Whenever I check my Google Analytics to see which blog posts you guys seem to love the most, it always surprises me that my date night idea posts are always the best performing ones. While I would never consider myself to be a ‘relationship blogger‘, I do have to admit that these kinds of posts are some of my favourites to write.
I’ve written a number of romantic date idea type posts in the past and they’re always very well received so I wanted to put together another one, only with a slightly different flavour this time. With saving for travelling next year, Matt and I are really trying to cut back on our spending in order to save as much money as possible.
However, we’re both still huge fans of date night, and try and do something specifically date night orientated at least once a month. With that in mind, I’ve put together 16 affordable date night ideas that you can try for yourself!
Have a movie or series marathon
Watching a couple of episodes of our favourite TV shows is one of mine and Matt’s favourite things to do anyway, but it seems to be even more enjoyable when we dedicate a whole entire afternoon/day to it.
Matt often works at least one day on a weekend so on the rare occasion that both of us are entirely free for the whole day, we’ll bring a blanket, some drinks and snacks to the sofa and dedicate the whole day to binge-watching stuff on Netflix.
Whether it’s a movie day of films you’ve never seen before, or you decide to re-watch your favourite TV shows, one of my favourite affordable date night ideas is definitely indulging in a movie or series marathon!
Go for a long walk through town/around your village/in the countryside
Regardless of the time of year, a long walk with your beau that you met on one of the best senior dating sites can be a great way to get to know your partner even better. Whether you take a long stroll in spring, just as the flowers are starting to bloom, or you enjoy a walk in the snow-covered woods during winter, a long walk is an idyllic date idea for everyone.
A long walk through the city centre or just around the block is one of the best affordable date night ideas. It won’t cost you a thing, and you can wrap up warm (depending on the time of year) and head out and take plenty of wonderful Instagrammable pictures together!
I never used to be that bothered about cooking, or even too fussed about food for that matter, but in recent months I’ve learned to love cooking. Most Sundays, Matt and I will spend a few hours meal prepping our lunches for the week ahead; it’s a great way to spend time together on the cheap, and it also means we’re fully prepared for the week ahead!
You don’t have to be too extravagant with your cooking either; simply organise a date with someone from Suffolk dating and get cooking up a storm in the kitchen! Cooking together can be incredibly romantic and affordable; you don’t have to spend a small fortune on ingredients in order to make a delicious meal together.
Take a nap
Taking a nap can basically be done at any time, anywhere, with anyone (within reason…). It’s also one of my very favourite things to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and if you can incorporate it into your date, then even better!
If you’ve had a particularly trying week and you’re absolutely exhausted and trying to save money, then taking a nap can be one of the best affordable date night ideas for you. You won’t have to spend a single penny and you’ll be able to cosy up with your loved one on the sofa or in bed, and indulge in some much needed shut-eye.
Indulge in an at-home spa evening
Creating an at-home spa evening can be one of the most fun and affordable date night ideas to enjoy with your partner. You don’t have to spend a lot of money buying expensive products either; simply pop to Boots and make the most of the 3 for 2 offers on various skincare items, pick up a few face masks and get to work!
You could even enjoy a bath together if you’re feeling particularly cheeky, and you could even indulge in a glass or two of wine while you’re at it! Matt and I haven’t had an at-home spa evening in ages so I think we’re well overdue one!
Play games and drink cheap wine
We’ll grab a couple of drinks, a fancy pack of cards and head to the dining table/outside table/balcony of our hotel and spend hours competing against each other at cards! You may also want to grab a few board games and spend an afternoon seeing who’s the best at which game. Playing games together is a great affordable date night idea and allows you to really see the competitive streak in each other!
Invite other couples round for a dinner party
If you really want to try and keep the costs of date night to a minimum, then you should consider hosting and/or attending a couple’s dinner party. Bring your partner from Senior dating along and chat to your guests over cheese, nibbles and a bottle of wine.
You could even make it a sort of ‘Come Dine With Me’ type event, in which each couple takes it in turn to host the dinner party! That way, you’ll get to spend quality time with your SO, but you’ll also get to enjoy yummy food and see your friends too.
Pull an all nighter and watch the sunrise
This is actually one thing that Matt and I are yet to do, (we’re old AF basically and can’t stay up past 11pm most nights…) but it is something that’s definitely on my bucket list.
Whether you watch movies all night, stay up playing games or even just chatting for hours on end, pulling an all nighter can be one of the most fun (albeit slightly tiring) affordable date night ideas.
Go on a road trip with no particular destination
Matt and I unfortunately don’t have our cars anymore since we moved into the centre of York and no longer needed them; however, I’m still determined to go on a road trip together one day.
We’re actually planning to do a lot of road trips when we go travelling but you can just as easily do it in your hometown; just grab your car keys, pack some snacks and take to the road with no particular destination in mind!
Plan your future and talk about your hopes and dreams
This can be something that’s a little tricky to do if you haven’t been together very long, but if you feel like you’ve finally found your soulmate on Cambridgeshire dating then it could be the perfect date night idea to discuss your future.
One of my favourite things to do with Matt is to talk about our travel plans and what we want from our future and it’s so lovely to be on the same wavelength about your hopes and dreams.
Take a walk in a park and have an Instagram photo session
In my recent quest to become more confident in front of the camera, I’ve started branching out my Instagram content a bit more in order to introduce myself in my pictures more. Matt’s been an absolute gem with helping me out with this and it’s such a cute date night idea to do together.
Grab your camera, head to your local park and start snapping away. It’s also a great way to preserve your memories together and you can make a scrapbook of all your favourite pics!
Go to a food festival and try out new foods
You all know about my adoration for food by now so obviously one of my favourite date activities is going to a food festival. Try out new foods and sample some delicious wines and ciders at your local food festival with your beau from Hampshire dating.
It can also be a great way to get to know each other even better and treat each other to some decadent treats!
Build a fort and have an indoor picnic
With the weather becoming increasingly more autumnal, there’s literally nothing better than making an indoor fort and setting yourself up with Netflix, snacks and lots of blankets and fairy lights for the whole day.
This is such a cheap but incredibly cute and cosy date night idea that you can enjoy at any age. I can’t wait for an entire weekend spent with Matt in front of the tele in a makeshift den.
Plan your next holiday
You all know by now just how much I adore planning and booking holidays, but it’s even more fun to do with your SO.
Matt and I can literally spend hours researching different holiday destinations and planning our trip around the world. Even if you don’t actually book to go anywhere, just the process of planning a trip is incredibly romantic and lovely.
Play old video games
If you really want to go old school for your date night, then head down to your local game store or charity shop and pick up an old video game. We bought a Game Cube a couple of months ago and have spent hours playing Mario Kart and racing games.
It’s such a simple but remarkably effective way to spend time together and you can play for hours on end, competing against each other to see who the true champion is!
Go and watch the sunset
Sunset is definitely one of my absolute favourite times of day, and there’s really nothing more romantic than heading up to a hill with your partner and enjoy watching the sun go down.
