Venice is one of the number one cities in Europe that’s on so many people’s bucket lists; and rightly so, it’s absolutely beautiful!

With its charming canals, hundreds of adorable bridges and of course, as much indulgent Italian food as you can imagine! When we spent 3 days in Venice a few years ago, I fell head over heels in love with this charming, albeit crowded, Italian city and I would love to return one day!

If you’re thinking of planning a trip to Venice, here’s my ultimate 3 days in Venice itinerary to help you out!

3 day Venice itinerary – where to stay

During our 3 days in Venice, we stayed in an adorable boutique hotel called Hotel Castello. While it wasn’t anything super fancy (although it was home to the smallest bathtub in the world!), it was a really cute and super conveniently located hotel right in the heart of Venice, just a stone’s throw from the infamous Piazza San Marco.

Best things to do in 3 days in Venice – summary

  • Rialto Bridge
  • Gondola Ride
  • Day trip to Burano/Murano
  • See St Mark’s Square/Basilica
  • Visit Doge’s Palace
  • The Bridge of Sighs
  • Peggy Guggenheim Collection
  • Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute
  • Teatro la Fenice
  • St Mark’s Campanile
  • Leonardo da Vinci Museum

After walking around for hours we headed back to our hotel to freshen up and then we sat outside on the terrace and had a few drinks and played cards for a little while before dinner (we actually ended up doing this most nights as it was so lush up there).

For dinner, we ate at the most wonderful restaurant called Rossopomodoro where I ate THE most amazing lasagne I’ve ever had. I honestly couldn’t recommend this place enough; if you ever go to Venice then you absolutely MUST go to this place!

Wednesday

On Wednesday we did an insane amount of walking and saw a whole lot of historical buildings, canals and bridges. We visited the Santa Maria della Salute, and the Venetian Arsenal and we enjoyed the most beautiful walk along the seafront.

We also went to the Leonardo da Vinci Museum which was so incredibly interesting, and was only €5 to get in with a student card!

For dinner, we went to the most incredible Chinese Restaurant called Jade Garden. I had the most delicious lemon chicken and chicken fried rice I’ve ever had. I couldn’t recommend this place enough; both the food and the prosecco were genuinely some of the nicest I’ve ever had!

Thursday

Thursday was a much more relaxed day, in that we didn’t do quite as much walking. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll around, visiting more beautiful churches and basilicas, and we also took an obligatory Gondola ride! It was €80 for half an hour which is pretty damn pricey but definitely worth it I think!

The Gondola ride was probably one of my favourite things that we did in Venice, we saw the Rialto Bridge and cruised down charming canals, all the while taking in the breathtaking scenes of Venice.

We decided to have dinner on the seafront and we ate at a lovely restaurant called Ristorante Pizzeria da Alvise. Although my steak was yummy, and Matt thoroughly enjoyed his seafood platter, I have to say that the service wasn’t the best at this place.

For a start, Matt’s mum’s dinner didn’t even turn up, and after we’d asked several different waiters numerous times where the meal was, we still didn’t receive it! Yep, Matt’s mum literally didn’t eat that night! Despite that, we did have a nice time sitting by the sea drinking prosecco and enjoying the view.

Venice is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and it’s definitely worth visiting while you’re in Italy!
