If you’re looking for one of the best winter date spots in NYC, look no further than the most romantic place in the whole city; the emblematic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.
This iconic masterpiece is one of the best things to see in New York at Christmas and it also makes for an excellent winter date location thanks to its unparalleled beauty and the many wonderful and romantic things to see and do around the tree.

4. Check out the views from an observation deck

New York’s observation decks can be visited all year round, so they’re not entirely reserved for a winter date, but they are a great option in the cold months in New York as you can enjoy epic views of the city from inside one of the towering skyscrapers!
The Top of the Rock and Summit One Vanderbilt are my personal favourite observation decks in New York and they’re definitely the most romantic in my opinion, but the Empire State Building, Edge and the One World Observatory are also excellent options too!
Buy tickets to the New York observation decks below!

5. Visit a winter-themed rooftop bar – winter date ideas in NYC

One of my favourite NYC winter date night activities is visiting a festive-themed rooftop bar.
New York is home to dozens of incredible rooftop bars and during the holiday season, many of them play host to spectacular themed events, where you’ll find igloos, giant Christmas trees and festive cocktails on the menu!

The Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park not only plays host to one of New York’s best Christmas markets, but it also boasts its very own ice skating rink that is technically free (if you bring your own skates!).

You might think that a boat cruise on the open water during the winter months in New York City might not be the best idea, but I can guarantee that it will be one of the most romantic things you do in NYC, especially if you opt for a brunch or dinner cruise.
Accompanied by delicious food, refreshing champagne or cocktails and, of course, a wonderful partner, a romantic brunch cruise around Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge is definitely one of the most romantic winter dates in NYC!

10. Warm up with a hot chocolate from Max Brenner

For a truly indulgent winter date in NYC, head to Max Brenner Chocolate Bar Restaurant!
At this world-famous chocolate restaurant, you can satiate your sweet tooth with decadent pastries, opulent cakes and, of course, a steaming mug of their signature hot chocolate. This is a New York winter date idea that can be enjoyed both during the day and at night as the flagship store next to Union Square is open daily from 10 AM to 11 PM (and until midnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday!).
11. Watch a Broadway show – date ideas NYC winter

A Broadway show is another one of the best winter date night ideas in NYC that can also be enjoyed all year round, but it’s a great date option to have in the cold winter months when the weather outside isn’t super enjoyable.
A few hours inside a cosy theatre watching a world-famous Broadway performance is sure to score you brownie points with your partner!
I always book tickets for a Broadway show on Ticketmaster as they usually have the best prices for many of the most iconic Broadway shows!
Bonus winter date idea in NYC: Broadway is just around the corner from Times Square, so you can head there at night after the show for an extra special date!

14. Watch a Radio City Rockettes performance

Watching a performance of the highly-coveted Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular is something that should be on everyone’s New York bucket list, so it’s not an activity that’s exclusively reserved for a winter date in NYC.
However, I do think that watching the Radio City Rockettes makes for an excellent festive date night in New York as not only can you enjoy the thrilling performance, but you can also explore the many romantic activities nearby, such as the Rockefeller Christmas Tree and The Rink!

- The Little Shop
17. Share a cookie from Levain Bakery

Levain Bakery is one of the most famous bakeries in New York City that’s renowned for their decadent cookies and while this winter date idea might not be quite as exciting as heading to a rooftop bar or taking a romantic brunch cruise, sharing a cookie from Levain Bakery is one of the best and easiest winter date ideas!
There are several branches of Levain Bakery in New York, with my personal favourite branch being the original location on West 74th Street on the Upper West Side.
Bonus NYC winter date idea: As this branch of Levain Bakery is just a couple of blocks from Central Park, I would highly recommend getting a few cookies to takeaway and enjoy on a romantic stroll through Central Park!
18. Take a couple’s cooking class – couple winter activities

I’ve already included recommendations for the best restaurants, rooftop bars and speakeasies in this ultimate guide to the best NYC winter date night ideas, but I think it’s also worth mentioning that a couple’s cooking class could also make for a fun and romantic date idea in the winter!
While it’s usually more fun to eat food than have to spend hours preparing it yourself, I think a cooking class is such a fun activity to enjoy as a couple as not only do you get to spend quality time together, but you can then enjoy the fruits of your labour afterwards!

- McSorley’s Old Ale House
- Paddy Maguire’s Ale House
- Doc Holliday’s
- Tavern On The Green

Fans of the hit Netflix Christmas series Dash and Lily will likely recognise the famous bookstore known as Strand as a huge part of the show was filmed there!
An afternoon spent browsing the hundreds of thousands of books that line the shelves of Strand is sure to be an impressive date idea in NYC for book lovers, especially as it allows you to escape the harsh winter temperatures outside!

The weather in New York City in the winter months can be extremely cold and in the event of a particularly cold day during your date in NYC, it’s a good idea to have an indoor activity planned such as visiting one of the city’s many museums.
A date at a museum isn’t to everyone’s taste (it’s not really my idea of a fun date!), but some people would love to spend an afternoon getting lost amongst history and facts, which is why this idea is included in this list of the best winter dates in NYC!
The best museums to visit on a New York winter date:
