Is Hanoi Train Street open again?
After the Hanoi train street accident in 2022, Train Street Hanoi is officially open again after closures in previous years due to safety concerns. Going down Train Street is more strictly controlled now, so if you’re wondering if Hanoi Train Streets is dangerous, you will likely be told by the security guards on each entrance whether it is OK for you to go down or not.

Where is Hanoi Train Street? Hanoi Train Station

Hanoi Train Street is located just on the outskirts of the Old Quarter of Hanoi. The best location to enter Train Street is under the aptly named Google Maps address “Hanoi Train Street” on Tran Phu Street.
The best place to see Hanoi Train Street is between 3 P. Trần Phú, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội 100000 and 8d Điện Biên Phủ, Cửa Nam, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội. I’ve included the links to the exact coordinates in each address above and you can also see the exact area that it covers in the map above/below.
The interactive map below shows you the exact location of Train Street Hanoi, from 28 Train Street to the entrance next to Điện Biên Phủ road. It’s best to enter Train Street from either of the coordinates listed above, but you can also enter where it says “Train Street free entrance“, but we had better luck entering at “Hanoi Train Street“.

Hanoi Train Street schedule – what time do trains go through?

We spent an entire month living directly above Train Street in Hanoi at Wecozy Railway Side, which meant that I kept a diary of almost every single train that went past and while there is a typical schedule that they seem to follow, they do vary slightly day by day. Sometimes they’re delayed by over 30 minutes and sometimes they never come at all!
I’ve included an extensive breakdown of the Hanoi Train Street schedule below which is based on the trains that we saw from our apartment in Hanoi during the course of one month, as well as the actual schedule that the trains are supposed to follow. These times are subject to change depending on the time of year that you visit Train Street and they may also vary based on delays at other train stations in Hanoi and beyond.

As we literally lived directly above Train Street in Hanoi (as you can see from the picture above from our apartment window!), we saw/heard trains all throughout the day/night, even the ones throughout the middle of the night!
You can head to my Instagram to see videos of the views we had of Train Street every single day for a month!
Hanoi Train Street schedule train times 2025
- Monday – Friday: 7 PM, 7.45 PM, 8.30 PM, 9.30 PM 10 PM.
- Saturday – Sunday: 8.30 AM, 9.30 AM, 11.30 AM, 3.30 PM, 5.30 PM, 6 PM, 7 PM, 7.45 PM, 8.30 PM, 9 PM, 11 PM.
As we stayed directly above Train Street for an entire month, we also saw the trains go past numerous times in the mornings on a weekday, but they usually only allow tourists to go down on an evening in the week.
On a weekend, we also noticed the trains going past at 12.30 AM, 4 AM and 6 AM which was not the most enjoyable experience while we were sleeping, especially in the first few days, but we soon got used to hearing the trains go past at all hours of the day after a month of staying directly above Train Street Hanoi!
I’ve already mentioned this numerous times, but the Hanoi Train Street schedule is subject to change throughout the year, so it’s important to keep this mind when visiting. However, if you visit in the evening on a Saturday or Sunday (from around 5 PM), you’re more than likely to see at least one or two trains go past!

When is the best time to visit Train Street Hanoi?
If you want to see the trains thundering past you up close, then the best time to visit Hanoi Train Street is on a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from 5 PM onwards. While this is the busiest time to see Train Street in Hanoi, it also gives you the best chance to see multiple trains in a short space of time and if you stay long enough, you’ll also be able to see Train Street while it’s still daylight, as well as during the dark which makes for an even more exciting experience!
However, if you’re not too bothered about seeing a train go past, I’d recommend visiting on a morning/early afternoon to see the local life going on down Train Street, as well as to enjoy a coffee/drink from a Train Street cafe without all the crowds.
Best cafes/shops to visit along Hanoi Train Street

Most of the cafes/coffee shops on Train Street are super local places and many of them only opened in the last couple of years.
It’s worth noting that if you visit Train Street Hanoi at peak times (such as Saturday and Sunday evenings), you likely won’t have the choice of which cafe you go to as local owners will just come to the entrances and take you down to their shop.
However, if you visit Train Street when the trains are not scheduled to go past, you can enjoy a more leisurely experience and choose which cafes/coffee shops you want to visit.
Some of the most notable coffee shops on Train Street include:
- Coffee 74 Train Street
- Railway Cafe
- Tram Cafe

Top tips for visiting Train Street

- If you want to enjoy a super cool experience of seeing Train Street, stay at Wecozy Hanoi for the best view of Train Street! Our apartment at Wecozy was on the 7th floor and looked directly down on Train Street (as you can see from the pictures above). If you want to stay somewhere truly unique in Hanoi and get an excellent view of Train Street from above, I’d highly recommend staying at Wecozy!
- When you try to enter Train Street at any of the entrance points, you will likely experience quite a bit of hecticness of people trying to rush in and local cafe owners trying to get you to eat/drink at their establishment. When the train is due to go past, this is the only way that you can go down Train Street; local cafe owners will take you to their cafe and you will get a seat outside right next to the train tracks!
- It goes without saying, but be sure to bring your camera to snap lots of pictures of this truly unique and surreal experience!
- Keep the rest of your belongings to a minimum! It’s hard to comprehend just how close the train comes to you, regardless of whether you’re sitting or standing, so it’s important to have as few belongings as possible when visiting Train Street so that you don’t get in the way of the train!
- For the best chance of being allowed to go down Train Street, try and get there around 15-20 minutes before the train is due to pass through. The security guards on each entrance have become quite strict about the number of people that can go down at a time when the train comes past (and rightly so!), so in order to ensure that you’re on the actual street for when the train comes, try and arrive a little earlier than the scheduled Train Street times.
- As long as you keep buying drinks from the cafes/coffee shops on Train Street, there is no limit to the amount of time you can spend down there. I’d recommend seeing at least one train, but if you get a good spot on a Saturday or Sunday evening, you might be able to see 2-3 trains if you’re willing to stay long enough!
- You’ll have to pay in cash when getting a drink at any of the cafes on Train Street; a beer usually costs around 40,000 VND (£1.36 / $1.64), a lemon juice costs around 40,000 VND (£1.36 / $1.64) and a coconut costs around 60,000 VND (£2.04 / $2.46), however, these prices will differ between each cafe.
- You’ll see so many people trying to get the perfect Instagram pose on the train tracks and while this is perfectly fine to do when the train isn’t going past, it’s imperative to remember just how dangerous it is to be on Train Street when the trains go past! I really can’t stress enough just how close the trains get to you as the street is so incredibly narrow; you really do need to be paying attention and stand as far back from the tracks as physically possible!
Conclusion
The famous Train Street Hanoi is one of the coolest and most surreal experiences you can have in Hanoi! If you follow all the tips featured throughout this travel guide, you’re sure to have an awesome and truly unique experience of seeing Train Street!
