The Dormouse is a pub on the outskirts of York that I’ve visited a number of times now and every time I visit, my experience just gets better and better.
As part of my monthly outings with my grandma, we paid a visit to The Dormouse last month for delicious food and a good old catch-up.
Today’s post is all about the yummy food we enjoyed at The Dormouse and all the reasons why I think you should pay the pub a visit if you’re ever in York.

We decided not to order any starters as we planned on indulging in dessert so we went straight in with our mains.
My grandma opted for steak and sweet potato fries, accompanied by onion rings. The steak was cooked perfectly; succulent and juicy on the inside and delicately crispy on the outside. I didn’t actually try them but my grandma said that the sweet potato fries were absolutely delicious.
I’m not usually one to go for sweet potato fries (they’re a bit too healthy for me lol) but I know for certain that I can take my grandma’s word for it when she says they were good!

My main course consisted of pizza (obvs) and skin-on fries.
I went for the meat feast pizza which was topped with chicken, sausage, bacon, mozzarella and red onion chutney and it was IMMENSE. The stone-baked base was perfectly crispy, without being too crunchy and the toppings were absolutely delicious.
It was just the right size and I love how it was square-shaped instead of the regular ol’ circular offering; it’s the small things…
My skin-on fries were also so yummy; they were lightly salted and incredibly flavoursome. I really couldn’t recommend this food choice enough.

I’m not usually a dessert kind of person – it’s pretty rare that I’d choose pudding over a starter but on this particular occasion, my grandma and I opted for dessert.
I chose the Belgian chocolate brownie which was so bloody good. It came with vanilla ice cream and was smothered in chocolate sauce. Chocolate brownies are always the best dessert option in my opinion and this offering from The Dormouse is incredible!

My grandma opted for the classic vanilla crème brûlée and it looked sensational. Accompanied by a fresh strawberry and two crunchy biscuits, the crème brûlée was absolutely delicious. It was perfectly glazed on top with a rich and creamy inside, and I’d definitely go for this again when I next visit The Dormouse.
The staff at The Dormouse are also incredibly lovely and extremely accommodating to everyone; the service was quick and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.
We were also lucky enough to be seated by the open fire in the pub which gave us a lovely atmosphere to enjoy our meal. Our evening was filled with great food, wonderful chat and a perfect ambience; I really couldn’t recommend The Dormouse pub enough!

How lovely that you take your Gran on monthly days out, that must give you so much lovely quality time together! I’m not surprised that you had such a fantastic experience at this place, your food photographs are simply mouthwatering! The Belgian chocolate brownie looks to die for, my boyfriend is a big brownie lover as well so I know that he would have made the same choice as you from the menu! The kind and attentive staff and a seat by an open fire sound delightful to me, I’m sure you’ll be back at this place again!
