Mr. Purple Rooftop Bar had been on my NYC rooftop bucket list for so many years before I finally visited for the first time in October 2024, but when I did eventually get around to experiencing this highly-esteemed rooftop spot in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, it certainly didn’t disappoint!
It might not be the cheapest rooftop bar in NYC, but it certainly is one of the coolest, with truly epic views of Manhattan, as well as some of my favourite cocktails in the city!
In my review of Mr. Purple NYC below, I’m sharing everything you need to know about this LES hotspot, including the best time to visit, what to order from the happy hour menu, and all the details about visiting Mr. Purple’s iconic rooftop pool!

Mr. Purple NYC Rooftop Bar, Lounge & Pool

Located on the 15th floor of Hotel Indigo Lower East Side in Manhattan, New York City, Mr. Purple is a prestigious rooftop bar and lounge, with its very own rooftop pool overlooking the spectacular Manhattan skyline.
When we visited at the beginning of October 2024, at around 4 PM (just in time for the start of happy hour!), we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the rooftop was pretty quiet! The pool was still open at the beginning of October, but no one was swimming in it as it was a little too chilly, and as the evening progressed, the rooftop became more and more busy.
We got to enjoy the outdoor rooftop area where the pool is, but we didn’t stay too late into the evening to see Mr. Purple transform into its incredible nightclub and lounge area inside the rooftop bar.
As the evenings progress, Mr. Purple becomes an exciting and vibrant place to enjoy some of the best nightlife in the Lower East Side, but you can also enjoy a fun playlist from the moment Mr. Purple opens during the day, either inside the indoor bar/lounge, or outside on the rooftop patio.
Our time at Mr. Purple NYC was so much fun and even if you don’t intend to use the pool while you’re there, I would seriously encourage you to visit for cocktails and epic views!
The rooftop is also open all year-round, so it’s the perfect spot to have on your New York City itinerary, regardless of when you’re visiting!

Mr. Purple Rooftop Bar NYC menu

As part of our visit to Mr. Purple NYC, we got the chance to try out two different cocktails each, as well as a few bites from the happy hour menu, including the French fries, mini guac and chips, and the mini hummus with pitta.
If I’m being 100% honest, the food at Mr. Purple isn’t the best rooftop bar food I’ve had in New York City, but the cocktails might just be some of my favourites!
It was my first time ever trying a French 75 cocktail during our visit to Mr. Purple NYC and ever since, it has become my number one go-to cocktail at every bar I visit!
At Mr. Purple, their French 75 is made with Fords gin, prosecco, and fresh lemonade, and it truly is one of my favourite drinks in the whole of New York City!

As well as discovering my new-found love for French 75 cocktails, we also tried the classic margarita, the Mr. Purple Cosmo (with gin instead of vodka), and the Old Fashioned.
All the cocktails were absolutely delicious, and while they are a little pricey at $20 to $22 per cocktail (which is actually the standard at most rooftop bars in NYC), you can get some pretty good deals on food and drinks at happy hour at Mr. Purple…
The guac and chips were a little disappointing in my opinion, but the hummus and pitta was absolutely scrumptious and such a generous portion for only $6 at happy hour!
While we only got the chance to try a few bites from the happy hour food menu, Mr. Purple actually boasts a very impressive food menu, including dishes such as chicken schnitzel, skirt steak, fish tacos, caesar salad, and more! I’ve heard such great things about the chicken schnitzel, so I’ll definitely have to try that next time I visit!
Mr Purple happy hour

Mr. Purple’s happy hour deals are available Monday to Friday from 4 PM to 7 PM and you’ll find $11 cocktails and wine, and $6 bites, including French fries, pretzel bites, guac and chips, and hummus and pitta.
Mr. Purple New York Rooftop Pool

There are very few rooftops in New York City with a pool as impressive as the one at Mr. Purple, and even though we didn’t actually go for a swim in it ourselves (it was a little too cold for our liking!), it was incredibly cool to see the magnificent Manhattan skyline as the backdrop for the rooftop pool.
Below, you can find all the details you need to know about visiting the pool at Mr. Purple NYC.

Views from Mr. Purple Hotel Indigo

The views from Mr. Purple are genuinely some of my favourite rooftop bar views in the whole of NYC! I usually prefer the views from rooftops and observation decks in Midtown Manhattan as everything looks more impressive when you’re much closer to the towering skyscrapers, but the views of the Manhattan skyline from Mr. Purple are truly so incredible.
From the 15th floor rooftop, you can see the Empire State Building, as well as Edge at Hudson Yards, Summit One Vanderbilt, Billionaire’s Row, and the One World Trade Center in all of its magnificent glory.

Sure, the views aren’t quite as up close as they are from some of the Midtown rooftops, but I love that you can see the expansive skyline so clearly from Mr. Purple, especially on a bright, clear day.
The pictures above and throughout this guide really don’t do it justice, so you’ll just have to head there and experience the views for yourself!

Mr. Purple NYC Review – conclusion
I hope you enjoyed this Mr. Purple NYC review and I hope it’s somewhere you’ll consider adding to your New York itinerary. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth the $200 minimum spend to access the pool, but I do think it’s worth visiting the rooftop just for cocktails and snacks, especially during happy hour from Monday to Friday, 4 PM to 7 PM!
