Farne Lodge, Beadnell - The Best Places To Stay In Northumberland

If you’ve been following along with any of my Northumberland content so far, you’ll know that we spent six days across two different trips in the beautiful county and we stayed in a different place each time. I’ve already written about our wonderful stay at Doxford Barns Farmhouse Lodge from our first trip to Northumberland, and today I’ll be talking all about Farne Lodge, Beadnell which is where we stayed on our second trip up north.

Farne Lodge, Beadnell is, you guessed it, located in the quaint seaside town of Beadnell, just 25-minutes north of Alnwick and 10-minutes south of Bamburgh, so it’s in an awesome location for exploring so many places in Northumberland.

If you’re looking for a great place to stay in Northumberland that’s both incredibly conveniently located and relatively affordable (especially compared to some of its competitors’ offerings of accommodation in the area!), check out my review of Farne Lodge, Beadnell!

We booked our stay at Farne Lodge just three days before we were due to stay there, and considering our booking was for Bank Holiday Monday and there were very limited options available in the location that we wanted, I’d say that we were pretty lucky to get our booking at all! As it rained pretty much non-stop on our first trip to Northumberland, this time around we’d planned on camping for the two nights/three days that we were going to be there, but after we’d checked the weather forecast a million times on the lead up to our trip, we decided that camping might not be the best option as the weather was due to be pretty shocking again.

Enter Farne Lodge; an adorable little motel-style accommodation facility in the cute seaside town of Beadnell.

We paid £60 a night for two nights at Farne Lodge and while it’s not quite as cheap as the accommodation we were used to in Vietnam, for example (where we’d literally pay £3.50 a night in some places…!), we were happy enough with that price, especially considering how last minute it was.

Unfortunately, as we’d booked so last minute, there were no double rooms available, just twin rooms, which wasn’t mega ideal, but once we’d sat down on those beds, we really couldn’t complain! One of the reviews I read about Farne Lodge on Booking.com was that the beds weren’t that comfortable, but I can safely say that we thought that they were ridiculously comfortable; a factor that’s always incredibly important to me when staying somewhere new, especially after long, busy days of exploring!

The room itself was pretty basic, but it had more than enough homely comforts and amenities to make it a very enjoyable stay. The “TV” was laughably small, but we only really ever watch something on my laptop when we’re away anyway, so the small screen didn’t bother us in the slightest and we actually found it quite comical how small it was!

As well as the TV, the room also had a huge set of drawers which had ample storage and a rail with plenty of coat hanging space, plus a mini-fridge with complimentary water bottles, and a tea and coffee station with plenty of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and hot chocolate sachets.

There were also two heaters in the room; one portable one and one fixed to the wall and despite our trip being towards the end of May, as we live in the UK, we still made use of these as it was pretty cold when we arrived back after a day of exploring Northumberland.

The bathroom doesn’t look the greatest from the picture below, but I think that’s just down to bad lighting as it was absolutely fine and was ideal for what we needed for two nights. The shower wasn’t super powerful, but it was constantly hot and it did the job perfectly for us.

In terms of checking in and out of Farne Lodge, as our stay was during the easing of lockdown in the UK, there were excellent Covid-19 safety measures in place to keep everyone distanced and safe. In fact, we didn’t even see anyone who worked there until the day of our departure when the cleaner was doing the rounds on the rooms of guests who were checking out.

Usually, I like to meet the owners of the accommodation that we’re staying in, but I totally respect the need to keep everyone safe and I thought the safety measures in place at Farne Lodge did an excellent job of doing that.

Upon our arrival at Farne Lodge, the keys to our room were in the door of the room we were staying in and all the guests’ names were written on a chalkboard outside so that everyone could see which room they were in. This was also the protocol that we followed upon checking out of Farne Lodge as we just left our keys in the door.

Overall our stay at Farne Lodge, Beadnell was great and I’d highly recommend it as a place to stay in Northumberland if you’re looking for something simple, clean and best of all, very conveniently located in the county so that you can get out and about and explore just about everything that Northumberland has to offer!
