I am so unbelievably happy that autumn is officially here; it’s my absolute favourite season and I feel like I really thrive during the colder months. In celebration of my love of all things autumnal, I’ve put together my ultimate autumn bucket list!

If you’re in need of some inspiration on the best things to do this autumn, I’ve got just the post for you!

Today’s blog post is all about the ultimate autumn bucket list; picture cosy nights in front of the fire, copious amounts of hot chocolate and every TV series and film imaginable!

The ultimate autumn bucket list UK

1. Enjoy walking through the crisp, orange leaves

As much as the greenery of summer is a truly beautiful sight to see, there’s nothing I love more than when the leaves on the trees turn brilliant shades of orange, brown and red.

Better still, when they start falling to the ground and they get all crunchy, walking through the crisp leaves on a bitter morning is genuinely my idea of heaven!

2. Drink lots of hot chocolate – the ultimate autumn bucket list

I have a strict rule that I can only drink hot chocolate in the colder months (it never feels right drinking it in the sunshine in summer!), so by the time autumn rolls around, I’m more than ready for my first mug of steaming hot chocolate!

I love to try and make my own with melted chocolate and I usually use Terry’s Chocolate Orange which I then pour boiling water over to make it into a thick, delicious hot drink.

3. Read cosy books while cuddled up under a blanket

One thing that you should definitely have on your autumn to-do list for the ultimate cosy afternoon is finally making a start on your to-be-read pile, all while cosied up under a blanket. We’ve had a deliciously soft Teddy blanket for years now and I look forward to using it again every single autumn.

Reading while cuddled up underneath a blanket is one of the best things to do in autumn, especially on a rainy day as it feels utterly magical to escape into another world while the weather outside is miserable.

4. Light lots of candles and turn on twinkly fairy lights

Autumn fairy lights and scented autumn scented candles are one of the best and cosiest things about the entire season!

I love these maple leaf fairy lights as they literally scream autumn and they make any room look ridiculous relaxing and hygge.

5. Wear huge, knitted jumpers – autumn bucket list ideas UK

As much as pretty summer dresses and relaxed shorts and T-shirts are great, I really love when the weather starts to get colder and it’s time to get all my huge, knitted jumpers out of the loft.

I’m definitely someone who loves to be wrapped up all warm and cosy, so thick winter jumpers are essential for me when autumn comes around.

6. Take lots of autumnal pictures

Another fun thing that you should have on your fall bucket list is to head outside with your camera and take lots of cute pictures of all the autumnal colours.

You can combine this activity with going for a walk through all the crunchy, fallen leaves so you’ll get to tick even more things off your autumn bucket list!

7. Celebrate Halloween and dress up

Dressing up at Halloween certainly isn’t to everyone’s taste, but if you’re creating an autumn bucket list full of the best things to do this fall, why not spruce it up and get dressed up for the occasion this year?

You don’t have to go to extravagant lengths with your costume, but it could be fun to even just paint your face in seasonal colours to celebrate the occasion.

8. Enjoy all the pumpkins – autumn bucket list UK

From drinking everything pumpkin spice flavoured to heading to a pumpkin patch to carving your very own pumpkin and saving the pumpkin seeds to eat, there is so much joy to be found in the seasonal squash!

I’m by no means the best at pumpkin carving (in fact, I’m actually pretty terrible), but I’ve always loved doing it ever since I was a kid and I truly think it’s a great autumn activity to enjoy no matter your age!

9. Decorate your bedroom in autumnal colours

When I was a teenager, I absolutely loved spending an afternoon decorating my bedroom with all the autumnal decorations I could find.

Things like fairy lights, cosy cushions, thick blankets and of course, all the beautiful autumnal pictures that you’ve taken on your fall walk all make perfect additions to a relaxing autumnal room.

10. Watch Halloween movies – fun things to do in autumn

I’ve never been a big fan of scary Halloween movies, but I do attempt to watch at least one scary film every autumn.

I usually have to watch the entire film through my fingers or hidden behind a cushion, but watching a Halloween movie is such a quintessential activity in the fall months, that I really try my best to enjoy it!

11. Buy cute winter boots

By the time the cold months arrive, I’m usually more than ready to swap out my flip-flops for a gorgeous pair of winter boots.

If you already have a pair from the previous year, then it’s time to get them out of storage and don them with your best fall outfit!

12. Spend an evening drinking wine and chatting

This is an activity that I can happily enjoy all year round, so it’s definitely not exclusive to the autumn months, but there’s just something extra special and cosy about enjoying a delicious glass of wine while chatting with my mum when autumn rolls around.

Over the last few years, I’ve really gotten into fancy cheese boards which I think is the ultimate autumn bucket list snack, so grab a bottle and a block or five of cheese and set yourself up for the perfect night in!

13. Bake at least one autumnal thing – UK autumn bucket list ideas

Baking definitely isn’t my forte but I try and bake at least one autumn-inspired treat every year.

My go-to autumnal bake is simple “pumpkin” Rice Krispie buns that I dye with orange food colouring and then stick some orange matchmakers on the top for the pumpkin’s stalk. They’re ridiculously easy to make with very minimal effort, but I always have such a good time creating them! Apple pie, pumpkin pie, cinnamon buns and crumbles are also excellent autumnal bakes that you can give a go!

14. Have a Gilmore Girls marathon – fall bucket list ideas

Gilmore Girls is arguably the most quintessential autumn TV show ever made and every single year I try my best to complete the entire series before the Christmas festivities begin.

I still haven’t managed to finish the entire show quite yet; perhaps this autumn will be the year that I finally complete it!

15. Snuggle up with a hot water bottle and listen to the rain

One thing that you definitely need to schedule into your October bucket list is spending a rainy afternoon inside, all snuggled up with a hot water bottle while you listen to it pour down outside.

You can pretty much guarantee that we’ll have many days of rain in autumn in the UK, so I’m sure you’ll get plenty of opportunities to take part in this activity!

16. Paint your nails in lots of autumnal colours

If you’re looking for a super simple and super-easy way to get into the autumnal spirit, painting your nails in suitable fall colours is a surefire way of doing so.

If you’re not a fan of doing your nails yourself, you could always arrange a trip to the nail salon to get your nails done by a professional so that you know they’ll look awesome for the start of autumn.

17. Watch the sunset – UK autumn bucket list ideas

Watching the sunset is one of my favourite things to do at any time of year and it’s actually one of the things listed on my summer bucket list every year, but there’s something about an October sunset that just hits differently.

Head off to the perfect sunset spot, complete with a haul of snacks and enjoy a magical performance from the sky.

18. Watch a firework display – things to do in autumn in the UK

Another fun thing about fall is that it’s also the season of Bonfire Night, so watching a firework display should definitely be on your autumn bucket list!

I actually much prefer Bonfire Night to Halloween and watching an epic firework display, even if it’s just in my local village, is always one of my favourite things to do at this time of year.

19. Enjoy all the cosy TV shows

TV shows like the Great British Bake Off and I’m A Celebrity are synonymous with the cold, autumn months and even though I’m a tremendously bad baker, I always love watching the GBBO when the season rolls around.

The colder and darker nights are a perfect excuse to relax in front of the TV, so it’s a great time to watch all the best cosy TV shows.

20. Eat lots of delicious food – autumn activities at home

Another one of the best things about autumn is eating lots of delicious food.

Think decadent cheese boards, hearty stews and scrumptious pasta dishes that are perfect for this time of year.

21. Take lots of baths with Lush Halloween goodies

I hardly ever get in the bath throughout the summer, so by the time autumn rolls around, I can’t wait to sink into a hot bath complete with festive Halloween bath bombs and assorted skincare essentials from Lush.

It’s the perfect time of year to indulge in a pamper session and it became somewhat of an obsession of mine when I was a teenager to purchase the latest Halloween releases from Lush so that I could try as many as possible!

22. Enjoy lots of cosy date nights – autumn bucket list UK for adults

Autumn date nights are some of the most enjoyable in my opinion and I love heading out in the cold for a romantic walk, cooking together or carving pumpkins as a couple when it’s nearing Halloween.

There are so many awesome autumn date nights you can enjoy as a couple and if you can’t get all cute and cosy together in the fall, when can you?!

23. Drink lots of tea and enjoy the misty mornings – the ultimate autumn bucket list UK

One of the simplest joys of autumn in my opinion is heading outside on a morning, still wearing my fluffiest pyjamas, with a steaming hot cup of tea in hand and enjoying the delights of the misty mornings.

Sure, it might be absolutely freezing cold but that initial frost outside on a morning is dreamy to look at, especially when the leaves on the trees are still splattered with spectacular shades of orange and red.

24. Spend an afternoon catching up with loved ones

Of course, this activity can be done at any time of the year and it doesn’t have to be exclusively saved for your autumn bucket list, but it is a good reminder to schedule some time to catch up with your loved ones.

Whether it’s visiting grandparents for a cuppa or spending the day shopping with your mum, be sure to carve out some time this autumn to enjoy the company of your nearest and dearest.

25. Get a festive drink from Starbucks

The Starbucks festive menu is synonymous with the autumn months as that’s when their seasonal drinks come out.

I worked at Starbucks between September and April when I’d just left the sixth form and while working there took away the novelty of the festive drinks menu for me somewhat, I still always associate this time of year with getting a delicious festive drink from Starbucks.

26. Go shopping for autumn clothes

Clothes shopping is arguably one of my least favourite activities to partake in, apart from when the autumn months hit as this is my favourite time to invest in some new staple pieces for my wardrobe.

I love picking out some new winter boots, a deliciously warm jumper and some fluffy socks to complete my autumn ~look~ and if you’re in need of some warmer clothes ahead of the fall season, I’d urge you to add this activity to your own autumn bucket list.

27. Eat lots of Halloween goodies – autumn bucket list UK

I’m a firm believer that you should be able to enjoy Halloween treats regardless of your age and while you might be too old to go Trick or Treating, that doesn’t stop you from heading to the supermarket yourself to pick up some delicious goodies!

This is also the perfect time to tick off enjoying a cosy night in front of the TV from your autumn bucket list as you now have the perfect reason to combine the two!
