When my aunty Karen (yes, really!) messaged us a few months ago asking if we wanted to visit Karen’s Diner in Sheffield, my immediate thought was “oh my God, no!”. I’d heard and seen so many things about Karen’s Diner floating around on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook and the very thought of it absolutely terrified me as I’m really not one for confrontation or rudeness.
If you’re not familiar with the concept of Karen’s Diner, the idea behind it is essentially “good food, terrible staff” where the waiters and waitresses are mean to you while serving your food and providing hilarious entertainment during your time in the diner.
It seems like an absurdly crazy concept, but that’s what makes it brilliant; you’re constantly told to “f*ck off”, you can complain as much as you want and you can get up and join in with silly games, dance-offs and random rounds of karaoke.
As I said, I was sure that it wouldn’t be something that I’d enjoy, but I agreed to go with my aunty Karen, my mum and my cousin Jess just for the fun of it. After our visit to Karen’s Diner Sheffield at the weekend, I can now safely say that it’s an absolutely fantastic (albeit quite brutal!) dining experience and one that I’d seriously urge you to check out yourself if you’re looking for a unique way to eat a burger!
If you’re looking for somewhere fun, unique and a little bit crazy to eat, check out my Karen’s Diner Sheffield review below for everything you need to know about this weird and wonderful dining experience!
The staff at Karen’s Diner Sheffield

It was absolutely pouring with rain on our way to Karen’s Diner Sheffield and upon our arrival, we were immediately ushered inside and told to “shut the f**king door!”.
We’d only been there for 30 seconds and I already knew we were in for quite the experience!
The staff at Karen’s Diner are obviously encouraged to be as rude and as mean as possible to guests (without overstepping boundaries – there are some things that are very obviously off-limits) and while this still seems like a crazy concept to me, it works so well and it provides such a hilarious dining experience.
Our waiters were truly exceptional, with Jack (our main server) positively berating us, our food choices and pretty much anything and everything he could find to wind us up about!

The great thing about the concept of Karen’s Diner is that you’re also encouraged to be rude to the staff as well (again, without saying anything too offensive or off-bounds). While this generally would make me feel like the worst person in the world as I can never imagine being this rude to anyone, let alone wait staff, the fact that the staff seriously urge you to do so, makes it truly hilarious.
As my aunty is literally called Karen, the staff at Karen’s Diner Sheffield spent a lot of time at our table taking the mick and generally being rude and mean to us (in the best possible way!). At one point, they even took my phone and took dozens of selfies with other staff and customers who were at the diner!
I also made the terrible mistake of claiming that the song that was playing in the background (Celine Dion’s It’s All Coming Back To Me Now) was my favourite song, so they handed me a microphone and made me sing karaoke in front of the whole diner! It was ridiculously embarrassing but so funny, especially to everyone else there!
The staff at Karen’s execute their roles to absolute perfection and the team we were served by were just incredible. It’s a concept that absolutely shouldn’t work, but it somehow does and if you’re looking for a truly unique dining experience that will have your face and belly hurting from laughter, you really need to visit Karen’s Diner!
The food at Karen’s Diner Sheffield

Naturally, whenever I’m heading to a new restaurant for the first time, the number one thing that I’m looking forward to is the food.
With Karen’s Diner, however, the food was sort of secondary to me, as I was way more intrigued about the actual dining experience. I’m delighted to say, however, that Karen’s Diner’s philosophy of “great food, terrible service” was very much true!
With a brilliant selection of burgers, loaded fries and plenty of sweet treats to choose from, the food at Karen’s is very much standard diner food made with high-quality ingredients.

My aunty and cousin went for one of the many burgers on offer at Karen’s, whereas my mum and I decided to share two portions of loaded fries and onion rings.
The loaded cheesy beef brisket fries were absolutely delicious, as were the chicken and bacon fries. My aunty and cousin both loved their burgers as well and even though I didn’t try them, they certainly looked scrumptious!
The portion sizes were also pretty generous and we didn’t actually get to finish everything, largely because we spent most of the time in fits of giggles at everything that was going on!
Karen’s Diner Sheffield menu

I’ve already mentioned the menu at Karen’s Diner in Sheffield a number of times throughout this review, but I wanted to share more details about it here so that you know what to expect!
There are currently 11 different burgers to choose from at Karen’s in Sheffield, all of which are named after Karen. There’s the “Basic Karen” which comes with Wagyu beef, cheese, tomato, lettuce, beetroot and garlic mayo, as well as “Karen’s Best Breast” which is a grilled chicken burger, complete with bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado and spicy mayo.
As well as the many burgers on the menu at Karen’s Diner Sheffield, you’ll also find chicken wings, a variety of loaded fries, numerous sweet treats such as waffles and churros, as well as milkshakes, cocktails, beer, shots and more.
I went for the “City Karen” cocktail which was pretty much a Cosmopolitan and if they didn’t cost £8 each, I could have quite happily drank these all night!
The menu at Karen’s Diner is pretty simple and straightforward, but it works very well and while the food definitely is great, it’s the actual dining experience that makes it such a great and unique place to visit.

FAQs about Karen’s Diner Sheffield review

If you’re still not totally sold on the idea of Karen’s Diner or you just feel like you need a bit more information about this bizarre concept, I’ve put together a brief FAQ section below!
Can kids go to Karen’s diner?
There is no strict age limit at Karen’s Diner (as entry to the diner with children is up to the diner’s discretion), but their policy states that all children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
However, I personally wouldn’t visit Karen’s Diner with children as it’s really not very suitable. I’d recommend heading there as a couple or with a group of friends for a truly hilarious time!
Where did the concept of Karen’s Diner originate?
The first Karen’s Diner opened in 2021 in Sydney, Australia. The concept of it being called “Karen’s Diner” is that a woman called Karen is usually a middle-aged woman who likes to complain a lot.
Of course, this is a very generic and quite rude stereotype, but this is the concept they’ve gone with and it works very well!
Do you need to book a table to visit Karen’s Diner?
Bookings for Karen’s Diner at pretty much every single location get booked up weeks and even months in advance, so I’d really recommend reserving a table in advance.
Walk-ins are available at some locations, but it’s not very likely that you’ll get a table straight away, so booking in advance is definitely ideal!
How long can you spend at Karen’s Diner Sheffield?
I’m not sure what the policy is for other Karen’s Diner locations, but we only had an hour to spend at the one in Sheffield.
This is more than enough time to enjoy all the hilarious entertainment and be berated by staff before you’re literally told to “pay the bill quickly and f**k off!”. The only thing I would say is that we didn’t feel like it was quite enough time to eat all of our food and take part in all the fun and games, so while the food is pretty good, I’d probably recommend just ordering a few side dishes to share instead so that you can truly soak up the entire experience.
If you’re more interested in watching the hilarities unfold, rather than actually taking part (like many other customers did while we were there), then ordering a proper meal will be more than sufficient!
Do they cater to dietary requirements and allergies?
While the staff at Karen’s Diner will almost certainly be the rudest and most horrible staff you’ll have ever encountered, they do still take allergies, intolerances and dietary requirements seriously and you’ll be asked if you have any allergies etc upon your arrival at the diner.
They also have numerous dishes on the menu that cater to vegetarian and vegan diets, including the “Vegan Karen” burger, the “Oktoberfest Karen” burger and numerous side dishes.
