1. Rockefeller Center – the most famous Christmas Tree in New York

Of course, I had to start with New York’s most famous Christmas tree and arguably in the whole world; the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.
This world-renowned Christmas tree resides at the Rockefeller Center in midtown Manhattan and has been a holiday beacon in the city for almost 90 years. The Rockefeller Center Tree is the biggest Christmas tree in New York, but each year, the tree varies slightly in where it’s from and its size and shape. However, each year’s tree looks just as impressive as its predecessor and you’d be hard-pressed not to tear up when you see it for the first time!
The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Rockefeller Center is also one of the best bucket list things to do in New York City.
I still remember seeing the tree for the first time in December 2018 and I couldn’t believe just how spectacular it was in real life after seeing it in so many photos over the years. During our one month in New York over Christmas in 2021, we visited the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree on many occasions and every time I saw it, I was flooded with emotion all over again.
2021’s Rockefeller Christmas tree was approximately 85 years old and was a mightily impressive 79ft tall Norway Spruce, weighing a whopping 12 tons. Decorated in more than 50,000 lights, this tree is undoubtedly the number one Christmas tree in New York City and is definitely something you need to have on your NYC Christmas bucket list.
Where to find it: 45 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY 10111.
The 2025 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be lit on Wednesday 3rd December 2025 and will stay up until the second week of January 2026.

2. Seaport – best Christmas trees in NYC

I’d never even heard of the Seaport Christmas tree before our trip to New York at Christmas, but after doing some research about the best things to do in New York at Christmas, I stumbled across some pictures of this magnificent tree and knew that I wanted to see it immediately!
It’s actually much bigger than I expected and it was probably my favourite Christmas tree in New York after the Rockefeller tree. I don’t know if it was because of Covid or just because we saw it in the middle of the day on a weekday, but the Seaport Christmas tree and the surrounding area was remarkably quiet and unlike the Rockefeller Center tree, we didn’t have to barge our way through the crowds to take a picture!
The Seaport tree is located just minutes away from the start of the Brooklyn Bridge, so it’s a great place to check out if you’re heading in that direction anyway.
Where to find it: 28-20 Fulton St, New York, NY 10038.

3. One Beacon Court

One Beacon Court is yet another one of New York’s iconic Christmas trees and one that you should definitely have on your list of places to check out.
It’s incredibly tall and sits proudly in the outdoor lobby area of One Beacon Court and it can’t be missed as you approach the front of the building!
I’d heard that this Christmas tree tends to get pretty busy with people trying to take pictures in front of it, but again, we were pretty lucky that there was absolutely no one around when we went to see it!
Where to find it: 731 Lexington Avenue, 151 E 58th St, New York, NY 10022.
4. Washington Square Park

Washington Square Park is one of my favourite parks in the whole of Manhattan but December 2021 marked the first year that I saw its Christmas tree.
In the daytime, it’s pretty underwhelming, especially as they seem to trim the branches quite regularly, but it looks beautiful at night when you see it next to the towering arch and even though it’s not my favourite NYC Christmas tree, I’d still recommend going to see it.
Where to find it: Washington Square Arch, New York, NY 10012.

5. The Plaza Hotel

I was beyond gutted when we arrived in New York in December 2021 to discover that my beloved Plaza Hotel had closed its doors to the general public due to Covid over the holidays and was only allowing patrons of the hotel to go inside as it’s probably my favourite hotel in the world (even though I’ve never actually stayed there. Yet!).
I have been inside The Plaza Hotel over the Christmas period in previous years, however, and the hotel lobby’s Christmas tree is famous all over New York and beyond. Despite being enormous, it still feels very homely and it’s undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Christmas trees in the city – when it’s open!
Where to find it: The Plaza Hotel Lobby, Central Park South, 768 5th Ave, New York, NY 10019.

6. Brookfield Place – best Christmas trees in New York

Brookfield Place was another new find for me during my one month in New York and I’m so glad we decided to visit this remarkable shopping centre as it was home to many Christmas trees inside the mall.
Each one was slightly different, but all the trees were just as beautiful as each other and it’s lovely to just walk around inside the shopping mall and discover your favourites.
Brookfield Place also has an outdoor skating rink with beautiful views over the Hudson River; be sure to time your visit around sunset for truly magical views!
Where to find it: 230 Vesey St, New York, NY 10281.
7. 1251 Avenue of the Americas

You’ll have likely seen the giant red baubles and various other Christmas decorations around 1251 Avenue of the Americas, but be sure to check out the gorgeous Christmas tree as well.
This whole area of midtown Manhattan is the best place to be over the holidays, so just keep your eyes peeled to spot as many wonderful trees, lights and decorations as possible while you’re there.
Where to find it: 1251 Avenue of the Americas, 6th Avenue between West 49th and West 50th streets.
8. Bryant Park – Bank of America Winter Village

I was actually a little disappointed by Bryant Park’s Christmas tree on my recent visit to New York over the festive period as it looked a little sparse, so while the tree itself wasn’t mind-blowing, the Bryant Park Bank of America Winter Village is definitely worth your time while in the city.
The tree also looks much better at night, so make sure to visit Bryant Park (next to the New York Public Library) both during the day and at night to experience the best of both worlds.
Where to find it: 42nd Street and, 6th Ave, New York, NY 10018.

9. Zuccotti Park

I absolutely loved the many Christmas trees and the normal trees in the park that were decorated with stunning fairy lights in Zuccotti Park.
While the Christmas trees themselves aren’t exactly revolutionary, there are plenty of them in Zuccotti Park to enjoy and take pictures of/in front of, so this is a place in Downtown Manhattan that you need to add to your NYC Christmas trees bucket list!
Where to find it: Financial District, New York, NY 10006, between Liberty Street and Cedar Street and Broadway and Trinity Place.

10. New York Stock Exchange

The New York Stock Exchange Christmas Tree is another iconic spot in the city over the holidays. It’s a gargantuan tree that sits atop a pedestal right outside the NYSE building and it’s great to see both during the day and at night.
Add it to your itinerary while you’re exploring the Financial District and ensure you’re equipped with your camera to snap plenty of pictures!
Where to find it: New York Stock Exchange, Broad Street.

11. Hudson Yards – best Christmas trees in NYC

Hudson Yards was another new discovery for me on my recent festive trip to New York City and even though I’d heard and read plenty of things about it, I was still very much impressed when I saw it myself for the first time.
Inside the Hudson Yards shopping centre, you’ll find plenty of beautiful Christmas decorations all around the mall and the festivities continue outside with many miniature Christmas trees and unusual decorations and lights such as giant light-up hot air balloons.
Where to find it: Between 10th and 12th Avenues and West 30th to West 34th Streets.

12. 7 World Trade Center lobby

Unfortunately, I don’t think you can actually go inside the lobby of 7 World Trade Center but as we were exploring the area, I noticed this gorgeous, giant tree through the enormous windows, so naturally, I had to go over and take a picture as it looked so lovely!
I imagine that it will be the same every year, so keep an eye out as you’re wandering around the area (it’s not too far from the National 9/11 Memorial and Brookfield Place).
Where to find it: 7 World Trade Center Lobby, 250 Greenwich St, New York, NY 10006.

13. Empire State Building lobby

The Christmas tree inside the Empire State Building lobby isn’t actually all that impressive as it’s pretty small but despite it being my fifth time in the city, I’d never been inside the Empire State Building before!
While the Christmas tree might not exactly blow you away, I’d still recommend heading inside the lobby to check it out and just to have an excuse to go inside the building itself anyway.
Where to find it: Empire State Building Lobby, 20 W 34th St, New York, NY 10001.

14. StuyTown – best Christmas trees in New York

During our one month in the city, we were staying in the East Village, pretty much just across the block from StuyTown, so we’d regularly walk through StuyTown and Peter Cooper Village on our way up to midtown and I was delighted to see that there was a huge Christmas tree in the middle of the lawn.
It’s a pretty huge tree and even though we didn’t see the tree at night, it still looked pretty remarkable during the day, so I’d recommend seeing it at some point during your Christmas trip to New York.
Where to find it: StuyTown and Peter Cooper Village.

15. Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown

The Four Seasons Hotel in Downtown Manhattan was a Christmas tree in New York that I’d read about in several blog posts, so I knew that I wanted to check it out myself while we were in the city.
Similarly to The Plaza Hotel, you couldn’t go inside the Four Seasons Hotel unless you were staying there during the pandemic, so I only managed to see the tree through the windows which probably made it a little less exciting.
If you’re heading to New York over Christmas and you want to see as many Christmas trees as possible while you’re in the city, then I’d still recommend adding it to your list, but just know that it’s probably not going to be the best one you see!
Where to find it: Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown Lobby, 27 Barclay St, New York, NY 10007.
16. Roosevelt Island

I’d never been to Roosevelt Island before our 2021 Christmas trip to New York City, so we decided to take the Roosevelt Island Tramway over to the island ($2.75 each way – the same as a subway ride) and as we arrived just after sunset, we saw the island’s main Christmas tree on the Riverwalk Commons beautifully lit up just as it was getting dark.
As well as the tree itself, there were also lovely light-up presents and decorations around the Christmas tree which made it so fun and colourful; it’s definitely one to spot if you head over to Roosevelt Island.
Where to find it: Roosevelt Island Riverwalk Commons, Unnamed Road, New York, NY 10044.
17. Madison Square Park – best Christmas trees in NYC

The Madison Square Park Christmas Tree is another must-see in the city.
It definitely looks much more impressive at night (just as most Christmas trees do!), but regardless of when you see the Christmas tree in Madison Square Park, you’re still sure to enjoy the festiveness of it all.
Where to find it: 11 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10010.

18. Radio City Music Hall

The Radio City Music Hall “Christmas tree” isn’t technically an actual Christmas tree as it’s just loads of lights on the side of the Music Hall building, but it’s still incredibly festive and beautiful so you should definitely pay it a visit.
Radio City Music Hall is also just around the corner from the Rockefeller Center, so it’s worth seeing while you’re in the area; you’re sure to have a truly magical night in this area of midtown over the holidays (especially if you watch the Saks Holiday Lights display too!).
Where to find it: 1260 6th Ave, New York, NY 10020.
19. Southbridge Plaza

The Christmas tree at Southbridge Plaza was a very random find for us as we were literally just walking around the area when I saw it outside the apartment building complex.
It’s not necessarily one of the best New York City Christmas trees that I’d suggest going out of your way to see as it’s not as spectacular as many of the other trees on this list, but if you’re near the Brooklyn Bridge or Seaport anyway, you should go over and have a little nosey.
Where to find it: Southbridge Plaza, 80 Beekman St, New York, NY 10038 – next to Squire’s Diner.
20. Charging Bull Statue – best Christmas trees in NYC

Despite the New York Stock Exchange Christmas tree just being around the corner, the Charging Bull Statue also has its very own tree that’s worth a little visit.
It’s not quite as grand or imposing as the NYSE’s offering, but it still looks very cool, especially next to the famous Wall Street statue.
Where to find it: Bowling Green, between Broadway and Morris Street.
