I’m so incredibly excited to share this post with you guys! On our recent press trip with Visit Swansea Bay, we were treated to some of the most incredible meals we’ve had in a long time and I can’t wait to share the best dishes we ate and the best restaurants in Swansea Bay that you absolutely have to visit!
Swansea Bay is home to a plethora of incredible bars, cafes and restaurants and we genuinely didn’t have one bad meal during our time there. If you’re heading to Swansea Bay and the surrounding areas anytime soon, I can assure you that you’re in for a real treat when it comes to food and drink options. Check out my ultimate guide below of the best places to eat in Swansea Bay, Mumbles and Gower!
Langland’s Brasserie – best places to eat in Swansea Bay

Langland’s Brasserie was undoubtedly one of my favourite dining experiences during our time in Swansea Bay as not only was the food absolute top-notch, but the actual dining experience itself made eating here a real treat.
The staff at Langland’s Brasserie were by far the most attentive and welcoming out of all the places we ate in Swansea Bay and after we told our waiter about Matt’s nut allergy, he went to double-check with the chef what we could/couldn’t eat and it’s little touches like this that always make me enjoy dining at a certain place!

When it comes to the menu at Langland’s Brasserie, you’re truly spoiled for choice with their set dinner menu. With a choice of two courses for ÂŁ24.95 or three courses for ÂŁ29.95, you get to choose from a vast range of remarkable starters, mains and desserts suited for all kinds of dietary requirements and preferences.
As neither of us thought that we’d be able to manage three courses each, we decided that one of us would get a starter and a main and the other would get a main and a dessert and then share both the starter and dessert.

For our starter, we went for the bruschetta with fresh tomato, olive oil, garlic and basil and even though I think I would have preferred the calamari starter as I’m not the biggest fan of fresh chunks of tomatoes, Matt had calamari the day before and he fancied something a bit different.
Thankfully, the bruschetta starter was positively delicious and while I didn’t eat too many of the actual tomatoes, the garlicky flavours of the bread, combined with the fresh tomato juice and basil was positively scrumptious. It was also a big enough portion size, without filling us up too much before our main course.
Langland’s Brasserie was actually the only place that I’d checked the menu of before we actually visited as I’d heard so many good things about it so I already had my eye on the pork belly with cider and grain mustard sauce, mashed potato and root vegetables.
Thankfully, my premature choice of this dish was a success as it was so yummy. The cider and mustard sauce paired beautifully with the mashed potato and pork and I even ate all of the vegetables as well! The pork was incredibly flavoursome, but I would have preferred the crackling on top to be a little crispier, but other than that, this dish was a winner in my eyes!
For his main, Matt opted for the confit duck leg with red wine jus, braised cabbage and buttered new potatoes. If I hadn’t already had my heart set on the pork belly dish, the duck leg would have been my second choice so I’m glad that Matt ordered it so I could try it out as well!
The duck leg itself was scrumptious and had a bit of a crispy skin on it which was really yummy and the buttered potatoes were a perfect accompaniment to this dish.

The start of the show, however, was the chocolate delice dessert with salted caramel sauce and I’m prepared to say that it was the best dessert I’ve ever had! Neither of us are usually huge dessert fans, but as soon as we saw this on the menu, we both knew we wanted to try it and I’m so happy that we did!
The mousse-like texture of the chocolate was so ridiculously creamy and indulgent that it honestly tasted like heaven and the salted caramel sauce was absolutely the perfect choice for this kind of dessert. This was by far the best thing we ate in Swansea Bay and I would honestly be tempted to go all the way back again just for this dessert; if you visit Langland’s Brasserie, you absolutely have to order this!

Castellamare

We visited Castellamare for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and even though it was a brisk, autumnal day in October, the restaurant and next-door cafe were teeming with eager diners looking to indulge in some hearty grub!
At Castellamare, we decided to order a starter to share and then get a main course each. For our starter, we went for the meatballs with homemade sauce and you could certainly tell that the sauce was homemade (in the best possible way!). As we both wanted to ensure that we had plenty of room available for our main courses, we were actually quite glad that there were only four meatballs as it meant that we weren’t stuffed after just one course.

However, for the price of ÂŁ7.95, we did think they were a bit pricey for just four meatballs! They were utterly delicious though, and I’d happily recommend them as a starter dish at Castellamare.
When Matt said that he was going to order the roast fillet of salmon for his main dish, I was truly taken aback as he’d never ordered a fish dish from a restaurant before! However, he’s started to develop a liking for salmon in recent weeks and he said he just fancied trying it out in a restaurant!
Thankfully, the roast fillet of salmon (ÂŁ21.95) served with mixed leaf and rocket salad with a side of sautĂŠ potatoes certainly didn’t disappoint and while I personally cannot stand salmon, Matt absolutely adored this and he said that it only cemented his new-found love for salmon even more!
My main course of choice was the Pollo Forestiere pasta (ÂŁ15.95) which consisted of penne pasta with chicken, bacon, Italian sausage and mushrooms in a creamy sauce. Over the last few years, I’ve become absolutely obsessed with all things pasta and I would happily eat some kind of pasta dish multiple times a week so I was delighted to find that this pasta dish from Castellamare met my expectations and then some! The only part that I wasn’t too keen on was the Italian sausage as it just didn’t taste quite right to me, but everything else was truly delectable and it was probably my favourite main course meal of our entire trip!
The portion sizes of the main courses more than made up for the relatively small starter and I really struggled to polish off my huge bowl of pasta so I enlisted Matt’s help, of which he was more than happy to oblige!
Castellamare restaurant is located right next to Bracelet Bay and it offers beautiful views of the bay from numerous parts of the restaurant and cafe area so it’s a great place for a date meal!

King Arthur Hotel
We ate at the King Arthur Hotel at lunchtime on our last day in Swansea Bay and as we were there on a Sunday, it seemed only fitting for one of us to order a Sunday Roast Dinner but as I was feeling a little full from all the other food we’d eaten over the weekend, I left that task to Matt!
He went for the beef roast dinner which was served with roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding and vegetables. The beef was succulent and tender and the roast potatoes were crispy on the outside but light and fluffy on the inside. Matt said that he thoroughly enjoyed his roast dinner at the King Arthur Hotel, but Matt’s mum genuinely does the best Sunday dinner in the world, so for us, there’s nothing compared to a home-cooked roast!
As I wasn’t feeling overly hungry, I just went for hand-carved ham with wholegrain mustard sandwich that was served with thick-cut chips. While it certainly wasn’t my most adventurous choice of meal on our trip, it hit just the spot and filled me up enough without making me feel overly stuffed! The ham was thick and tender and it went perfectly with the mustard in the sandwich and the chips were so thick yet crispy; exactly how I like them!
The King Arthur Hotel and Pub itself is a lovely place to dine and stay in Gower and it’s also a gorgeous wedding venue; they were actually preparing for a wedding on the day that we dined there.

King’s Head Inn – best places to eat in Swansea Bay
I’ve actually already written a full review of all the food we ate at the King’s Head Inn as we also stayed there for two nights as part of our press trip with Visit Swansea Bay so you can read more about our stay there in this post.
However, I thought it was only fair to include a mini-review of the evening meal that we enjoyed at the King’s Head Inn while we were there as it was so yummy, it deserves its own spot on this list of the best places to eat in Swansea Bay!
We both had a starter (I had the garlic mushrooms on toast and Matt had the calamari) but it was the main course that won my affection for the food at King’s Head Inn!
I went for the sirloin steak with homemade chips, mushrooms and tomatoes with a side of peppercorn sauce. While it wasn’t necessarily the best steak I’d ever had, it was more than enjoyable enough and I couldn’t believe how huge the portion was! The chips also reminded me somewhat of chip-shop chips and they tasted particularly delicious when dipped in the peppercorn sauce!
Matt had the chicken arrabbiata pasta which was served with chunky pieces of chicken and chorizo with fresh chillies in a spicy Napoli sauce. The first thing that grabbed both of our attention when this dish came out was just how huge it was and it certainly proved to be substantial as Matt really struggled to finish it all! It was truly delicious, however, and chicken and chorizo is always a winning combination in pasta in my opinion!

Joe’s Ice Cream, Mumbles

Joe’s Ice Cream Parlour is a place that Matt had talked about for years, long before we even planned our trip with Visit Swansea Bay as he used to visit Swansea regularly when he was younger as his aunty, uncle and two cousins live there so Joe’s Ice Cream has been a firm favourite in their family for many years now!
When I knew that we were visiting Swansea and Mumbles, I couldn’t wait to try this “famous” ice cream for myself and I was delighted to discover that it didn’t disappoint!
I went for the blood orange sorbet which was absolutely heavenly; it was so creamy for sorbet and positively oozing with orange flavour, I’d highly recommend this if you’re not the biggest fan of proper ice cream flavours!
Matt on the other hand opted for a two-scoop tub of vanilla and mint choc chop and this too was equally mouth-watering.
Joe’s Ice Cream Parlour: 526 Mumbles Road, Swansea, SA3 4DH.
This post has now made me ridiculously hungry after writing about all these incredible restaurants in Swansea Bay and if you’ve got a trip planned to the area anytime soon, I hope this post about the best places to eat in Swansea Bay has made you excited to try out all these awesome places!
