Overall best hotel to stay in New York for Christmas
The Plaza Hotel is the epitome of Christmas in New York as it’s most notably famous for being the hotel that Kevin McAllister stays at in Home Alone 2.
As a result, The Plaza offers one of the best New York hotel Christmas packages, including a “Suitest Season of All” offer where you can enjoy festive amenities, including a 7ft Christmas tree in your room.
The Plaza also offers their signature “Home Alone experience”, which includes a limousine ride around the city visiting numerous filming locations from the movie, a large cheese pizza, and a decadent sundae (with a whopping 16 scoops of ice cream with assorted toppings and sauces)!
2. DoubleTree by Hilton New York Midtown Fifth Ave (4*)

While “affordable” and “Christmas in New York” don’t usually belong in the same sentence, there are a few hotels in NYC at Christmas that don’t absolutely break the bank; one of them being DoubleTree by Hilton New York Midtown Fifth Ave.
It’s certainly not as lavish or as luxurious as the likes of The Langham or The Peninsula, for example, but it is clean, comfortable, and convenient, and is arguably the best place to stay for Christmas in New York on a budget.
The hotel is also just two blocks from the Rockefeller Center and Saks Fifth Avenue, and half a block from Radio City Music Hall, making it a prime location for exploring the city’s best Christmas sights and attractions.
3. The Knickerbocker Hotel (5*)

Most notably famous for being a fantastic hotel to stay in over New Year in NYC, The Knickerbocker Hotel is also one of the best hotels for Christmas in New York thanks to its location in the heart of Times Square.
This means that it’s also less than a 5-minute walk to Bryant Park, less than a 10-minute walk to the Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall, and less than a 15-minute walk to Macy’s and the Empire State Building.
While The Knickerbocker Hotel doesn’t have any dedicated Christmas packages, they do have their very own rooftop bar (St. Cloud Rooftop) which offers incredible views of Times Square, so while it might not be quite as Christmassy as some other NYC Christmas hotels featured in this guide, it does still offer incredible amenities.
4. Lotte New York Palace (5*)

Lotte New York Palace is one of the best NYC hotels for families at Christmas thanks to the Palace Holiday Suites, which feature luxurious accommodation, spectacular holiday décor (including in-room Christmas trees, handmade ornaments, and festive accessories), homemade holiday cookies on arrival, and a Palace ornament as a memento of your stay at the hotel.
The hotel also features its very own ornately decorated Christmas tree outside the entrance, which is undoubtedly one of the best Christmas trees in New York.
If you’re travelling with teenagers (or indeed, adults!) who are fans of the TV show Gossip Girl, a stay at Lotte New York Palace is an absolute must as the hotel was used as the exterior filming location for the Van der Woodsens’ residence!
5. The Bryant Park Hotel (4*)

As its name suggests, The Bryant Park Hotel is located directly opposite Bryant Park itself, making this a fantastic place to stay if you want to be right in the heart of the festive action of the city.
The Bryant Park Winter Village is my personal favourite Christmas market in NYC, home to dozens of holiday stalls, festive food and drink stands, and a giant 17,000 square foot ice skating rink!
If you’re wondering where to stay in New York in December, the Bryant Park Hotel should definitely be a strong contender thanks to its excellent location, elegant and stylish rooms, and multiple on-site dining options.
6. Omni Berkshire Place (4*)

If there’s just one thing to see during New York at Christmas, it simply has to be the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, and if you want to stay as close to this emblematic holiday icon as possible, be sure to book a stay at Omni Berkshire Place, which is less than 350m from the Rockefeller Center.
Omni Berkshire Place also boasts a stunning Christmas tree in the lobby of the hotel, and they even have their very own Christmas-themed pop-up bar named Blitzen’s, where you can enjoy exquisite décor, twinkling holiday lights, and signature festive-themed cocktails.
