Heavenly Desserts York

If you asked me whether I was more of a sweet or savoury kind of person on an average day, you could nearly always expect me to answer ‘savoury’. However, when I’m in the mood for something sweet, decadent and chocolatey, I’m really in the mood for it and sometimes that craving for sugar far outweighs my adoration for all things savoury.

So, when I was invited to try out the relatively new, but already highly coveted, Heavenly Desserts branch in York, I couldn’t wait to visit and try out some of their incredible-looking desserts and sweet treats that I’d seen all over Instagram.

If you’re heading to York anytime soon and you need somewhere to add to your list of places to eat and drink in York that will surely sate your sweet tooth, check out my review of Heavenly Desserts York below!

P.S. I apologise in advance if the pictures below make you desperately crave cake!

desserts and friends

Heavenly Desserts was founded in 2008 by Mohammad Imran & Yousif Aslam and since then, they’ve spread their incredible luxury dessert brand across the UK and beyond. Heavenly Desserts have branches in dozens of cities across the UK, including places like Cambridge, Birmingham, Cardiff , Leeds , Sheffield and many more and they’re also expanding their brand to countries all over the world including Denmark, Hong Kong , USA, Canada and more!

The first thing that you’ll notice when entering Heavenly Desserts York is the stunning decor; with off-white marble and gorgeous pink, blue and gold tones, it quite literally is an Instagrammer’s dream!

There are numerous seating areas, including fabulous booths decked out in the most beautiful pink and marble furnishings, as well as proper tables and chairs as well.

where to eat in York

The menu at Heavenly Desserts is so vastly extensive that it literally took us about 15-minutes to pore over the dozens of pages featuring beautifully bespoke and luxury hand-crafted creations.

I honestly don’t think that there was a single thing on the menu that I wouldn’t have eaten, which just means that I have to keep revisiting so that I can make my way through the many cakes, cookies, waffles, crepes, gelato and more!

After much deliberation, my friend and I finally decided what we wanted to order. As part of the press visit, we were very kindly given the option to choose anything from the menu, including a drink and a dessert.

I just want to add now before I finally get on to talking about the food – the staff at Heavenly Desserts York were truly wonderful; they were so friendly and accommodating and more than happy to help us choose the best things on the menu!

For my drink, I went for the strawberrylicious milkshake which certainly managed to live up to its name! It was full of thick, creamy strawberries and cream ice cream and it was served in a huge, tall glass which meant that I could make it last as long as possible, unlike some places where they give you a tiny glass!

affogato coffee

My friend ordered the Signature Affogato which includes two shots of espresso served over a scoop of Madagascan Vanilla gelato.

I’m really not the biggest fan of coffee (despite having previously worked in Starbucks!), but my friend really likes coffee and she said that this was delicious!

Shortly after we’d ordered our drinks and desserts, our lovely waitress brought over three pieces of strawberries and cream Mochi; a rice flour dough that’s steamed and pounded to give it a soft and chewy texture.

Despite having travelled around many places in Asia (Mochi originates from Japan) and seeing it served in many restaurants and eateries on my travels, I’d never actually tried it before as I’d never liked the sound of it. This, however, was absolutely scrumptious and I couldn’t believe that I’d never tried it before! Next time I see this on a dessert menu, I won’t think twice about ordering it!

chocolate orange pudding

Next up, the desserts that we’d ordered arrived and they smelled just as good as they looked so we knew that we were in for a real treat!

I ordered the chocolate orange pudding which is my absolute favourite flavour of chocolate and dessert in the world! While chocolate orange flavours are starting to gain more and more traction recently, apart from the actual Terry’s Chocolate Orange, you never really used to be able to get many sweet treats or desserts that were chocolate orange flavoured.

The chocolate orange pudding from Heavenly Desserts York more than lived up to my expectations and if I could get a piece to send to every single one of you reading this to show just how good it was, I would!

The Belgian chocolate sponge was infused with a chocolate and orange liquid centre and topped with a scoop of Madagascan Vanilla gelato and candied orange pieces. The sponge was so light and airy and the flavours of the chocolate orange were really prominent; there was no holding back from me eating every single last bit of this!

My friend ordered the Banoffee Crêpe which again, really isn’t to my taste at all as I hate bananas, but I don’t think either of us were complaining as it meant that we didn’t have to share and could inhale our individual desserts entirely to ourselves! 😂

It did look incredible though and there was so much banana on top which, although it’s pretty much my worst nightmare, was great for my friend who was eating it!

Alongside our individual desserts, our waitress also very kindly brought out one of Heavenly Desserts’ Signature Milk Cakes in their Lotus Biscoff flavour and my goodness, was it heavenly (pun intended!).

I’d never usually go for biscoff-flavoured things and I would have never normally ordered this for myself but I’m so grateful that the lovely manager sent it over for us to try because it was delicious! It consists of a soft sponge that’s soaked in milk syrup and while I’ll admit that it doesn’t sound the most appetising, I really couldn’t get over how much I enjoyed this!

Our time at Heavenly Desserts York was absolutely amazing and I’m already desperate to go back and try more of the menu! If you’re looking for a luxury dessert place in York to sate your sweet tooth, make sure to head to Heavenly Desserts!
