If you’ve read my blog for a while now, or you know me in real life, you’ll know just how much I bloody adore staying in a hotel. So when I turned 21 a couple of weeks ago, my mum and dad very kindly surprised me with a two-night hotel stay at the stunning Redworth Hall Hotel, located right in between Darlington and Durham.

It seems that no matter how many I stay in, or where in the world I am, the novelty of little chocolates left on your pillow, enormous beds with fluffy pillows and a tea and coffee station in your room, never wears off.

Pair that with unlimited continental and full English breakfast buffets, a stunning location and the possibility of an afternoon relaxing by the hotel pool, you’ve got a recipe for a very happy Chloe.

The hotel was absolutely spectacular and I wanted to share our experience of staying there in case you’re looking for a luxurious place to stay in the North East.

Here’s my ultimate Redworth Hall Hotel review and how we spent my 21st birthday weekend!

We had pretty much two full days at Redworth Hall Hotel; we arrived on Sunday afternoon and stayed until Tuesday lunchtime.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the most spectacular mansion-like building I’d ever seen. Once inside, we tried checking in but were told that we couldn’t check in until 3 pm, so we spent an hour or so drinking in the bar and I caught up on some work before we eventually checked into our room.

Our room – Redworth Hall Hotel review

Our room was actually a suite; it came equipped with an enormous living space, complete with a sofa, two chairs, a TV, a dressing table and a dining table with four accompanying chairs.

The pictures really don’t do it justice as the lighting wasn’t great but I think it’s one of the best places I’ve ever stayed in. Unfortunately, the sofa wasn’t the comfiest but the bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates on the coffee table more than made up for that…

The bedroom was located in a separate bit of the hotel room, with huge double doors concealing it in its own private room. The bed was ridiculously comfy and enormously spacious; I think the best part of staying in a hotel is just how well I always sleep.

Once we’d unpacked and spent some time appreciating our stunning room, we had a wander outside around the hotel grounds.

Redworth Hall Hotel is located very near to Newton Aycliffe but Matt and I didn’t actually leave the hotel premises until it was time to go home on Tuesday. It seemed like such a waste to venture too far outside considering just how beautiful the hotel was.

The hotel’s grounds were just as spectacular as its interior and it was such a beautifully sunny day; making the hotel look even more impressive in the sunlight.

The spa, sauna and swimming pool

Once we’d had our fill of soaking up the beauty of Redworth Hall Hotel’s stunning grounds, we made our way back up to our room to get ready for an evening spent in the swimming pool area.

Redworth Hall Hotel comes equipped with a large swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and fully equipped spa and gym service.

We spent a couple of hours relaxing by the pool and baking in the steam room; as we were there at dinner time, most other guests seemed to be getting ready or already eating so it was pretty quiet. However, the area gets remarkably busy during the early afternoon when guests are just checking in to the hotel.

I also loved the fact that there were deck chairs situated around the pool, so once you’d had enough of relaxing in the sauna, you could go and relax by the pool instead!

The food – Redworth Hall Hotel review

Usually, whenever Matt and I stay in a hotel on holiday, we literally only sleep there; we very rarely eat at the hotel.

However, as part of the amazing birthday gift of staying at Redworth Hall Hotel from my parents, we also had meals for both nights included in our stay. My relationship with food seems to be getting more intense, so I was incredibly excited to see what was in store on the Redworth Hall Hotel menu.

For my starter on the first night, I opted for the cheese and red onion croquette which is probably not something I’d usually go for as I’m not the biggest fan of cheese but it was actually one of the best starters I’ve had in a long time.

The cheese was perfectly melted and the immense flavour of the red onion complemented the cheese perfectly. The crunchy exterior of the croquette was cooked to perfection and I was overwhelmingly impressed by my starter (so much so, I actually opted for it both nights – which is something that I literally never do as I always like to try something different).

Matt opted for the haddock fishcakes for his starter and I’m not the biggest fan of fish so I wasn’t too overwhelmed by these but Matt claimed that they were absolutely delicious.

The portion sizes of the starters were just right; oftentimes you can have too much for your starter and then I get too full to properly enjoy my main but these were perfect.

As for my main on our first night at Redworth Hall Hotel, I went for the lamb which was an excellent choice on my behalf.

I think I’d go as far as to say that it was the best lamb I’ve ever had; it literally melted apart and was served with just the right amount of mint sauce to complement it, without eradicating too much of the lamb’s actual flavour.

I’m not much of a vegetable person a lot of the time but I thoroughly enjoyed the roasted carrot, parsnip and fondant potato that the lamb was served with. If you’re planning to eat at the restaurant during your stay at Redworth Hall Hotel, I would 100% recommend the lamb dish as it was the best thing I ate the whole time we were there.

For Matt’s main, he went for the beef which was cooked in a similar way to my lamb in that every mouthful just fell apart in the best possible way.

It was tender and flavoursome and was cooked to absolute perfection; while I did thoroughly enjoy the beef, I still think mine was better!

The part of the meal that I was most looking forward to was the chocolate and orange torte dessert that I was promised (by myself lol) upon arrival at Redworth Hall Hotel.

While it was incredibly rich and intense, it was absolutely delightful when consumed in tiny mouthfuls. The chocolate and orange torte was served with a white chocolate milkshake which I was really looking forward to but it was actually really warm and a little curdled; it definitely wasn’t what I was expecting.

The torte itself, however, more than made up for the milkshake’s downfall and it was so delicious in fact, that Matt actually ordered it for his dessert on our second night at Redworth.

Matt went for the chocolate brownie fudge sundae for his dessert on our first night and he thoroughly enjoyed it; the brownies were warm and gooey, and when paired with the ice cream, it made for a delicious, albeit incredibly rich combination.

On our second night, Matt chose the beef burger, accompanied by enormous onion rings, home-cooked chips and a side salad.

The burger was stuffed with cheese, so each bite simply oozed melted cheese and perfectly cooked beef; it was unreal. The onion rings tasted a bit like doughnuts to me, which really didn’t seem like the ideal combination of flavours but the home-cooked chips were scrumptious.

My second evening meal consisted of garlic and herb chicken and home-cooked chips.

It certainly wasn’t as good as the lamb but it was still incredibly tasty. The garlic and herb marinade was utterly divine and was just the right amount of flavour without being too overpowering. The homemade chips were also yummy and while I do still prefer skinny fries, these were a great accompaniment to the chicken.

I opted for the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream which I hadn’t eaten in years but I’m so glad that I went for it because it was absolutely scrumptious.

While incredibly rich and intense, it was truly delicious and the salted caramel ice cream paired wonderfully with the sticky toffee pudding.

We spent the full day on Monday lounging by the pool, chilling in the sauna and steam room and I also managed to get a bit of work done in the spa restaurant area while Matt went to the gym.

I hope you enjoyed reading this Redworth Hall Hotel review as our stay was truly wonderful and I’m so thankful to my parents for giving us such a lovely couple of days away for my birthday.
