When it comes to cosy autumn date ideas, I’d like to think I’m somewhat of a professional.

Autumn is the perfect time to indulge in some quality time with your partner; the darker nights and colder temperatures mean that it’s basically essential to have at least one cosy day/night a week.

Whether you choose to stay at home or head out for an autumnal walk, there are plenty of cosy autumn date ideas to enjoy with your partner!

1. Movie night at home – autumn date ideas

It’s obviously imperative to light all the candles, buy all the snacks and snuggle up with all the blankets while watching a cosy movie or binge-watching your favourite TV show. Bonus points if you order pizza too.

2. Take a romantic stroll in the woods

Autumn is the best time of year to go for walks as the leaves on the trees are so beautiful to admire; the reds, oranges and browns also make the perfect backdrop for taking a few cheeky OOTDs.

While the weather in autumn can sometimes be a little temperamental, if you can manage to avoid the autumnal showers, heading outside for a romantic walk is a perfect way to enjoy a super cosy date in autumn.

3. Visit the cinema and watch all the latest horror movie releases

I can safely say that this is not something Matt and I will be doing (although he really wants me to go and see IT so we’ll see…) because I literally hate horror movies. However, if horror and gore are yours and your partner’s thing then the cinema is the perfect place for an autumn date night as you can cuddle up together and hide behind your popcorn when things get a bit too intense.

Alternatively, stay at home and binge-watch something on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

4. Watch a football match

This is a pretty different one for date night but Matt and I went to watch a football match last year and it was actually awesome. Wrapping up warm, drinking a few delicious ciders and heading to a pub for a hot meal afterwards was a perfect way to spend an evening.

Even if you’re not overwhelmingly bothered about the sport itself, doing something that your significant other enjoys will also make you feel all warm and fuzzy as well.

5. Have a coffee date

After working at Starbucks for six months in between leaving school and starting my first official job, I’m pretty sure I had my fair share of PSL to last me a lifetime, but a cosy coffee date sipping some delicious warm drinks is the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Starbucks would usually be my recommendation for coffee, but I much prefer the hot chocolates on offer at Costa Coffee. Better still, find a local coffee shop near you that’s not part of a chain or franchise and experience a truly authentic coffee date in your home city.

6. Attend a bonfire

I know I’ve said it countless times before but I really can’t convey just how much I adore this time of year and Bonfire Night is one of my favourite dates of the year.

Toasting marshmallows, eating toffee apples and twirling sparklers all while watching the fireworks is literally one of the best autumn date ideas in the UK.

7. Carve pumpkins – autumn date ideas UK

I think this one is pretty much a given but carving pumpkins together can be incredibly romantic, albeit slightly messy. You could even save the insides and make a yummy pumpkin-flavoured treat together.

Matt and I have made it a yearly tradition to carve pumpkins together whenever we’re in the UK and even though we might be in our mid-twenties, I’m a firm believer that you’re never too old to carve pumpkins!

8. Make a delicious autumn dish accompanied by some yummy cocktails

Another date night idea that’s perfect for a cosy autumnal weekend at home is making a lovely, warm meal such as a stew or casserole and pairing it with a sumptuous glass of wine.

Light some candles, put some music on and enjoy a gorgeous meal as part of a cosy night in on a cold autumn evening.

9. Take a nap together – autumn date ideas

I don’t really think this one needs much explanation or encouragement because who doesn’t love a long, lazy nap? There have been plenty of Sundays where Matt and I have spent a good few hours just napping together and there’s literally nothing better than when you have no deadlines to meet or any plans for the day.

Go one step further and create a blanket fort in the living room to while away the day in.

10. Build a den and spend the whole day in it

You could kit it out with fairy lights, snacks and board games and you could even bring all your duvets and blankets in and sleep in there! This is probably one of my favourite cosy date ideas!

You’re never too old to build a den and spend the day in it, despite what your parents might say!

11. Go on a ghost walk/tour – autumn date ideas UK

We’re lucky that we have access to the York Dungeons as we live just ten minutes from the city centre and while I’m not necessarily the biggest fan of spookiness or ghost stories, going on a ghost walk or visiting the dungeons is a very quintessential Halloween experience.

I think that this is the perfect idea for a cosy autumn date as it gives you the chance to huddle up together and enjoy all the scary sights.

12. Go Christmas shopping together

While this one might seem a bit premature, going Christmas shopping is the ultimate way to ensure you’re organised for the festivities and you could also treat yourselves to some goodies too!

Matt’s not a huge fan of doing his Christmas shopping in person as he much prefers to order everyone’s gifts online, but I always try and drag him out for at least a couple of hours of shopping with the promise of a delicious meal or a pint at the pub afterwards!

13. Host a couples-only dinner party

Although this won’t give you the chance to spend some quality one-on-one time with your partner, it will give you the opportunity to catch up with all of your friends and enjoy an evening of eating, drinking and discussing each other’s love lives.

A Come Dine With Me-style dinner party could also be tremendously fun, as long as you don’t get too competitive!

14. Have a cheese and wine date night

Create your own at-home cheese and charcuterie board and pair it with a bottle (or two!) of your favourite wine.

Set up the dining table as if you were in a fancy restaurant or just park yourself on the sofa with all your cheesy goodies!

15. Visit a brewery – cosy autumn date ideas UK

A visit to a local brewery or cidery is a great autumn date idea as it gives you the chance to get out of the house but still spend an afternoon or evening in a cosy, warm place.

You might even want to pick up some beer or cider to take home with you, which means you can extend the date even longer!

16. Go to a haunted house

Attending a haunted house is a perfect October date night idea, especially if you’re a fan of the supernatural!

It will really get you into the seasonal spirit and it’s sure to make you laugh, even if it is scary!

17. Go stargazing – cosy autumn date ideas UK

The autumn months are arguably the best time of year to go stargazing, but as it’s usually pretty cold, it’s not really something that many people want to do.

If you can wrap up super warm and pack a flask full of tea or hot chocolate, stargazing can be the perfect autumn date night idea.

18. Pick your own pumpkins

Carving pumpkins is an awesome date idea for autumn, but you could take it one step further and visit a pumpkin patch to pick your own as well; it’s not just for kids!

19. Have an indoor picnic

While an outdoor picnic in the park is very much off the table at this time of year, an indoor picnic is a perfect substitute for a cosy date in autumn.

Grab all your favourite snacks and treats and set them up on a fluffy blanket in your living room; it’s super simple but so effective at creating a cosy space for date night!

20. Spend an afternoon baking

Baking isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (it’s certainly not my idea of fun!), but many people thoroughly enjoy the process of baking something from scratch, and if you’re a couple that enjoys spending time together in the kitchen, an afternoon of baking could be your perfect cosy autumn date idea!
