How To Make Money While Travelling With TEFL Org

To properly kick off my blog series about how to make money while travelling, I’ve teamed up with The TEFL Org who provide courses on Teaching English as a Foreign Language so you can make money from pretty much anywhere in the world.

One of my biggest goals for years now has been to find as many ways as possible to make money online so that I could travel indefinitely. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you’ll know that Matt and I spent 11 months travelling New Zealand, Australia and Southeast Asia before we had to return home to the UK back in March due to Coronavirus (more on that below). While we were gutted to have to put our dream of travelling full time on hold for the time being (and we still are), it’s just made us more determined than ever to find ways to continue travelling once it’s fully safe to do so again.

Alongside my dream of being able to travel full time indefinitely myself, I’ve also been working towards a new goal over the past year or so and that’s to help YOU achieve a life of fulfilment and to show you guys how you can travel and earn money at the same time.

Throughout this post, you’ll find plenty of information about how to earn money while travelling with The TEFL Org, as well as some of the ways I earn money myself while travelling. If I’ve missed anything, let me know in the comments or head over to The TEFL Org Instagram page and submit your questions there!

What it’s like to travel during Covid-19

Flying home due to Coronavirus

Before we get started on how to make money while travelling, I just wanted to share a bit more about myself and my journey of travelling full time and what it was like to travel during a global pandemic in case you’re new around here or needed a little refresher!

In April 2019, I set off on an indefinitely long trip around the world with my boyfriend, Matt. We travelled around New Zealand, Australia and 7 countries in Southeast Asia before spending a few weeks in Vietnam before we had to fly home due to Covid-19.

Our intentions were to always travel for as long as possible but the global pandemic put a huge spanner in our plans which meant we were unable to travel in Asia any longer.

We were in Thailand towards the end of January when we really saw Covid begin to “take off”. By the time we got to Bangkok, we were wearing masks just like everyone else in the city and then when we were in Cambodia at the Angkor Wat Temples in February, our tour guide said that it was one of the quietest periods they’d experienced in a very long time.

The beginning of March arrived and we were still determined to keep travelling so we headed to Vietnam with the hopes of things calming down somewhat; as I’m sure you can guess, it didn’t!

By around the 10th of March, we realised we had a decision to make; do we keep trying to travel or do we admit defeat and head home? Unfortunately, against our wishes, we had to make the 66 hour journey back to the UK. It was devastating to have to put our travels on hold, but ultimately we knew that it was the right thing to do.

If it wasn’t for the pandemic, we wanted to start looking into ways we could diversify our incomes even more. We were both already making money online (more info on that below), but we wanted a new challenge and we had the idea of Teaching English abroad somewhere in mind.

Neither of us had the necessary qualifications, but now that we’re back in the UK for the time being, it’s something that I plan on doing and that’s where the wonderful people at The TEFL Org can help!

Who are The TEFL Org?

TEFL Org courses

The TEFL Org are the UK’s most experienced and accredited TEFL (teach English as a foreign language) course provider and they provide a plethora of different courses that can help you travel and make money from even the most remote locations.

Make money while travelling with The TEFL Org

One of the greatest advantages of undertaking a course with The TEFL Org is that you’re able to earn money both online or as a physical teacher in many countries all over the world.

This provides you with the flexibility to work from your laptop while travelling at the same time, or full time from the comfort of your bedroom while you save money for travelling; something that’s incredibly appealing to me as I love being able to work from home.

You’re also able to travel to dozens of countries worldwide and be fully equipped with the necessary qualifications required to teach English abroad.

The amount of money you can earn as a teacher with a TEFL qualification is really dependent on many factors, so there’s no exact figure I can give you. However, TEFL jobs in places like Hong Kong , Japan and South Korea will likely pay more than similar jobs in Thailand or Cambodia, for example.

It’s also dependent on how many hours you want to work and whether you decide to complete a specialist course in order to boost your CV and therefore potential earnings even more.

The TEFL Org also have a job centre page on their website where you can find remote or in-person TEFL work all over the world.

How I make money while travelling

I’m going to have plenty of more posts about ways to make money while travelling, but I wanted to share a brief insight into my own experience in this post.

There are so many ways to make money while travelling and I adore the fact that I’m able to make money pretty much anywhere in the world.

When we were in Australasia and Southeast Asia (and even now), I made most of my money by freelancing for various clients and brands worldwide. This largely involves writing content for their websites and creating social media content.

I’m also incredibly lucky to occasionally work with brands on my blog on sponsored content (more on that in an upcoming post) which allows me to continue to fund my travel obsession.

AtoZ UK Road Trip

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that Matt and I are currently in the process of embarking on a huge AtoZ UK road trip where we plan on visiting a place in the UK beginning with every letter of the alphabet.

It’s such a shame that we can’t travel internationally just yet, but this unexpected “downtime” in the UK is enabling us to properly explore our home country and embark on an exciting challenge at the same time.

Being in the UK again also means that things have slowed down somewhat for us and as we’re not rushing about to a new country every month, it’s giving us the chance to work on our skills.

One skill I’m incredibly excited to get working on is a TEFL course so that when we are able to travel overseas again, I’ll be equipped with the necessary means to make money as a teacher with a TEFL qualification, either online, or abroad.

120-Hour Premier Online TEFL Course

The 120-hour Premier Online TEFL Course is highly recommended and highly rated by The TEFL Org themselves, as well as by over 120,000 students who have undertaken the course.

The course allows you to teach English abroad or online once you’re fully qualified so it’s an excellent qualification to have under your belt if you’re looking to make money while travelling.

The TEFL Org provide you with 6 months to complete the course, but the majority of students complete it within 10-12 weeks, depending on their intended study schedule.

Once you’ve completed the course, you’ll receive both a TEFL Certification online as well as a hardcopy that you can then use as proof of your hard work when applying for teaching jobs online and abroad.

The TEFL Org have very kindly given readers of I’m Just A Girl a whopping 50% off their 120-hour Premier Online Course, making it just £159.50! Just enter the code ‘CHLOE50‘ at checkout!

So there you have it – a brief insight into just some of the ways you can make money while travelling!
