adventurous date ideas

When you’re in a long-term relationship, date night can often become a little “samey”, so to ensure that you keep the spark alive, I’ve compiled a list of 50+ best adventurous date ideas so that you have plenty of date ideas to choose from when you’re lacking inspiration.

Whether you’re looking for the best adventurous date ideas in the UK or you want to set your dating sights further afield, I’ve got you covered in my comprehensive list of the best adventure date ideas that will suit every couple and every budget!

1. Skydiving – adventure date ideas for couples

Skydiving is an activity that I’m still yet to participate in and while the very thought of it absolutely terrifies me, I also think it would be an incredibly cool thing to do, especially as part of a date.

There are so many places that I’d love to go skydiving, including Australia’s Gold Coast, Queenstown in NZ and maybe Dubai too! However, I would also happily do it somewhere in the UK for a fun, more local date idea!

2. Bungy jumping

bungy jump rotorua velocity valley New Zealand

Following on from the adventurous date idea above, bungy jumping is another great idea if you’re looking to add a bit of excitement to your date!

Matt and I were lucky enough to go bungy jumping at Velocity Valley in New Zealand and while it was almost unbearably terrifying, it was also remarkable and such an amazing adrenaline rush!

Bungy jumping is undoubtedly one of the best adventure ideas for couples and while you might not be able to jump at the exact same time, I promise you it’s so much fun watching each other complete the challenge!

3. White water rafting

If you’re looking to incorporate some serious thrills into your date activities then you’ve got to give white water rafting a try.

Not only will you get the chance to see how well your partner copes under pressure and thrilling excitement, but it’ll also test your own boundaries too and push your limits! White water rafting isn’t an activity for the faint-hearted and it’s certainly one of the wildest date ideas on this list!

4. Theme park

lightwater valley theme park

Theme park dates are some of my very favourites because they involve a full day out, full of fun and adventurous activities.

Rollercoaster fans are sure to love a date at a theme park; bonus points if you can make it into a little weekend break away and enjoy the rides for a good few days!

5. Mini golf – adventure date ideas

While mini golf might not be “out there” when it comes to date ideas, it’s still a pretty cool and unique thing to enjoy as a couple.

Even if neither of you is very good at it, it’ll still be fun to watch each other attempt to beat the other at the silly game.

6. Kayaking

Another fun water-based date idea is kayaking and I think this is such a cool idea, especially if you like working as a team or better yet, you could have individual kayaks and race your partner on the water!

7. Paintballing

One great alternative date idea is to go paintballing. This could be such a fun couples group activity where you could go in teams of boys vs girls, or just with your partner and enjoy a few hours of competitive fun!

8. Laser tag – romantic adventurous date ideas

Laser tag is another adventurous date idea that can be enjoyed in locations all over the world.

It can be such a comical way to show your competitive side to your partner while still having lots of fun together!

9. Hot air balloon ride

adventurous date ideas hot air balloon

A hot air balloon ride, preferably at sunrise or sunset, is undoubtedly one of the most romantic date ideas to enjoy as a couple.

Of course, there are some incredible places in the world to enjoy a hot air balloon experience such as Cappadocia, but I think a hot air balloon ride over somewhere beautiful in your home country would be just as magical.

10. Rock climbing

If you’re looking to build your fitness levels as a couple as well as enjoy something adventurous together, then rock climbing is always a great idea.

You could go all out and book a proper rock climbing experience with professionals, or you could just give it a quick go at a local rock climbing centre to see if you enjoy it first.

11. Ziplining – fun adventure date ideas

Ziplining is such a fun activity regardless of who you’re with, but it’s definitely one of my favourite adventurous date activities to enjoy with Matt.

I’ve been zip lining in many places around the world now, including New Zealand and Vietnam, as well as numerous places in the UK and it’s always such a thrill!

12. Helicopter ride

If you’re really wanting to splash out on your date, then a helicopter ride is a surefire way to impress your partner!

I’m still yet to experience a helicopter ride, but I have the Grand Canyon, the Great Barrier Reef and the views over New York City on my helicopter ride bucket list.

13. Shooting range

adventurous date ideas

Even though I’ve been to a shooting range in both Budapest and Vietnam and I enjoyed the experience, I’m still not 100% sold on the idea of it and so I think it’s a really personal choice as to whether you’d enjoy a date at a shooting range.

It can definitely be a thrilling activity to partake in together, especially if you make it a competition, but I do think that you need to be sure that your partner will enjoy it before you book it as an experience.

14. Karaoke bar

This is probably one of the very few dates on this list that I’m not sure I’ll ever actually want to do myself and that’s because I’m a terrible singer and I hate performing in front of people!

However, a date night at a karaoke bar is undeniably fun, especially if you’re a few pints deep and you get to see your partner embarrass themself.

15. Quad biking – adventure date ideas

Quad biking is yet another incredibly fun date idea to enjoy as a couple. If you’re not afraid to get a little muddy and test your driving skills in front of your partner, then head off on a quad biking adventure and put your biking skills to the test!

16. Stargazing

Where to go stargazing in South Island New Zealand

While stargazing might be one of the slightly tamer adventurous date ideas in this post, it’s still one of my very favourite things to do with Matt.

In fact, one of the most magical and memorable experiences of my life is when we accidentally went stargazing in New Zealand when we were travelling in a campervan and it’s something I’ll never forget. If you want to get extra romantic brownie points with your partner, a night of stargazing is a surefire way to gain them!

17. Road trip – adventurous things for couples to do

Road trips are another one of my favourite things to do at almost any time and with anyone, but if you can find yourself an excellent road trip partner, you’re sure to have such an incredible experience.

The best thing about this adventurous date idea is that you could literally go on a road trip for food in the next city, or you could embark on a huge cross-country excursion.

18. Rollerblading

Rollerblading might not be quite as adventurous as climbing a mountain or jumping out of a plane for example, but that doesn’t mean to say that it’s not incredibly fun and cool, especially as a cute date idea.

19. Climb a mountain

adventurous date ideas

Now, I’m not saying that you have to head off to Mount Kilimanjaro or Mount Everest to partake in this activity; climbing a mountain could just mean hiking your local “big hill” together.

Matt and I have climbed a few mountains together in our time, but probably not as many as I’d quite like so I definitely want to prioritise this adventure date idea in the future.

20. Food tour – adventurous date ideas

Going on a food tour with your partner is a great way to try out lots of different cuisines and find your new favourite dish to eat together. Matt and I have been on a fair few food tours around the world and they’re always so enjoyable as a date activity.

21. Ice skating

Similarly to rollerblading, ice skating is another fun and adventurous date to enjoy as a couple. Even if you’re not particularly gifted on the ice, it’s still so much fun, especially watching your partner hobble around the rink!

22. Jet skiing

I’ve still never been jet skiing but I imagine that it’s one of the most exciting and thrilling adventure date ideas on this post! Jet skiing would be cool no matter where you do it, but bonus points if you can do it in a hot country, followed by a lovely relaxing evening on the beach.

23. Festival – adventurous date ideas

A festival is always a good idea for a date; whether it’s just an afternoon at a mini-festival in the park, or you go all out and attend a week-long festival!

24. Paragliding

adventurous date ideas paragliding

I went paragliding in Morzine and even though it wasn’t actually with Matt (I was there on holiday with my family), it was still so much fun. Paragliding is such a fun activity to enjoy together and even though you won’t exactly be right next to each other, it’ll still be so cool to see each other soaring through the air.

25. Trampolining

Trampolining is a great activity that can be enjoyed both indoors or outside, depending on where you live and the facilities available to you. Not only is it a great source of exercise, but it’s also so much fun and the perfect chance to be a big kid again.

26. Ghost tour – adventurous date ideas

While a ghost tour isn’t actually an adventure per se, it’s still an amusing activity to enjoy as a couple. In my hometown of York, there are always ghost walks and tours that you can take around the city and it can be a great way to enjoy a bit of history while taking part in an alternative date night.

27. Wild camping

One of my favourite parts of travelling the world was when Matt and I were living in a campervan in both New Zealand and Australia and while we cheated somewhat by not actually sleeping in a tent, wild camping in the van was still one of the best experiences of my life and something that I can’t wait to do all over again.

28. Scuba diving

Scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef

Our time scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia was one of the scariest, albeit most thrilling things I’ve ever done and I can’t recommend scuba diving as a date activity enough. It’s certainly not the cheapest way to enjoy a date night, but it’s sure to create some truly incredible memories as a couple.

29. Skiing – adventurous date ideas

Matt and I were actually supposed to go skiing in January in Austria but because of You Know What, that trip was understandably cancelled. However, I’m so excited to enjoy a ‘date’ on the slopes once we’ve both had plenty of practice and we’re able to race each other to the bottom (safely, of course!).

30. Couples games night

adventurous date ideas games night

A couples games night might not exactly be the most adventurous idea in the world, but it’s a great way to inject some fun and excitement into your relationship, especially if you can get a few couples to join in and make it a real competition.

31. Cliff jumping

Cliff jumping is still not something that I’m entirely sold on, but I think if I could pluck up the courage to do it, then it would be such an amazing way to spend an afternoon with Matt.

32. Murder mystery

A murder mystery is another fab date idea that can be enjoyed as just a couple, or with other couples too to make it even more fun and interesting. It’s the perfect excuse to dress up and be silly for an evening and it’s so different from how you’d usually spend your Saturday night (or at least I imagine so!).

33. Ice bar – adventurous date ideas

A date at an ice bar is of course dependent on where you live and your ability to visit one, but if you do happen to be somewhere that has an ice bar, I’d definitely recommend heading there with your date for an alternative night of drinking.

34. Watch a sports event

aussie rules

Watching a sports event is an awesome way to enjoy a date together, whether it’s just watching your local football team or you attend a sports event that you never normally would. Matt and I went to an Aussie Rules match in Melbourne and even though I had no idea what was going on, it was still so much fun.

35. Horse riding

Horse riding could be a hilarious activity to enjoy on a date, especially if neither of you has ever been horse riding before. It’s a great first date idea because it’s so unusual and even if you’re not very good at it, I’m sure it’ll make for plenty of laughs!

36. Seaside arcade

While simply just visiting the seaside and going on the arcades isn’t all that adventurous, the spontaneity of the activity is what would make this really fun and exciting.

Pack up the car with plenty of snacks and 2ps and head to the arcades at your local seaside for an afternoon of trying (and inevitably failing!) to win a prize on the grabber and slot machines!

37. Hot pools – adventure date ideas

Visiting hot pools isn’t a regular occurrence for many people, especially for those of us who live in the UK, but if you do get the chance to visit somewhere with awesome thermal pools, then definitely make a day of it and enjoy luxuriating in the hot water with your partner.

38. Skinny dipping

Skinny dipping certainly isn’t something for everyone but if you’re feeling particularly adventurous then this can be a great thing to do as a couple, providing that you’re not going to give everyone a show!

If you’re looking for adventurous things for couples to do and you want to test both your personal boundaries and your intimacy as a couple, skinny dipping is definitely a fun and adventurous date idea that you should consider.

39. Escape room

Once things start to open back up here in the UK after Covid-19, I definitely want to head to an escape room with Matt and maybe a few friends as I’ve never done it before but I imagine that it’s so much fun trying to work as a team to ‘escape’!

40. Visit a waterfall

visit a waterfall adventurous date ideas

A date at a waterfall is probably one of the most romantic things on this date ideas post and whether it’s a magnificent waterfall in Bali or one just up the road from you in the UK, visiting a waterfall as a couple is a surefire way to score partner points!

41. Waterpark – adventurous date ideas

Waterpark dates are always so much fun as it gives you the perfect opportunity to act like kids again and rekindle a sense of freedom and fun that you don’t get to experience too often in a serious, adult relationship.

42. Wine tasting

Wine tasting is arguably one of the more sophisticated date ideas in this post, but it’s still one that can be a great adventure. Whether you head to a mega posh vineyard in a stunning country, or you order lots of wine from all over the world online and create your own wine-tasting experience at home, you’re sure to have a merry time!

43. Run a marathon

This is one activity you’re not likely to see me participating in any time soon, but I’d like to think that I’ll work up the courage (and fitness levels!) to run a marathon one day, preferably alongside Matt for moral support! If you’re a sporty couple, then running a marathon together could be a great way to bring you closer together.

44. Concert

adventurous date ideas

Attending concerts with Matt is always one of my favourite things to do as he’s such a fun concert partner, so I have no doubt that a date night at a concert would be a fantastic date idea for almost any couple.

45. Caving – adventurous date ideas

One date idea that’s sure to be challenging but incredibly rewarding is caving. You’ll get to test your survival skills and work as a couple which is always a lovely thing to do.

46. Mountain biking

Another adventurous date idea that combines both adrenaline and challenge is mountain biking. Whether your partner is an avid mountain biker and wants you to join them, or you’re both beginners, it can be an awesome way to spend an afternoon getting muddy and enjoying the thrill of flying down a mountainside!

47. Go karting

Competitive couples will definitely enjoy an afternoon of go-karting, especially if you can go on opposite teams and try and beat each other.

48. Axe throwing

Matt’s been axe throwing with his dad before and I know how much he enjoyed it, so I’d definitely love to go with him when it’s open again so that we can enjoy it together.

49. Footgolf – adventure date ideas

Footgolf is another thing that Matt loves to do and I bet many couples would enjoy doing this together, even if you’re not particularly sporty. It’s a great excuse to get some fresh air in the sunshine, accompanied by a few beers and wonderful company.

50. Canyoneering

Matt and I were supposed to go canyoneering when we were in Moalboal in the Philippines but we didn’t quite manage it as I was feeling so unwell. It’s definitely something I’d love to do at some point though and I think it would be such a fun date idea!

I really hope this post has given you plenty of inspiration for fun, unusual and adventurous date ideas to enjoy with your partner!
