our trip around the world - 3 months before

I know I say this every single month but I really cannot believe that it’s just three months before our trip around the world.

Preparations for our trip really are in full swing now and I’m starting to panic ever so slightly but the excitement is also officially kicking in; there’s just so much adrenaline and so many emotions!

Without further ado, here’s where we are in regards to planning for our trip around the world – 3 months before.

3 Months Before

Vaccinations

While we haven’t actually received any type of injection yet – we’ve still got plenty of time! – we have filled out all the necessary forms and returned them to our doctor’s surgery.

It was actually a very simple process; I paid a visit to our local GP who provided us with the relevant forms that we needed to fill out and return back to them.

The forms include all the details that we needed to share about our trip; any vaccinations we’d already had, where we’re travelling to, any allergies we suffer as well as the types of injections we think we’ll need. The nurses will then assess our forms and see which vaccinations we’ll require before we go.

I imagine we’re going to need the likes of Malaria tablets, as well as vaccinations for the likes of typhoid and cholera. Once we know exactly which vaccinations we require, we’ll make our appointments and get them as soon as possible!

Purchased my backpack

I’ve actually only just purchased my backpack today! It’s this gorgeous Osprey Women’s Fairview 70L backpack in Rainforest Green and was very kindly purchased by my parents as part of my Christmas present (I just hadn’t got around to actually buying it until now!).

Despite its huge size, I think it’ll be the perfect partner to take travelling with us as it has adjustable straps, as well as two separate bags that can be taken apart and used individually.

It comes equipped with a 57L main backpack, as well as a 13L day pack; perfect for taking with us on day trips and for carrying my laptop in. It’s also almost as big as me (!) so I definitely need to get used to carrying it around on my back before we go!

Getting fit and healthy – 3 months before our trip

This leads me nicely to my next point…

The last month or so has seen both Matt and I eating remarkably healthy, as well as doing much more exercise in an attempt to improve our health and fitness before we go travelling.

One of my goals on my ‘before I go travelling bucket list’ was to be able to run 5K; while I’m definitely not convinced that I’ll be able to do this before we go, I do already feel much fitter, healthier and stronger than I did before the New Year.

I think a lot of that is down to our healthier (and much more affordable!) lifestyle that we’ve adopted over the last few weeks and I’m excited to continue to improve my fitness before we go.

Making a rough itinerary of things to do in NZ

In the last few days, I’ve started doing more and more research about the best things to see and do in the North Island and South Island of New Zealand.

We’ll be spending around six weeks in the North Island and probably the same amount of time in the South, so we’ll have quite a bit of time to cram in as much as possible.

I’ve taken to the likes of Pinterest, blog posts and even Instagram for inspiration on things to do and I’m thinking of putting together a sort of bucket list post of everything I want to see while we’re travelling. Let me know in the comments or on Twitter if that’s something you’d like to see!

Self-employed for one month!

At the time of writing this post, I have officially been self-employed for just over one month!

I can’t even begin to explain how incredible these last few weeks have been; both in terms of freelancing and my blog.

SO many incredible things have happened and opportunities have occurred that wouldn’t have been possible if I hadn’t taken the leap and I’m so grateful that I’m able to make this my career.

I will have numerous posts coming up over the next few weeks and months all about my career journey and making my way into self-employment and I’m so unbelievably excited to share this journey with you all as it wouldn’t be possible without your support!

  1. Ugh I am so jealous – I wish I could travel the world! I haven’t been abroad in so long, and I definitely need to do it before I start working full-time after graduation… I look forward to hearing about your adventures!
