’t even touched Africa at all, so I think Egypt would be a good place to start.

Finland

Ever since seeing Victoria’s photos from her trip to Lapland in Finland and hearing remarkable things about Finland and the Northern Lights from Matt’s dad, it’s somewhere that I’ve been pining to visit. I’m a huge fan of proper snowy and wintery places and I think Finland looks utterly magical; I can’t wait to head there one day, hopefully around Christmas time!

Fiji

Countries I’ve been to beginning with ‘F’: France.

Germany

It’s crazy to think that I’ve still never been to Germany, especially considering how many times Matt’s been to Germany to see his friend and the fact that I have lots of family there, you would have thought that I would have been by now! We did actually have a trip planned to Munich in August 2018 but it got cancelled due to bad weather and the fact that we couldn’t even get to the airport. I still really want to go though, and I think a specific trip to Germany to travel around the many Christmas markets across many cities would be an awesome reason to go!

Countries I’ve been to beginning with ‘G’: Greece.

Hungary

I have actually been to Hungary when I spent a weekend in Budapest for Matt’s birthday a couple of years ago, but there aren’t really any other countries beginning with the letter ‘H’ that I’m desperate to visit, but I would definitely like to head back to Hungary one day and explore more of the country.

India – A to Z country bucket list

India is a country that I’ve ummed and ahhed about for a good few years now and while I have heard incredible things about it from other travellers and backpackers, I’ve still always been a little apprehensive about how intense the culture shock would be. However, after spending lots of time in other Asian countries and falling in love with them (not to mention the fact that I now love Indian food), I’m incredibly excited to one day head to India for at least a good few weeks and explore as much as I can!

Countries I’ve been to beginning with ‘I’: Indonesia, Ireland, Iceland, Italy.

Japan

Before the world descended into chaos and everything got cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, our original travel plan for the later half of 2020 was to head to Japan for the Olympics. When those plans fell through, we were pretty gutted but my desire to visit Japan still remains strong and as my good friend Nele is obsessed with Japan, I know I can trust her opinion so I’m sure I’ll love it too!

Kenya

I know there are plenty of African countries that are perfect for embarking on otherworldly safari adventures, but I’ve heard great things about Kenya’s wildlife and a proper safari excursion is something that I’d love to do one day, particularly in Kenya.

Luxembourg

Even though Luxembourg is a teeny tiny country in Europe, surrounded by the likes of Belgium, Germany and France, it’s still somewhere that I want to go one day. I think it would be cool to head to Luxembourg as part of a European road trip and the scenery there alone is enough to tempt me into visiting!

Maldives – A to Z country bucket list

I’m not sure I know many people who wouldn’t want to visit the Maldives, so it’s probably no surprise that it features on my A to Z country bucket list. While it’s usually synonymous with being a honeymoon destination, I think I’d like to take a trip there even without it being a honeymoon occasion; those water bungalows, snorkelling opportunities and white-sand beaches are calling me!

Nepal

I remember when I was much younger reading about Nepal, the Himalayas and Mount Everest on the back of a Capri Sun carton and ever since then, I’ve been fascinated with the idea of visiting one day. While I’m pretty sure you won’t see me hiking to the summit of Everest any time soon, I’d still like to visit Nepal and perhaps see the mountain ranges up close (but not too close!).

Countries I’ve been to beginning with ‘N’: New Zealand, Norway, Netherlands.

Peru

As I mentioned above, South America is somewhere that’s been on my radar for numerous years now and I think a huge trip across the continent, Peru included, would make for a fantastic adventure. Of course, Peru is home to the magnificent Machu Picchu which is definitely somewhere I’d like to visit one day.

Countries I’ve been to beginning with ‘P’: Portugal, Philippines.

Qatar – A to Z country bucket list

Qatar is a place that seems to be gaining a bit more popularity in recent years, so while it hasn’t been on my list of places to visit for the longest time, it is somewhere that I’d certainly like to stop in during a trip to the Middle East. Just a quick Google and you can see that it somewhat resembles Dubai which is a place that I really enjoyed (although probably not quite as much as Instagram influencers seem to 👀 ).

Russia

Due to its absolute massiveness, I think you’d be hard-pressed to explore much of Russia in a pit-stop visit, so if I get the chance, I think I’d like to spend as long as possible in Russia. Of course, the populous cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg are definitely on my to-see list, but I think it would also be pretty cool to explore parts of more rural Russia too.

Switzerland

Switzerland is another country that sits at the very top of my desperate-to-visit bucket list. It looks like the most beautiful country and while I have technically been to Switzerland as I landed at Geneva airport and then drove straight to Morzine, France, I’m not sure that quite counts as a visit. Hopefully I’ll be able to embark on a proper trip there very soon.

Tanzania

After seeing one of my favourite YouTubers/Instagrammers, Sorelle, spend some time in Tanzania last year, it’s now a place that has a firm spot on my travel bucket list. Home to the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania seems like an utterly magical place to immerse yourself in some of the world’s most remarkable nature and I can’t wait to do so one day!

Uruguay – A to Z country bucket list

As part of a trip around South America, I’d love to add a stop in Uruguay to the increasingly-long list of countries to visit in the continent. Uruguay looks like an awesome country and I’m excited to one day spend some time there.

Ukraine

Countries I’ve been to beginning with ‘U’: United States of America, United Arab Emirates.

Venezuela

Yet another South American country I hear you say? I think it’s safe to say that judging by this list, I’m pretty excited to head to South America one day, and I’d love to make a stop in Venezuela as part of that trip and spend some time there.

Countries I’ve been to beginning with ‘V’: Vietnam.

Zambia – A to Z country bucket list

Zambia is another African country that I’ve heard incredible things about with regards to its impressive wildlife and nature. It’s also home to Victoria Falls which looks unbelievably beautiful and I think a trip there, as well as to one of the many safari wildlife parks is definitely on the cards in the future.
