When it comes to the festive season, there’s nothing I love more than parking myself in front of the TV, equipped with a ridiculously cosy blanket, insanely fluffy pyjamas (and matching slipper socks) and watching tonnes of festive films and TV shows.
While I’ve titled this post ‘the best Christmas films to watch on Netflix’, I’ve also included some of the best festive shows to watch on Netflix as well, in the hope that it’ll get you into the festive spirit.
Netflix is renowned for releasing its own Christmas movies every year, as well as showing some of the best classic Christmas films as well. Check out my ultimate list below of some of the best Christmas movies on Netflix and don’t forget to add your own favourites in the comments!
Of course, this list isn’t completely exhaustive and doesn’t include every single Christmas film on Netflix as I either haven’t seen them all or I wouldn’t recommend them, so if there are any missing that you love, that’s probably why! I’ve also tried to keep the descriptions of each Netflix Christmas movie relatively brief so that I don’t give too many spoilers away!
The best Christmas films on Netflix UK

While Netflix UK doesn’t have some of my all-time favourite Christmas films such as The Grinch, Elf and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, it does still boast a smorgasbord of excellent festive movies such as The Holiday, Deck the Halls and Nativity!
1. The Holiday (2006)
The Holiday is one of my favourite Christmas films ever so I’m absolutely delighted that it’s been on Netflix UK for the last couple of years.
With two intertwining love stories at its heart, it’s wonderfully feel-good and whether you’d prefer the “traditional” white Christmas in a cosy little English village at Iris’ home, or a warmer holiday in Amanda’s LA mansion, it’s impossible not to fall in love with this beautiful festive film.
2. Love Actually (2003)
I am SO happy that Netflix has finally added my beloved Love Actually to their festive movie roster as it’s one of my favourite Christmas films of all time!
I’ve made it my very own tradition to watch Love Actually on the 1st of December every single year for around the last ten years now and now that it’s finally on Netflix, I can watch it easily!
3. The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
Kurt Russel’s depiction of Santa Claus is nothing short of awesome. When two kids decide to try and capture Santa on Christmas Eve, their plans go a little astray which leads to a wonderful tale of them trying to save Christmas with the big guy himself.
4. The Christmas Chronicles 2 (2020)
The sequel to The Christmas Chronicles wasn’t quite as good as its predecessor in my opinion, but it’s still a lovely feel-good family movie with plenty of hilarious and awry mischief thrown into the mix!
5. Dash and Lily (2020)
This one technically isn’t a film but I couldn’t not include it in this list.
Dash and Lily is one of the cosiest, cutest and cheesiest series I’ve seen in a long time and I absolutely bloody love it.
It’s set in New York at Christmas time (it could have been about aliens for all I cared, but you’ll always have me at NY at Christmas) and tells the story of two adorable teens who fall in love while communicating through a red notebook and sending each other off on dares around the city.
It’s so heartwarming and even though the protagonists don’t meet for a while at first, their romance and the tale of them falling for each other just through their words and dares is so lovely.
6. Last Christmas (2019)
Last Christmas is a festive film with a proper twist and when I discovered what it was, it made me incredibly emotional! Throughout the entire film, however, you can’t help but root for Emilia Clarke’s quirky character and I know it’s a film that I’ll happily watch every single year now.
7. Holidate (2020) – best Christmas films on Netflix
While at first Holidate seems to be yet another take on the classics When Harry Met Sally and Friends with Benefits, it actually has its own unique spin on it, in that there are no real benefits involved to begin with.
Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (hunky Aussie, Luke Bracey) are both sick of casual dating and decide that they only really want dates for each holiday throughout the year.
When they meet in a mall, just after Christmas, they agree to be each other’s dates for New Year’s Eve, with no strings attached. In true rom-com style, the story follows their holidates throughout the year, including Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, 4th of July and more.
It’s very cute and of course, totally predictable, but it’s exactly my kind of film and it’s the perfect watch for a cosy night in.

8. Holiday In The Wild (2019)
When I first heard about this movie, I presumed that it would somewhat accurately reflect its title; a lovely film about the holidays (Christmas) in the wild.
While it is still a lovely film and features beautiful animals in their natural habitats in Africa, there’s not really a whole lot of focus on Christmas; it’s more of a quick Christmas scene and back to Kristen Davis looking after elephants again.
If you are a fan of wildlife, then you’ll still love this film, regardless of whether it’s particularly Christmassy or not.
9. Christmas Land (2015) – best Christmas films on Netflix
Christmas Land is a Netflix film that you could easily put on in the background when you’re pottering around doing festive chores in the house. It’s not really anything to shout home about, but it does have a real cute and cosy feel to it and it’s a very easy watch, so you don’t need to worry about paying attention to the storyline in too much detail!
10. Love Hard (2021)
One of Netflix’s newest Christmas films to be added in 2021 is Love Hard; a festive romantic comedy starring Nina Dobrev, Jimmy O. Yang and Darren Barnet.
A classic catfish tale with a twist, Love Hard is a warm, fuzzy and feel-good film that’s been added to Netflix’s roster of awesome cheesy festive films and it’s one that you’re sure to love if you’re into rom-coms.
11. Operation Christmas Drop (2020)
This is a truly wholesome film that represents the true meaning of Christmas.
When a political aide from Washington D.C. is sent to an island Air Force base to investigate what exactly they’re doing there, she discovers that volunteers are helping nearby islands over the holidays with their ‘Operation Christmas Drop’.
It’s loosely based on the real humanitarian Operation Christmas Drop carried out by the U.S. Air Force and it shows what Christmas should really be about. It’s an easy watch and leaves you feeling lovely and wholesome afterwards.
12. Christmas With A View (2018) – best Christmas films on Netflix
Christmas With A View was released on Netflix back in 2018 but I hadn’t heard of it until this year and it was a film that I knew I had to add to this list of the best Christmas films on Netflix.
Set in a beautiful ski resort (AKA something I’ve wanted to do for years now), the film stars the essential “overly good-looking cast” that every romantic comedy seems to have and it’s a cutesy movie with a ridiculously straightforward plot that makes you feel all warm and cosy inside.
13. Deck the Halls (2006)

Deck the Halls is a Christmas film that I’ve been watching with my family long before it made its appearance on Netflix, but now that it’s been added to the hit streaming service, it makes it so much easier to watch it whenever and wherever.
Starring a hit cast including Ferris Bueller’s Matthew Broderick and the ever-hilarious Danny Devito, Deck the Halls is a wonderful family film to enjoy during the festive season that feels oh-so relatable.
14. Christmas Inheritance (2017)
This film doesn’t have the most complex storyline in the world, but it is a very festive and warm and fuzzy Christmas film on Netflix that’s sure to warm your heart.
The tale of a woman who stands to inherit her father’s substantial company is tasked with delivering Christmas letters in a gorgeous, snowy town and the plot follows her journey, filled with love, friendship and of course, quintessential Christmas spirit.
15. The Holiday Calendar (2018) – best Christmas films on Netflix
I haven’t watched The Holiday Calendar since it came out in 2018, but writing this post about the best Netflix Christmas movies has reminded me of how lovely it was and how much I want to watch it again.
Kat Graham stars as the protagonist who is given a calendar from her grandad in the lead-up to Christmas that appears to be magical and sends her all kinds of signs and mysterious gifts. It’s cheesy and silly, but oh-so-lovely and it’s a Netflix holiday movie that I’d definitely recommend adding to your list of things to watch.
16. A Christmas Prince (2017)
The ‘A Christmas Prince’ franchise now has three movies on Netflix and while I somewhat enjoyed the first one, I do think they should have maybe stopped at one…
It’s kind of dramatic and tense, but with a very festive and Christmassy spirit present throughout and it’s definitely a film you can watch with friends who enjoy cheesy rom-coms at their finest!

17. Office Christmas Party (2016)
Featuring an all-star cast, including my favourite Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Olivia Munn, Jillian Bell and many more, Office Christmas Party is a slightly more risque Christmas comedy on Netflix that’s well worth a watch.
It’s got a very ‘Horrible Bosses’ and ‘Bad Moms’ feel to it, so if you like these kinds of movies with a Christmas spin, you’re sure to love Office Christmas Party.
18. The Princess Switch (2018)
This list is essentially just filled with ridiculously cheesy rom-coms and The Princess Switch is no different!
Vanessa Hudgens plays the two protagonists who (funnily enough!) look identical and who switch places with each other the week before Christmas and naturally, fall in love with each other’s proposed partners.
It’s wonderfully festive, funny and romantic and definitely worth a watch.
19. The Princess Switch 2: Switched Again (2020)
Similarly to A Christmas Prince, The Princess Switch also has three movies in its franchise and again, they should have probably stopped at one…
However, the second instalment in The Princess Switch trilogy is pretty much the same as the first film with the whole ‘Parent Trap’ thing going on, but with just a slightly different angle. It’s still over the top and far-fetched but what’s Christmas without a little drama, hey?!
20. The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star (2021)
Fair play to Vanessa Hudgens for pulling off playing three protagonists in one film! In The Princess Switch 3, she plays not one, not two, but three main characters who all just happen to look completely identical.
The plot in this film is a little more dramatic, with a whole lot of hilarity thrown in for good measure and it’s the type of Christmas film you’d watch on a sleepover in your teens, which makes it even more special!

21. Let It Snow (2019) – best Christmas films on Netflix
Yet another romantic comedy added to Netflix’s Christmas film roster, Let It Snow is utterly adorable, entirely cheesy and oh-so feel-good.
It tells the tale of several high school students (who naturally don’t look like they belong in high school at all!) whose lives collide come Christmas Eve and I’m already excited to watch it again this festive season!
22. Nativity! (2009) – top Christmas movies on Netflix
Nativity! is undoubtedly one of the best family Christmas films on Netflix. It’s so incredibly adorable and funny and Martin Freeman and Marc Wootton have a hilarious on-screen partnership that makes Nativity! such a fab Christmas movie.
Set in a school at Christmas time, the film portrays what it’s like to make a Christmas nativity play with primary school kids. It feels like a genuine school and you can imagine that every single character is real in any school across the country and that’s what makes it so loveable.
23. Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger (2012)
Starring David Tennant, Marc Wootton and Joanna Page in the sequel (and not Martin Freeman, unfortunately), Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger is just as funny and arguably even more chaotic than its predecessor!
It’s a wholeheartedly feel-good film that deserves its spot on this list of the greatest Christmas films on Netflix.
24. Holiday Rush – best Christmas films on Netflix (2019)
Even the trailer for this Netflix original film gave me goosebumps when I first watched it and the actual movie itself didn’t disappoint.
It’s a modern take on the old classic of what Christmas is truly about and it just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Not to mention that it’s based in New York so naturally, I instantly loved it!

25. The Knight Before Christmas (2019)
Yet another ridiculously cheesy Netflix original Christmas film and this time one that stars Vanessa Hudgens as the female protagonist again, only this time it’s a film that somewhat reminds me of Amy Adams’ Enchanted.
It’s a lovely festive film with a very cute plot (albeit one that’s slightly unrealistic!) and while it didn’t gain quite as much popularity as The Princess Switch, it’s still very much worth a watch during the holiday season.
26. Merry Happy Whatever (2019)
Merry Happy Whatever is actually a Netflix original Christmas series, so it’s not technically classed as one of the best Christmas films on Netflix but I included Dash and Lily in this post which is also a festive series, so it seemed only right to include this too.
Starring Dennis Quaid, AKA the dad from Parent Trap, plus other top actors and actresses such as Ashley Tisdale and Bridgit Mendler, Merry Happy Whatever is a laugh-out-loud show that’s an incredibly easy watch if you want to put something festive on in the background while you’re pottering around doing Christmas chores.
27. Christmas Wedding Planner (2017) – top festive Netflix movies
This is a tale of a classic wedding planner film with a Christmassy twist and of course, it’s as cheesy and Hallmarky as ever, but it’s undeniably cute and if you’re a fan of full-on romantic comedies at Christmas, I’ve no doubt that you’ll thoroughly enjoy Christmas Wedding Planner.
