Staying in beautiful hotels all around the world is truly one of my favourite parts of my job as a travel writer, and on my third trip to Portugal, I was lucky enough to stay at W Algarve, just a 10-minute drive from the heart of Albufeira.
The hotel is truly exceptional, combining the perfect blend of elegance and luxury with a warm and personal greeting from every single staff member. If you’re looking for an incredible place to stay in the Algarve, keep reading my review of W Algarve below!

W Algarve Hotel review
Located on the very southern coast of Portugal, W Algarve is an exceptional Marriott Bonvoy property, and it’s just a 45-minute drive from Faro International Airport, making it a fantastic place to base yourself while exploring the Algarve region.
There’s also complimentary on-site parking at the hotel, so if you’re hiring a car in the Algarve (which I highly recommend you do in order to see and do as much as possible!), you can easily and conveniently park right at the hotel.
Upon checking into the W Algarve, I was blown away by the attention to detail, both from the hotel itself and from the staff. We were very kindly treated to a glass of sparkling wine while we waited to check in, and the staff could not have been more welcoming or accommodating.
As I was staying at the W Algarve on a press trip with Jet2, there were seven of us in total, and the check-in process was quick and easy, and soon we were heading off to explore our rooms.

Guest rooms, suites, and residences at W Algarve
There are 134 rooms and suites at W Algarve, all with private balconies accompanied by spectacular pool and ocean views, as well as ten premium rooms, known as “W Suites”, which all have their own private rooftop terrace.
There are also 83 luxury “residences” at the hotel, which feature 1, 2, 3, and even 4 bedroom luxury apartments, perfect for families or larger groups who want to stay together.
Checking into my room at W Algarve, I audibly gasped when I saw how big and beautiful it was; as I mentioned above, I’ve been lucky to stay in some truly stunning properties in my time, but my room at the W Algarve might have just been one of the best so far!
The enormous bed is probably one of the comfiest I’ve ever slept in, and I absolutely loved the gorgeous living room area, which featured a sofa, coffee table, egg chair, and even a mini cocktail bar and coffee station!
The pictures above really don’t do the room justice; it was so beautifully decorated and so huge! It would be perfect for a couple on a romantic weekend break in the Algarve, but you could also share with a friend and you’d still feel like you had plenty of space!
The bathroom is also stunning, with two sinks (a feature that I absolutely love in any bathroom!), plus a separate shower and toilet, which is great for privacy if you’re sharing with another person. There was also a designated dressing table area with a stool which was so perfect for getting ready!
Arguably my favourite part of the room was the sizeable balcony that overlooked the hotel’s pool and outdoor wet deck, as well as a glimpse of the ocean! It was so peaceful sitting out on the balcony with a cup of tea on a morning and listening to the sounds of nature; I could have happily stayed there for hours!
Dining facilities
While I always love to get out of the hotel and explore the local culinary scene whenever I’m in a new destination, I do always enjoy the convenience of having dining facilities at the hotel in the event that I don’t want to venture too far out.
Amazingly, W Algarve has a whopping six dining spots throughout the hotel, including the amazing Market Kitchen breakfast spot, an incredible gastronomic wine bar known as VINO, the gorgeous Italian space known as Paper Moon, and more!

One of my favourite things about a hotel stay is experiencing the breakfast, and thankfully, the breakfast selection at the Market Kitchen at W Algarve was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time!
The choice of food was huge, with an entire hot buffet, pastries, fresh fruit, cold cuts, cheese, cereal, yoghurt, and more. There is also an à la carte menu where you can order fresh and made-to-order dishes, such as French toast, eggs benedict, and pancakes.
I was overwhelmed every single morning by the vast selection of incredible food, and I never knew where to start first! I’m more partial to a hot, savoury breakfast rather than sweet, so I usually swayed more towards the hot buffet section which consisted of bacon, sausages, potatoes, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, and more.
However, I could not resist the strawberry croissant, which was not only super aesthetically pleasing, but it also tasted as good as it looked!
I didn’t personally try anything from the à la carte breakfast menu, but the French toast and pancakes that some of the other girls ordered looked phenomenal!
Paper Moon Algarve
As part of our stay at W Algarve, we were also lucky enough to enjoy a dining experience at the hotel’s on-site Italian restaurant one night.
Paper Moon is one of the most esteemed places to eat in the Algarve and as soon as we entered the restaurant which offers a gorgeous view over the resort, I knew that we were about to experience something special!
The setting of the restaurant simply oozes elegance and sophistication, complimented by the beautiful, opulent decor, and the ambient lighting.
The food itself is also exquisite, with a range of dishes to suit all dietary requirements and preferences. I opted for the beef and veal tagliatelle which was absolutely delicious, while some of the other girls went for the gnocchi, sea bass, risotto, and calamari.
If you’re looking for an incredible place to eat in the Algarve, but you don’t want to head out of the hotel, be sure to make a reservation at Paper Moon when you check into the W Algarve; you won’t regret it!
Outdoor pool and bar
Our stay at W Algarve was in mid-March, so while it certainly wasn’t cold, it also wasn’t super warm, so unfortunately, I didn’t get to try out the gorgeous outdoor pool on this particular stay.
However, it will be the very first thing I do next time I stay at W Algarve, because the entire outdoor pool deck is so beautiful and would make for the perfect afternoon of relaxation in the summer months.
There is also an outdoor jacuzzi/hot tub which is better suited for the winter months, and there’s also a lovely bar area, ideal for those summer afternoon cocktails!
Beach access from W Hotel Algarve
Yet another one of my favourite parts of the hotel, and one that I was very pleasantly surprised to discover, is the “secret” path that leads to direct beach access right from the hotel grounds!
The direct access to Evaristo and Balbina Beach means that you don’t have to venture very far at all to soak up the Algarve’s dramatic and spectacular coastline, and watching the sunset here one evening was one of my favourite parts of my entire stay!
AWAY Spa and fitness centre
If you like to stick to your workout routine while on holiday, you’ll be delighted to know that W Algarve has its very own state-of-the-art fitness centre, complete with all the fitness equipment you need for the perfect workout!
The hotel also boasts its very own spa, known as AWAY, complete with a sauna, steam room, hot tub, cold plunge, and numerous sun loungers which make for the perfect place to relax and unwind in the sunshine.
You can also enjoy dozens of massage, body, facial, and detox treatments at the spa, as well as beauty treatments such as manicures and pedicures.
