Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong, an IHG Hotel

Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong is located in the culturally-rich Katong-Joo Chiat neighbourhood, which also happens to be Singapore’s first Heritage Town! The hotel itself is home to 451 rooms, set across 16 floors, with many rooms (including the one we stayed in on the 14th floor!) offering incredible views of the surrounding area.

It’s just a 15-minute drive from Changi Airport to Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong, and the nearest MRT is Marine Parade, which is less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel, so it’s super easy and convenient to get around Singapore using the MRT.

As I mentioned above, there are 451 19sqm rooms at the hotel, all of which come with either a queen-sized bed or two single beds, air-conditioning, free WiFi, a desk/chair area, filtered drinking water system, flat screen TV, and tea and coffee making facilities.

Standard Queen Room

We stayed in a standard queen room on the 14th floor, and the first thing I noticed when we walked into the room was the magnificent city view sprawling out in front of us! The view was definitely such a welcome bonus, and almost every single room at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong boasts either a city view or sea view, especially if you book a high floor room.

The room itself is equipped with all the features and amenities included in every room at the hotel, including a super comfortable queen-sized bed, and a dedicated workspace area, which is always a huge bonus for us while travelling and working remotely!

There’s also a mini fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, and a filtered water system in the bathroom, as well as a spacious shower, complete with complimentary toiletries.

Amenities at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong

While many more affordable hotel chains don’t usually offer guests any extra features or amenities apart from the typical room facilities, Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong goes above and beyond for their guests and boasts numerous extra facilities and services, including free breakfast as standard, a 24-hour gym, and dedicated working areas.

Free breakfast at The Great Room

I absolutely love a good hotel breakfast, and upon checking into the hotel, we were delighted to discover that every booking includes free breakfast for every guest! You can enjoy the choice of the halal-certified “Express Start™ Breakfast” buffet spread, which includes a vast variety of options, including Asian and International options, as well as a Grab and Go option from the hotel lobby.

Breakfast is served from 6.30 AM to 10.30 AM at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong, and I love that it’s available for four hours, as it gets super busy every morning with hotel guests, so having the option to go down for breakfast over the course of four hours was very much appreciated.

Vending machine and The Great Bar

As well as breakfast served in The Great Room, you can also take advantage of a light bites and drinks menu at The Great Bar, located just next to the reception desk on the 7th floor of the hotel.

There’s also an IJOOZ vending machine where you can get delicious fresh orange juice for as little as $2 SGD! We had the freshly squeezed orange juice three times during our 2-night stay because it really is that good!

24-hour Fitness Centre

Another feature that I love about the hotel is the 24/7 fitness centre which is a fully-equipped gym featuring free weights, treadmills, rowing machines, elliptical trainers, and a bicycle machine.

It’s not the biggest gym in the world, but it serves its job very well and I was very happy to see so many different fitness machines.

Dedicated work areas

Located directly adjacent to The Great Room, there are also several tables dedicated to workspaces, which we were very happy to discover as it made it much easier for us to get some work done during our stay at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong, without having to find a nearby coffee shop to work from.

Outdoor dining/seating area

One of my favourite parts of the hotel is the outdoor patio area on the 7th floor, just next to The Great Bar and reception area. This expansive outdoor seating area comprises at least a dozen tables and chairs and is a lovely little sun trap in the middle of the day! There’s also a mini bar area called Bar On 7, which is perfect for an afternoon cocktail or an evening nightcap as you unwind in the lovely patio area.
