Despite pretty much living in hostels, hotels and campsites for nearly a year while travelling, a night (or two or 200…) away in a hotel is one of my absolute favourite things to do.
I’ve always been obsessed with staying in hotels; they don’t even have to be particularly fancy either, I just love the thrill of staying somewhere new, whether it’s a grand penthouse suite apartment, or a tiny room in a hostel.
When you add together my adoration of staying in hotels and one of my favourite cities in the UK, you’ve got a recipe for a very happy Chloe.
With that in mind, I’ve compiled a list of some of the best places to stay in Edinburgh for every budget. While this list isn’t quite as comprehensive as it could be, I’ve made a good start on the best accommodation options in Edinburgh for cheap, mid-range and luxury budgets!
Budget places to stay in Edinburgh
While Edinburgh is a relatively expensive city, those travelling on a budget will be delighted to know that there are still plenty of purse-friendly accommodation options to take advantage of in Edinburgh.
I’ve only had the chance to stay at one “official” budget place in Edinburgh so far (unless you count 28 York Place but they’re currently closed temporarily so I haven’t properly included them in this post), but the hostel we did stay at was undoubtedly one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at.

Safestay Edinburgh Hostel
Only a few weeks ago, Matt and I stayed at the Safestay Edinburgh Hostel when we spent two days in the city as part of our AtoZ UK road trip.
We’d stayed at the Safestay York branch a few weeks prior, so we thought we knew what to expect, but the beauty of Safestay Hostels is that while they do have a fairly similar theme running throughout, they’re also all unique.
The Safestay Edinburgh Hostel is a fantastic budget accommodation option in Edinburgh. Not only is it incredibly reasonable priced, but there are also tonnes of rooms available to suit your travel needs and budgets.
It’s also in a fab city centre location, with close proximity to the Castle, the Royal Mile and Princes Street Gardens, just to name a few.

Booking.comMid-range places to stay in Edinburgh
There are plenty of mid-range hotels to choose from in Edinburgh; these places are perfect for a couples’ night away, or even for a group of friends on a hen party or birthday weekend in the city.
The Raeburn
I stayed at The Raeburn all the way back in 2014 so unfortunately I don’t have any good pictures of it (16 year old me wasn’t quite into photography just yet), hence the image above taken from their Booking.com listing.
However, despite my lack of photography skills back in the day, I do remember The Raeburn being an absolutely wonderful place to stay. We were there for a family friend’s wedding and it provided the most beautiful setting to watch the happy couple get married.
The rooms are incredibly idyllic, complete with lovely bathrooms, and the breakfast is also truly divine.
The only slight qualm I’d have to say about The Raeburn is that it’s located in Stockbridge so it’s a good 25-minute walk into the city centre. If you’re looking for a quieter break in Edinburgh and don’t mind a long mooch into town, then this isn’t really an issue, but if you’re wanting to stay right in the heart of the action of the city, then it’s probably not the best place for you.

Booking.comRadisson Blu City Centre
Radisson Blu Hotels are always some of my favourites and Edinburgh’s city centre version is no exception.
It’s one of the highest rated hotels in Edinburgh on Booking.com and as it’s so conveniently located along the Royal Mile, just 10 minutes from the Castle, you couldn’t really ask for a better location.
I also adore how it looks somewhat like a castle, especially with the “turret” on the corner. Inside the hotel, you’ll find a swanky reception area, a huge indoor swimming pool, plus stunning rooms decked out in grey and white decor.
I think the Radisson Blu Edinburgh Hotel is the perfect mid-range accommodation option in the city if you’re looking for a fancy night away, without breaking the bank.

Booking.comLuxury places to stay in Edinburgh
As I’m not *quite* made of money, I haven’t had the chance to check out all of Edinburgh’s top luxury hotels.
However, a couple of years ago I was incredibly lucky to stay at The Scotsman Hotel with my little sister. My mum and dad were due to stay there for the weekend but they couldn’t make it, so my sister and I (very graciously) offered to step in and take their place…
The Scotsman Hotel
The Scotsman Hotel is arguably the most luxurious and lavish place I’ve ever stayed. Not only is the hotel itself unbelievably grand, but we actually stayed in The Penthouse Suite (which has been redecorated since we stayed there).
Spread across two floors and connected by a sweeping, spiral staircase, this “room” (AKA the biggest understatement of the year) is so beyond luxe and grand; it simply oozes sophistication.
Thankfully, there are slightly more affordable rooms available than just the Penthouse, but all rooms are still remarkably lavish and insanely beautiful. The food served at the hotel is also wonderful and as it’s situated pretty much adjacent to the train station, it’s in a great central location for getting out and about in Edinburgh.

I hope you’ve found some inspiration of the best places to stay in Edinburgh throughout this post! I really can’t recommend the hostels and hotels listed in this post enough and just writing about them has already made me want to go back for another visit!
