Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in Asia, especially when it comes to accommodation, so finding an affordable place to stay is no easy feat. Thankfully, I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels in Singapore, and I’m happy to report that there are a few affordable hotel options that offer comfort, cleanliness, and convenience, without breaking the bank!
One of those hotels is the Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay, located in one of my favourite areas of Singapore.
My review of Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay below includes everything you need to know!
Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay by IHG

Located just a few minutes’ walk from the vibrant and bustling area of Clarke Quay, Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay is one of my go-to hotels in Singapore thanks to its awesome location, super comfy beds, impressive rooftop pool, and incredible views of Clarke Quay and Marina Bay Sands!
It’s less than a 10-minute walk to both Clarke Quay and Fort Canning MRT Stations, so you can easily get around the city, and it’s also within walking distance to Clarke Quay itself, as well as Robertson Quay, the Singapore River, Fort Canning Park, and Chinatown.
It’s also a 30-minute drive (or a one-hour MRT journey) from Singapore Changi Airport.
Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay address: 2 Magazine Road Singapore 059573.
Rooms at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay

There are 442 stylish and modern rooms at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay, all with floor-to-ceiling windows, many of which boast awesome views of the city (providing that you book an MBS View room and not a Courtyard View room).
All rooms are 18-square metres as standard, and you can opt for a standard queen room or a room with two single beds. All rooms come equipped with a Free Express Start Breakfast, free WiFi, walk-in rain shower, wall-mounted TV, mini fridge, iron/ironing board, filtered water tap, complimentary toiletries, air-conditioning, a safe, tea and coffee making facilities, and more.

We stayed in a Standard Queen MBS View room, which did indeed boast a floor-to-ceiling window with a brilliant view of Marina Bay Sands, as well as the nearby cityscape!
The queen-sized bed was super comfortable, and I love how Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay offer both a firm and soft pillow on each side of the bed, so you can choose which pillow best suits your sleep style!
The in-room features such as tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a mini fridge and filtered drinking water were very much appreciated, and we were also grateful for the in-room desk and chair as it meant that we could get some work done on an evening after exploring the city.

The bathrooms at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay are equipped with a walk-in rain shower, as well as an adjustable shower head, plus our bathroom had complimentary Dove shampoo, body wash, and hand soap, which is always a welcome relief when we’re travelling full-time as it means we don’t have to carry around huge toiletries with us.
The filtered drinking water tap in the bathroom is also an excellent feature, and it’s just one way in which Holiday Inn Express are working towards reducing the use of single-use plastic!
Amenities and facilities at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay

As you can already tell from this Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay review, there are a number of reasons why I absolutely loved our stay at this incredible hotel, but the extra facilities and amenities made me love it even more!
Here’s what else you can expect from a stay at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay.
Rooftop pool & garden

On the 8th floor of Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay, you’ll find a 40-metre long rooftop pool which is one of the most unique hotel pools I’ve seen! With incredible city views, and ample swimming space, as well as tonnes of sun loungers on the surrounding deck area, this is by far the coolest feature of the hotel. There’s also a jacuzzi directly adjacent to the pool, which makes for an idyllic spot to relax in after a busy day of exploring the city.

In addition to the huge rooftop pool, there’s also an entire rooftop garden terrace, complete with table and chairs, sun loungers, gorgeous greenery, and amazing views of the city.
This little rooftop oasis is such a lovely part of the hotel, and even if you don’t intend to go swimming during your stay, it’s still worth heading up there to enjoy the views.
FREE Express Start Breakfast

Another feature that I love about Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay is that every guest can enjoy a complimentary free Express Start Breakfast with every stay!
Oftentimes, I’ve found that if a hotel offers free breakfast as standard, the options are pretty limited and not very good, but the buffet breakfast at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay was absolutely fantastic and there was so much to choose from!
From freshly-baked pastries to international breakfast dishes to more local cuisines, salads, fresh fruit, yoghurts, as well as fruit juices, tea, and coffee, there’s so much variety on offer!
Dining at the Great Room & Bar

The Express Start Breakfast at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay is actually located in the Great Room of the hotel, which is directly adjacent to the hotel lobby on the ground floor as you enter the property, but the Great Room also doubles up as an after-breakfast dining area where guests can order drinks and light snacks from the Great Room Bar menu.
I spent a few hours working from the Great Room during our stay at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay, and I was very kindly treated to a few light bites while I worked. I ordered the fries and spicy popcorn chicken, and it was honestly such a great little mid-afternoon treat; the popcorn chicken in particular was truly scrumptious!
Yet another awesome feature of the Great Room Bar is that they offer a daily happy hour deal from 5 PM to 8 PM where you can get select beer and wine for just $12 SGD!
24/7 Fitness Centre

The 24/7 fitness centre is another excellent feature of Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay as it means you can get a workout in early in the morning or later in the evening without worrying about the intense mid-afternoon heat in Singapore!
The Holiday Inn Clarke Quay gym, also located on the hotel’s rooftop, is equipped with numerous treadmills, elliptical machine, free weights, benches, and more.
