The best Greenwich Village food tour with Secret Food Tours NYC

When it came to choosing our food tour with Secret Food Tours NYC, I was really spoiled for choice as they offer a Greenwich Village tour, as well as a Brooklyn food tour and a Chinatown/Little Italy food tour, so it was hard to choose just one foodie neighbourhood to explore!
In the end, I decided that the Greenwich Village tours had the best food stops for us, and I’m so glad we booked this tour as it’s one of the best foodie experiences I’ve had in NYC so far!
We opted for the 11 AM tour on a Tuesday morning at the beginning of October and were promptly greeted by our incredible tour guide, Amanda, outside the IFC Center in Greenwich Village. Our tour was at the maximum capacity (12 people), which I think is the perfect amount of people as it didn’t feel too crowded, but there were still plenty of people to chat to and enjoy the experience with.

Review: Greenwich Village Food Tour itinerary

On this epic Greenwich Village NYC foodie tour, you’ll visit six different food stops, where you’ll experience an authentic New York bagel, a classic NY pizza slice, a hearty falafel sandwich, plus numerous sweet treats, and an exciting “secret dish”.
Food stops on the Greenwich Village Food Tour with Secret Food Tours NYC:
*Please note that the food stops and menu items are subject to change based on availability, weather, and other circumstances.
In the section below, I’ve broken down each food stop and explained in great detail what you can expect from the food and the overall experience of each stop!
Mamoun’s Falafel

The first stop on our Greenwich Village Walking Food Tour with Secret Tours NYC was Mamoun’s Falafel, a place that I’d actually heard about many times before, but somewhere that I was convinced I’d never visit as I’ve always claimed to dislike falafel…
However, Mamoun’s turned out to be my favourite surprise stop of the food tour and I genuinely couldn’t believe how much I loved the falafel sandwich we had here! Amanda, our awesome tour guide, explained that Mamoun’s is a Greenwich Village institution when it comes to the food scene for NYU students after a heavy night out, and after trying this incredible falafel sandwich, I can totally see why!

Not only was I surprised by how tasty the falafel was, but I was also amazed by how generous the portion was! If this was the size of the dish on our first stop, it appeared we were in for quite a treat for the rest of the tour!
Mamoun’s actually has three locations in Manhattan; one in Greenwich Village, one in the East Village, and one on the Upper West Side, so if you get a craving for more falafel after your food tour, you can always get your fix elsewhere in the city!
Bagels on the Square

Next up on our tour was Bagels on the Square, which is situated just next door to the famous Carmine Street branch of Joe’s Pizza.
I’m no stranger when it comes to New York bagels as they’re one of my favourite things to eat whenever I’m in the city, but it was my first time trying Bagels on the Square and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
Our tour guide, Amanda, headed inside to collect our bagels; the classic scallion cream cheese “schmear” on an everything bagel. We were given one full bagel to share between two of us, which was yet another super generous portion!

The everything bagel is always my go-to in NYC, but I usually opt for a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, so this was actually my first time trying the quintessential New York cream cheese and scallion bagel, and it’s safe to say that it was not my last (it’s actually my new go-to filling now!).
The bagel itself was springy on the inside, with just the right amount of “bite” on the outside, and the scallion cream cheese filling was absolutely divine! Yet another hit spot on our walking food tour in Greenwich Village!
Molly’s Cupcakes

The third stop of the tour was Molly’s Cupcakes; a gorgeous little cupcake shop just over the road from Bagels on the Square which was founded by a guy called Johnny, who named his franchise after his third-grade teacher who used to bake cupcakes for the class whenever it was someone’s birthday. Molly’s Cupcakes also won the season one finale of Cupcake Wars in 2010!
Not only did I find this story incredibly sweet and inspiring, I was also delighted to discover that the cupcakes themselves were absolutely delicious!

We were given one mini red velvet cupcake each, and the small sweet treat was a welcome addition after two previous sizeable portions, so it was nice to break up the tour a bit with something slightly less substantial!
Red velvet has always been one of my favourite cupcake flavours, and this treat from Molly’s lived up to my expectations and more! If we didn’t still have more stops to visit on our food tour, I could have quite easily purchased a whole box of cupcakes to take away with me!
As well as their Greenwich Village branch, Molly’s Cupcakes also has 18 other locations across the US, including 11 branches in Chicago, 3 branches in Iowa, 2 branches in Ohio, 1 branch in Nashville , and 1 branch in Ann Arbor.
Taco Mahal – Secret food stop

The next stop on our Greenwich Village Food Tour was the “Secret Stop” and while you might think that I’m ruining the surprise for your NYC food tour, the “Secret Stop” changes regularly, so you’re not guaranteed to pay a visit to Taco Mahal!
If you do happen to visit Taco Mahal on your food tour of Greenwich Village, however, then lucky you, because this was probably my favourite spot of the entire food tour!
The owner of Taco Mahal, Danikkah Josan, has created one of the most fascinating and imaginative restaurants in the West Village, and perhaps even the whole of Manhattan! Taking the culinary influence from her family’s background in Indian cuisine and combining it with her Latina heritage, Danikkah has fashioned a restaurant boasting the most unique and tastiest tacos.

We were lucky enough to try the chicken tikka masala roti taco and when I say this is one of the most delicious and completely unique dishes I’ve ever had, I truly mean it!
I first tried this dish on our food tour in October 2024 and I’m not joking when I say that I’ve thought about it at least once a week since! Taco Mahal has become a firm favourite food spot whenever I’m in NYC now, and I’m so grateful to Secret Food Tours NYC for introducing it to us!
There are currently two Taco Mahal locations in Manhattan, one in the West Village and one in Hell’s Kitchen, and I really wouldn’t be surprised if more branches open up in the future as it’s one of the coolest and most inventive blend of cuisines I’ve seen!
Two Boots Pizza

The penultimate stop on our food tour was Two Boots Pizza, and, like with NY bagels, I thought I’d already experienced many of the city’s top pizza slices, but it turns out I had been missing out on Two Boots Pizza on every single trip to NYC prior!
Upon entering the West Village branch of Two Boots Pizza, our tour guide, Amanda, informed us that the original Two Boots Restaurant in the East Village opened in 1987 and was named after the geographical shapes of Italy and Louisiana, hence the name “Two Boots”.
The founders, Doris Kornish and Phil Hartman were originally indie filmmakers who loved Cajun food and culture and wanted to bring this love and influence to their pizzeria.
The result? Whole pizza pies and individual slices teeming with some of the most original toppings and flavours I’ve ever seen!

We were lucky enough to try “The Marsha”; one of the most iconic pizzas available at Two Boots Pizza, which is named after gay liberation activist, Marsha P. Johnson. The West Village branch of Two Boots is just over the road from The Stonewall Inn; the world-famous gay bar and National Historic Landmark, which was the site of the 1969 riots that launched the gay rights movement.
To celebrate the history of this part of Manhattan, Two Boots create “The Marsha” pizza every single year, and it was such an honour to be able to try it ourselves!
There are currently five locations of Two Boots Pizza in NYC; in the West Village, East Village, Upper West Side, Upper East Side, and Brooklyn, and there’s also a location in New Jersey and Nashville, so if you’re ever in those cities, be sure to check out the Two Boots branches to see how they compare to the New York locations!
Chip City

The sixth and final stop on our Greenwich Village food tour was a place that had been on my New York food bucket list for quite some time; Chip City Cookies.
Specialising in the most decadent and luxurious cookies, Chip City boast a variety of flavours of their famous sweet treats, including the classic chocolate chip, cookies and cream, confetti, peanut butter, blueberry cheesecake, red velvet, triple chocolate, Nutella, and more!

I opted for the classic chocolate chip, while Matt sprung for the cookies and cream variety, and we both agreed that the chocolate chip cookie was the better of the two! I’d definitely love to try more flavours next time I’m in the city, and as there are 8 locations in Manhattan and 3 in Brooklyn (as well as several branches in the Bronx, Queens, and Long Island), I don’t think I’ll have a hard time trying more flavours!

The tour lasts for around 3 hours and there is a decent amount of walking involved between each stop, so I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes for the tour.
