If you ask me what my favourite food is, while I’d usually say that it’s an impossible question to answer, my normal go-to answer would probably be pizza. In my opinion, pizza is one of the greatest creations on Earth and I’m not ashamed to admit that I probably eat pizza 3-4 times a week.

So, when we were in Brighton for the first time as part of our South Coast England road trip a few weeks ago and we were researching for somewhere good to eat, we came across Purezza Pizza Brighton on TripAdvisor.

It had awesome ratings and reviews and being the pizza fiends that we are, we couldn’t wait to try it out, so we headed straight there for lunch while we were in Brighton.

Purezza Pizza Brighton Review – Best Vegan Restaurant in Brighton

Purezza Pizza Brighton - The UK's First and Best Vegan Pizzeria

Upon our arrival at Purezza Pizza Brighton, it was pretty quiet inside, although there were a few people seated outside as it was such a lovely day. We originally sat down outside, but the sun was a bit too hot and neither of us had suncream on and as we both burn ridiculously quickly, we thought it was best to head inside!

We’d already checked out the menu briefly online before we arrived, but to our shock, the waitress who greeted us at the door informed us that Purezza was an entirely vegan pizzeria and she asked if we would still like to dine there.

Both Matt and I try to make conscious food choices as often as possible and we endeavour to choose vegan or veggie options whenever we can, so the fact that Purezza Pizza Brighton was an entirely vegan restaurant really didn’t bother us in the slightest, and we were actually really quite excited to try out a completely vegan pizza restaurant!

The Menu

Purezza menu Brighton

The menu at Purezza is vast and extensive and has numerous nibbles, starters and sides to choose from as well as non-pizza dishes like lasagne and a ‘pure bowl’, and of course, a huge variety of different pizzas to choose from as well.

Our waitress was incredibly kind and accommodating and was more than happy to explain what all the different ingredients and toppings on the pizzas were, and she also double-checked with the chef to see whether any of the pizzas contained any nuts as we always have to check due to Matt’s severe allergy.

homemade lemonade and cider

For our drinks, I went for Purezza’s homemade lemonade which was really yummy and refreshing and perfect for the hot summer’s day that we were having, although I would have preferred it to be a little bit more lemony as it was just lacking that little bit of extra kick, in my opinion.

Matt had a can of Sandford Orchards Devon Cider which he really enjoyed, although it was pretty bloody expensive for such a small can!

Now let’s get onto the good stuff; the pizzas!

As I’m someone who nearly always goes for the savoury option over something sweet if I’m given a choice, some of my absolute favourite foods are bread goods, any kind of potatoes and of course, pizza! So, when I saw ‘The One With The Potatoes’ pizza listed on the Purezza menu, it instantly piqued my interest. Potatoes on pizza? It was my idea of heaven!

As well as toppings of potatoes, my pizza also had smoked mozzarella, pulled porketta (a sort of bacon/ham substitute) and it was originally supposed to come with aubergines but I swapped them out for nduja (of course, the vegan kind!).

At first glance, you really can’t tell that it’s a vegan pizza at all; it looked exactly like every other meat pizza I’ve ever had. Once I tasted the pizza, however, I could certainly tell that it wasn’t regular mozzarella cheese as it was slightly too gooey and not quite the same level of flavour that normal mozzarella has.

The other toppings, however, were scrumptious and while I found the texture of potatoes on pizza incredibly odd, I did still really enjoy it. Nduja is one of my fairly recent discoveries when it comes to pizza toppings as there’s a pizza place in my hometown of York that has the most scrumptious nduja sausage pizza (although that is just a regular meat pizza). I thought that Purezza’s version was pretty good; it had the regular spiciness that nduja has, but it was slightly too sloppy for me. Matt absolutely loved it though!

I honestly think the best part about the pizzas at Purezza Brighton was the crust/base; the dough was so soft and chewy, with just the right amount of crispiness in places; it was positively divine!

vegan pizza

Matt ordered the daily special pizza at Purezza which was essentially a combination of nearly all the toppings that they offered on that day. I can’t remember exactly what was on his pizza, but I know he had nduja, pulled porketta, parmesan cheese, mozzarella and maybe a few more toppings that we can’t quite remember the names of!

As we both enjoy trying each other’s food whenever we order something different to see which one is better, we followed this same protocol at Purezza and while Matt argued that his pizza was better, I personally thought that mine was tastier. However, they were both incredibly yummy and a great way to introduce ourselves to fully vegan pizza for the first time!

I’m still not 100% sure that I’m ready to commit to fully vegan pizzas just yet (unless someone makes a like-for-like chicken or pepperoni substitute in the very near future!), but I did thoroughly enjoy trying them out at Purezza Pizza Brighton and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant to you if you’re looking for somewhere yummy to eat in Brighton.

Purezza also have restaurants in Bristol, Camden and Manchester , so look out for those if you’re ever in one of those places!
