Located in the quiet village of Milton Damerel, Woodford Bridge Country Club is a beautiful place to stay in Devon if you’re looking for awesome self-catered accommodation with plenty of on-site amenities and facilities.
We booked our six-night stay at Woodford Bridge just two nights in advance and thanks to our Level 3 Genius status on Booking.com, we paid just £252 for six nights, which is incredible value for money for this picturesque place.
It’s a six-hour drive from our hometown of York all the way down to Milton Damerel in Devon, but it was well worth the journey for this wonderful mini-break.
In my ultimate guide below, I’m sharing everything you need to know about Woodford Bridge Country Club, including a thorough review of the on-site Feather & Hide restaurant, all the facilities you can find in the leisure centre, plus plenty of adorable pictures of the peacocks that roam the land at Woodford Bridge!

Accommodation at Woodford Bridge Country Club
There are several accommodation types at Woodford Bridge, including 1-bedroom rooms with private bathrooms inside the main hotel part of the complex, one-bedroom apartments, one-bedroom lodges and two-bedroom lodges. We originally booked a one-bedroom apartment, but when we checked in, the awesome staff very kindly upgraded us to a one-bedroom lodge.
Prices start at around £50 a night, but if you book via Booking.com (especially if you have the Level 3 Genius status like we do), you can get rooms for as little as £40 a night which is well worth the money in my opinion!
We didn’t go inside any of the other accommodations at Woodford Bridge, so I can’t comment on their interiors, but if they’re anything like our fantastic one-bedroom lodge, I’m sure they’ll be incredible!
1-bedroom lodge

As I mentioned above, we originally booked and paid for a one-bedroom apartment on Booking.com and we paid £252 for six nights (this was with the 10% Genius discount, plus a mobile booking discount as well).
Upon check-in (which we were very gratefully able to do at 10 PM as we arrived so late), we were kindly upgraded to a one-bedroom lodge/house which made us even more appreciative of the incredible value for money that we got!
Our one-bedroom lodge was much bigger than I expected! It had a sizeable kitchen with all the cooking amenities we could have ever needed, plus a giant living room/dining area with two sofas, a 4-person dining table, a huge storage cupboard and a wall-mounted TV.

Upstairs, the bedroom was pretty huge and the bed was insanely comfortable. There was also a desk, another wall-mounted TV and a giant wardrobe with plenty of storage space.
As we visited Woodford Bridge Country Club at the end of January, we were super grateful for the three heaters featured throughout the property, as well as for the electric fireplace heater that let out so much warmth!
The bathroom had a separate bath and shower, as well as a great sink area with plenty of space for all our belongings.
I was so impressed with the size of the lodge and just how spacious it was; it felt super homely and cosy and it was the perfect place for a little winter retreat!

Amenities at Woodford Bridge Country Club
Woodford Bridge Country Club isn’t an enormous complex, but it has plenty of on-site facilities and amenities to make your stay as convenient and as enjoyable as possible, including an amazing restaurant (Feather & Hide), a leisure centre with a swimming pool, sauna, gym, table tennis/squash/ping pong facilities, a children’s playground, a gift shop/deli and more!
Woodford Bridge Country Club restaurant

The on-site Feather & Hide restaurant at Woodford Bridge Country Club is located inside the main building of the complex where numerous standard double rooms are. You don’t have to be a guest at Woodford Bridge to dine at the restaurant, but if you are staying there for a few days, I would highly recommend booking dinner at Feather & Hide one evening.
The menu at the restaurant was vast and extensive when we visited in January 2023 and included dishes such as homemade pizzas, steak, gammon, pie, fish and more.
I went for the duck ragu pasta dish which was absolutely phenomenal. I very rarely order duck so I didn’t really know what to expect, but this completely exceeded my expectations and then some! If this is still on the menu when you visit the Feather & Hide restaurant, I would highly recommend ordering it!
Matt had the venison haunch which tasted like a superbly delicious steak! The accompanying peppercorn sauce was also the best I’ve ever had and the sides of chips and onion rings complemented everything beautifully.
We shared the homemade chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert and this was also a truly award-winning dish!
It’s recommended to book a reservation in advance for the Feather & Hide restaurant as it’s a very small dining area with very limited seating, but it’s 100% worth it as the food is some of the best we’ve had in a very long time!
Swimming pool/Sauna

Inside the leisure centre, you’ll find an indoor swimming pool with different depths, making it perfect for both children and adults.
Upon check-in at Woodford Bridge, you’ll be asked to book a timeslot for when you want to go swimming each day. You can usually call the leisure centre reception on the day of your intended visit and ask for your required timeslot.
Gym

I’m really not the gym type at all, but as access to all the leisure facilities was included as part of our stay at Woodford Bridge, I decided to frequent the gym on three occasions during our six-day stay!
I only used the cross-trainer machine for 20 minutes each time, but it felt brilliant to move my body and it was especially enjoyable as it was so quiet during our visit in January!
Gift shop/deli

The on-site gift shop/deli is located next door to the leisure centre, so you really can’t miss it! It doesn’t sell a tonne of food items, but you will find local produce such as butter, bread, eggs, bacon, sausages, steak and an assortment of alcoholic beverages.
As it’s the only “shop” within the immediate vicinity of Woodford Bridge, it might be a good idea to stock up on essential food items before you arrive, but it’s super handy to know that the shop is there if you need anything!
Peacocks

While the peacocks that call Woodford Bridge their home aren’t technically included in the price of your stay, you will be lucky enough to spot some of these beautiful resident creatures during your time at the country club!
We saw over a dozen peacocks at one time while we were at Woodford Bridge as they were constantly roaming the grounds looking for food. They are such gorgeous birds and while we tried not to get too close or disturb them too much anyway, we found them to be incredibly friendly, especially when they could sense that there was food around!

Things to do near Woodford Bridge Country Club

I’ve already mentioned the fact that Woodford Bridge Country Club is located in a remote village in the middle of the Devon countryside, but there is still plenty to see and do within relatively close proximity.
We took a day trip to the coast while we were there, stopping first in Harland Quay to visit Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall (pictured above) and then we drove to Westward Ho! (the place name literally has an exclamation point!) for a walk along the beach and some fish and chips (pictured below).

There are also several other attractions and activities to enjoy within a 30-minute drive from Woodford Bridge, including:
- The Clovelly Waterfall
- The Milky Way Adventure Park
- The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden
- Blackchurch Rock
- Peppercombe Beach
Top tips for visiting Woodford Bridge Country Club

I’ve included some useful tips for visiting Woodford Bridge below that will hopefully make your visit more convenient and comfortable!
- While it’s a pretty remote place to stay, there are still a few supermarkets near Woodford Bridge, including Waitrose in Holsworthy (a 15-minute drive), Lidl in Bude (a 15-minute drive) and Sainsbury’s in Bude (a 30-minute drive).
- Remember to book a reservation at the Feather & Hide restaurant in advance as it gets booked up quickly with guests and locals.
- The on-site deli shop is open every day until 5 PM (4 PM on some days).
- There are no breakfast facilities on-site, so you’ll have to bring your own food from home, buy groceries from the nearby supermarkets or pay a visit to the deli shop to grab some food!
- The Devon coast is approximately half an hour’s drive away and it’s worth a little seaside trip while you’re staying in Milton Damerel as the coastal scenery in that part of the UK is truly beautiful.
