My Year In Travel Photos (2018)

When I first thought about writing this post after seeing a few of them floating around on the internet, I was a little worried that I wouldn’t quite have enough content to fill the post.

I knew I’d travelled to a fair few places this year but it just didn’t feel as action-packed as 2017. However, upon reflection, I realise that 2018 was a year full of incredible travel adventures.

Obviously 2019 is going to be an unbelievably incredible year in terms of travel as we embark on our trip around the world in April, but before we get onto that, I wanted to reflect on my travel experiences of 2018.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

We rang in the new year of 2018 with a trip to Amsterdam. Matt had been briefly once before but it was my first time there and I absolutely fell in love with the entire city.

We were there for five days in total and we managed to do an awful lot in that time. The culture of Amsterdam can often get quite a bad rep but I adored it, and I actually had THE best kebab of my entire life while we were there (in fact, they were so good, we had them three times over the course of five days!).

Spending New Year’s Eve in Amsterdam was truly something to remember, and it’s an incredibly special memory that I’ll cherish forever. This New Year’s Eve will certainly pale into insignificance compared to last year!

Filey, UK

Our next trip of 2018 was slightly less cool than a trip to Amsterdam but it’s still one of my favourite memories of 2018.

For Matt’s birthday, we headed up to my parent’s caravan in Filey which is just a short drive from Scarborough. We spent the night there but it actually snowed a ridiculous amount and for a moment, we honestly thought we might get snowed in!

Thankfully we didn’t, but it was far too cold to head out anywhere so we lit the fire, got our comfiest and warmest clothes on, poured some prosecco and ordered a Dominos. It might not have classed as a holiday as such, but it’s definitely one of my favourite memories of 2018 that I shared with Matt.

Paris, France

My main present from Matt for Christmas 2017 was a trip to Paris in March 2018. It was a total surprise but one that I was immensely grateful for as I hadn’t been to Paris since I was incredibly young, and even then I didn’t properly explore the city of love.

We were only there for a few days but we managed to cram so much into our time there, including seeing all the beautiful sights and eating as much delicious food as possible.

Our Airbnb apartment was absolutely beautiful and we had the most lovely time exploring the city, especially as it snowed while we were there. We even managed to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day during our weekend away and while it’s not a French holiday typically, they still knew how to put on a party!

Manchester , UK

The week after we moved into our studio apartment, Matt and I headed to Manchester for an evening in The Lowry hotel. Our stay there was a sort of gift from my parents as they couldn’t go so they sent us instead and I’m so unbelievably glad that they did!

The Lowry quickly became one of my favourite hotels in the UK, with wonderful views, a truly stunning room and incredible staff and service; it’s definitely a must-visit hotel in Manchester if you’re looking for something a little more luxurious.

London , UK

My next trip in the summer was to London with my mum with Brit Movie Tours who kindly sent us on one of their rom-com movie tours around London.

It was such a beautifully sunny day and the tour itself took us to parts of London that I’d never visited before. Despite being a huge city girl, I often find myself feeling like I could take or leave London but this trip was especially lovely for me because I got to take my mum with me.

Edinburgh, Scotland

In July, I headed to Edinburgh with my little sister for a luxury stay at The Scotsman Hotel for her birthday.

The hotel was definitely one of the best places I’ve ever stayed and I absolutely adore Edinburgh anyway, so it really was the perfect summer night away.

It was also lovely to spend some quality time with my little sister as I don’t get to spend that much one on one time with her anymore.

Morzine, France

Towards the end of July I headed to the picturesque town of Morzine with my family for a mid week break which was absolutely wonderful as I hadn’t been on holiday with them for a number of years.

While Morzine is more commonly known as a winter ski resort, it’s also a perfect place to visit in the summer months if you’re a fan of outdoor sporty activities.

While we were there we went swimming, paragliding and my dad and brother even went mountain biking. It really was such a lovely couple of days and it’s definitely a place I’d love to head back to one day.

Corfu, Greece

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you might remember that back in the summer Matt and I were supposed to go to Munich at the end of July in collaboration with a hotel brand that I was going out to review.

Unfortunately, we had to cancel our trip as there was a huge storm that delayed all the trains to Manchester Airport which meant we missed our flight there. We were of course devastated, but we didn’t waste too much time before we booked another little weekend away to make up for it.

Our holiday to Corfu was incredibly short; we weren’t even there for 48 hours but we still managed to have the most amazing time.

We ate delicious food and drank (way) too much alcohol. We also enjoyed a boat party that sailed us around numerous islands which was definitely one of my favourite highlights of the entire year!

Penrith, UK

In September, my family moved up to Penrith in the Lake District which meant over the last few months I’d paid them quite a few visits.

Their house resides in the middle of the countryside with stunning views of hills and fields all around them. The house itself is also absolutely beautiful and it feels so homely and cosy which is exactly what I needed after a busy few months.

With me going full time freelance as of January, I’m planning to head up to Penrith a lot more to spend more time with my family exploring the countryside.

Prague, Czech Republic

One of my very favourite trips of 2018 was when Matt and I went to Prague for a couple of days at the beginning of November.

We found incredibly cheap flights as well as the most affordable but beautiful accommodation that I’ve ever stayed in. Our apartment in Prague was potentially my favourite place that I’d ever stayed and I’m already dreaming about going back there one day.

We managed to do so much in such a short space of time while we were there, and we had some of the best food I’ve ever eaten on our trip. I really couldn’t recommend a trip to Prague enough, and I know for certain that I’ll be going back one day as it’s just too good to visit once!

Edinburgh, Scotland

A couple of weeks after Prague, Matt and I headed to Edinburgh for my second trip to the Scottish capital this year.

The main purpose of our trip was actually to get tattoos from a world-famous tattoo artist who was hosting a workshop there for a couple of days.

We didn’t spend too much time exploring Edinburgh, but we did have a wander up to the castle, and we also stayed in the cutest little hotel right in the centre of the city. Edinburgh is definitely one of my favourite places in the UK.

New York City, USA

My last (and arguably the best) trip of 2018 was to New York City with my mum and little sister at the beginning of December.

It was my fourth time in my favourite place in the world and even though we were only there for 3 days, we still managed to walk over 80,000 steps!

New York (in particular Manhattan) holds an incredibly special place in my heart and it’s a place that I never tire of, no matter how many times I visit. There really is no other feeling like seeing the skyline for the first time and feeling your entire body light up with happiness.

It’s a place that I know I’ll be able to visit for the rest of my life without ever getting bored, and I’m already dreaming about my next trip to the Big Apple.

As I’m sure you can see, 2018 was such a wonderful year for travel opportunities, and while it’s not as good as 2019 is set to be, it was still a pretty epic year in terms of travelling!
