Today (the 19th of October) marks exactly two years since I published my first ever blog post on I’m Just A Girl; ‘50 things about me‘.
The past two years have undoubtedly been the best years of my entire life and that’s largely due to this incredible little corner of the internet.
I wrote a post last year, celebrating one year of blogging and I wanted to repeat that this year to commemorate two years of I’m Just A Girl.
I’m Just A Girl was born out of a love for travel, beauty, food, diary-style posts, and most of all; a total and utter adoration for writing. I’ve read blogs for over six years now and I’ve had my own little space on the internet since around 2013 but I officially started the I’m Just A Girl you all know (and hopefully love!) on the 19th of October 2016.
I’d just finished my A Levels, decided not to go to university and I was working as a barista at Starbucks while I tried to figure out what the hell I wanted to do with my life. I always knew I had to do something with writing; it’s by far my greatest passion and I’ve always wanted to write in some way or another. When I started I’m Just A Girl, I was feeling a little lost as to the direction I thought my life would go and now it’s become my biggest achievement and greatest love (apart from Matt, of course…).
In the last two years I’ve grown, changed and developed as a person so much and I’m a much better and more rounded person now and I think an awful lot of that is down to my blog.
While I’ve been blogging since 2016 on this little space, I’ve only found my true passion of writing travel content since around April this year and now I simply can’t get enough. From my New York City travel guides, to planning for our round the world trip, each and every blog post I create about travel just fuels my wanderlust even further.
I’m so incredibly grateful to have this amazing platform where I can share my thoughts and feelings, as well as to encourage others to join me in my adoration and obsession with travelling.
I’ve also met so many wonderful people in the last two years, with me only finally meeting my amazing friend Bow this time last year! It’s so crazy to think that someone who’s been in my life such a short amount of time can have such an enormous impact on my friendships.
The last two years have been incredibly exciting for I’m Just A Girl and I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the most amazing brands; something which I’ll never ever get to used to. I’ve been extremely lucky enough to work with brands such as T-Zone, Luxury Retreats, M&S, Monks Cross and Cosy Club, just to name a few. Every time I think of what I’ve created from I’m Just A Girl, I honestly feel so unbelievably overwhelmed and so bloody grateful.
The support I’ve received from family, friends and of course, all you lovely lot has also been truly unbelievable and there’ll never be enough words to describe how much it means to me whenever I receive a new reader or comment. Writing has always, and will always, be the number one thing in my life that I’ve always wanted to do and so when people encourage me and read the words that I write, I just can’t believe it.
My mum and dad have been so supportive of me as well, and even though at times they might not fully understand what I do and how it works, they’re still proud of me regardless. Matt is also someone who’s been an absolute rock and supported everything I do with I’m Just A Girl. He’s suffered through countless photo shoots, me moaning about Instagram and he’s always encouraged me to write about whatever I feel like. I truly am the luckiest girl in the world.
Alongside my lifelong passion of writing, I’ve also always been obsessed with travelling but it was only back in April of this year that I realised I could make I’m Just A Girl into a ‘proper’ travel blog and when I made that decision, I just knew it was the right thing for me. Now I’m producing regular travel content in the form of travel guides, hotel reviews and restaurant recommendations. I also share my deep love affair with my hometown of York in an attempt to encourage you guys to visit the beautiful, historic city.
Each and every post I produce on I’m Just A Girl is a combination of my passion for writing, my obsession with travelling and my adoration of food. Not every single post you’ll find on here will be world-class, but I can assure you that every single post will have my unique voice and a sincere love for what I’m doing.
Not only has this blog brought me personal joy and rewards but it’s also been great from a professional perspective. As well as working with some truly incredible brands on I’m Just A Girl, this blog has also given me the opportunity to build a successful freelance travel writing career; something that I wish continues for a very long time. I know I bang on about it an awful lot but travel writing really does mean the absolute world to me so I really hope you guys continue to enjoy my travel content for many years to come!
This post has been way more emotional and has got way deeper than I originally intended but I really did just want to express my gratitude to each and every person who takes the time to read my content; you da best <3.
Have you been a reader of I’m Just A Girl since the beginning or is this the first ever post you’ve read? Whichever it is, I’m so, so grateful and I do hope you intend to stick around! Let me know your thoughts in the comments or on Twitter @imjustagirl_16.
