If you’ve been following my blog for at least a year (and thank you so much if you have!), then you might have seen last year’s post about my year in travel photos – 2018 edition.
After an incredible year of travel in 2018, I knew it was going to be tough to beat last year’s travel antics but thanks to our incredible start to our trip around the world, we’ve managed to visit 9 different countries this year!
It’s been an absolute whirlwind of adventures, and it’s been full of so many incredible new experiences, cultures, countries and cuisines.
I can’t wait to see what 2020 holds for us in terms of travel, but for now, here’s my year in travel photos – 2019 edition!
Oslo, Norway – travel photos 2019

Our first trip of 2019 was a few days in the Norwegian capital city of Oslo after we’d purchased insanely cheap flights there in the 2018 winter flight sales, and it was an absolutely magical place to begin our 2019 travels.
Oslo is absolutely beautiful and it’s the perfect place for a winter city break. We ate so much good food while we were there, froze our feet off in the ankle-deep snow and generally just had an amazing time there.
If you can squeeze a trip to Oslo into your 2020 travel plans, I’d highly recommend it! While it’s definitely not the cheapest European city break, it is one that’s worth the money (in my opinion!) and it’s a place that looks beautiful all year round!

Reykjavik, Iceland

Next up in 2019, we headed to Reykjavik in Iceland for a surprise birthday trip for Matt for his 21st.
We stayed in an absolutely beautiful apartment, ate plenty of delicious, albeit expensive, food and we embarked on numerous tours around the country.
We did attempt to see the Northern Lights on our first night in Reykjavik but it was pretty cloudy so we didn’t see them at their very best!
We did however, venture off on a tour around the Golden Circle which was absolutely fantastic, although unbelievably cold!

Malaga, Spain – travel photos 2019

Approximately one month before we embarked on our trip around the world, Matt’s mum took us on a quick weekend break to Malaga, Spain.
It was a lovely sunny break before we headed off to colder climates and it was such a nice few days in the Spanish sun, drinking cocktails and eating all the tapas.
I’ve been to Spain many times before, but I’d never been to Malaga and I’m so glad we managed to squeeze in a last-minute break before we headed off all the way to the other side of the world!

London, England

My actual last “trip” before we left the UK for our long-term trip was to London with my mum in celebration of Mother’s Day.
We spent the full day wandering around the city and shopping in Oxford Street. We also visited Selfridges and cooed over all the beautiful designer shoes, before heading to a gorgeous bar and drinking prosecco all afternoon!
My mum is my best friend and I knew that I was going to miss her terribly once we started travelling so it was so lush to spend some quality time with her before we left.
New Zealand – travel photos 2019

Now it’s time for the mega juicy part of my 2019 travel photos!
Back in April 2019, Matt and I left our home in York and began an indefinitely long trip around the world.
We kicked off our full time travels with 3 months in New Zealand where we spent around 6 weeks in the North Island housesitting for my old next door neighbours from when I lived there in 2011, and around 5 weeks campervanning around the entire South Island.
It’s without a doubt my favourite country in the world and I already can’t wait to head back there one day. We saw and did so much while we were there and it really was the perfect place to begin our trip around the world!

Australia

After our three months in New Zealand, we flew to Melbourne, Australia for a few days and then picked up a campervan and made our way all up the East Coast of Australia to Cairns over the course of one month.
Australia was a place that I was a little apprehensive to visit but I can safely say that it’s now one of my favourite places I’ve ever been and I’m so glad we made time to visit it as part of our trip around the world.
We got to see so many incredible things and experience the true way of Aussie life; living in a campervan was also amazing and I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to do it again!

Indonesia – travel photos 2019

For so many years, Bali sat at the very top of my travel bucket list, but after spending around two months in Indonesia, it’s actually my least favourite place we’ve visited on our trip around the world!
I’ve written plenty of posts about my experience in Bali and why I don’t think it quite deserves the hype that it gets, but I’ve also written many posts about why I loved places like Nusa Penida and Gili T.
We also did loads of cool things while we were in Indonesia and while I’m definitely not in any rush to head back there anytime soon, I can appreciate that our time there taught me many valuable lessons!

The Philippines

The Philippines was another place on my travel bucket list that I’d wanted to visit for years and thankfully it lived up to my expectations (for the most part, at least!).
We spent just less than a month travelling around numerous islands in the Philippines and we ticked off some pretty epic places while we were there.
The country is renowned for its unparalleled beauty and after spending a good few weeks there, I can certainly vouch for its natural scenery and spectacular beauty.

Malaysia – travel photos 2019

Unlike Indonesia or the Philippines, I’d actually never even considered the notion of visiting Malaysia until we decided to go there pretty much last minute.
However, it actually turned out to be one of my favourites places from our entire trip around the world so far, and possibly one of my favourite countries ever!
We visited Kuala Lumpur and George Town while we were there and I absolutely adored both of those places.
Matt and I have already talked about our next trip there, simply because we loved it so much!

Singapore

Singapore is my 9th and final country in 2019 and I’m actually still there right now at the time of writing this post!
We’ve been here since just before Christmas so we’ve got to spend the holidays and New Year in one of the most flamboyant and extravagant cities/countries in the world!
I already absolutely love Singapore and I can’t wait to get my content written about our time here as I’m sure I’ll have plenty of travel guides and top tips on places to eat and things to see once we leave!

As I’m sure you can tell, 2019 has been an incredible year for travel and I’m ever so lucky that I can call this my “job”.
I’m insanely excited to see what 2020 brings in terms of travel and I hope that you all stick around to see how everything unfolds!
Have an incredible New Year and I will see you in 2020!
