Are you a digital nomad or remote worker looking for the best work-friendly cafes in Hanoi? Perhaps you just want to find the best Hanoi coffee? If so, this ultimate guide to the best cafes in Hanoi Old Quarter is for you!
Since April 2019, I’ve worked remotely from more than 40 countries all around the world. From spending one month in New York City to working from dozens of trains on an interrailing trip in Europe to backpacking around Southeast Asia and road tripping across the USA for months at a time, it’s safe to say that I know what to look for when it comes to excellent co-working places/coffee shops/cafes!
Hanoi, Vietnam is probably one of the best cities I’ve ever worked remotely from as it’s home to dozens of digital nomad-friendly cafes and coffee shops. During our one month in Hanoi in September 2023, we managed to visit our fair share of cafes in Hanoi that all catered to digital nomads and remote workers.
In my guide below, I’m sharing my list of the best Hanoi cafes located within the Hoan Kiem District! It includes the best cafes in Hanoi to work from, as well as the best places for coffee, food and just hanging out with friends!

Best coffee shops in Hanoi Vietnam map

As you can see from the map above, most of the coffee shops and cafes that I’ve recommended in this guide are all located in Hanoi Old Quarter/Hoan Kiem District of Hanoi.

1. Puku – best cafes in Hanoi

Puku is an all-in-one cafe/bar/restaurant/co-working space situated on the outskirts of Hanoi Old Quarter.
We spent a month living just two doors from Puku at Wecozy Railway Side and as the food, drinks, staff and Wi-Fi was so good at Puku, we spent a lot of time there!
It’s also an excellent sports bar, but during the day, it caters to remote workers and digital nomads with its excellent choice of food and drink, as well as speedy internet. I actually wrote a huge chunk of my Ultimate New York City Travel Guide ebook at Puku, so I owe a lot to the staff there for always making me feel so welcome!
The food and drink menu is so vast and extensive and it caters to a huge range of dietary requirements and preferences, as well as offering both Vietnamese and more Western dishes.
Working from a sports bar might not be to everyone’s taste, but I loved working from Puku so much, so it’s probably my number one cafe in Hanoi!
Address: 16-18 P. Tống Duy Tân, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
2. Xofa – cute cafes in Hanoi

For one of the best cafes in Hanoi, you definitely need to check out Xofa!
We frequented Xofa so many times during our month in Hanoi as it’s such a great place for co-working and they also serve some of the best food in Hanoi!
It’s a huge establishment, with so many different areas to sit, eat, drink and work from. They have a beautiful outdoor courtyard area that’s absolutely gorgeous in the sun, as well as a small indoor cafe at the front of the establishment, plus multiple upstairs areas at the back of the building.
The Wi-Fi at Xofa is great, so it’s an excellent cafe in Hanoi for digital nomads and remote workers and their drinks menu is also super extensive, with highlights such as Vietnamese coffee and coconut coffee!
Food and drink at Xofa is much more expensive than many of the other local cafes and coffee shops in Hanoi, with a Vietnamese black coffee costing 49,000 VND (£1.65 / $2), compared to the usual price of around 30,000 VND (£1 / $1.23) in most other places, but it is a great place to work from and our food and drink bill was still always less than than £10 for two meals and two drinks!
Address: 14 P. Tống Duy Tân, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
3. Muoi Tieu

Muối Tiêu is one of the most highly rated cafes in Hanoi and rightly so; the food and drink is absolutely incredible!
The food menu is so huge, with so many delicious dishes to choose from such as Eggs Benedict, sourdough salmon bagel, pasta dishes, salads, sliders, chicken curry and much more! It’s a great place to eat in Hanoi for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner!
There’s also free Wi-Fi and multiple plug sockets located within the inside restaurant area (they also have outdoor seating). Muoi Tieu gets incredibly busy during peak eating times (especially with locals!), so if you want to head there to work for a few hours, I’d recommend visiting in between meal times to ensure that you can stay and work for a little while.
It’s not exactly the cheapest place to eat in Hanoi, especially by Vietnam standards, but it is one of my favourite cafes in Hanoi for food, drink and digital nomad work!
Address: 2nd floor, no. 28 P. Tống Duy Tân, Str, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
4. Laika – cafes in Hanoi for digital nomads

Laika is actually a chain coffee shop with multiple locations in Hanoi Old Quarter, including the one that was just a few hundred metres from our apartment in Hanoi.
It’s one of the best digital nomad cafes in Hanoi as it has a huge selection of drinks, plenty of places to sit and great Wi-Fi.
The drinks are a little pricier, but we spent over four hours working from Laika one day, so for just over £2 a drink, we thought it was well worth it!
Laika don’t really serve any food, so it’s definitely better suited to remote workers who just want to head to a cafe and work for hours straight without any distractions.
Address: 10 P. Tống Duy Tân, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
5. Aroi Dessert Cafe

Despite living pretty much directly opposite Aroi Dessert Cafe for an entire month in Hanoi, we didn’t actually visit it until our last week in the city as we assumed it was just for cakes and sweet treats.
However, Aroi Dessert Cafe also has a huge upstairs cafe that’s perfect for digital nomads and remote workers as there are plenty of tables, plug sockets and free Wi-Fi!
Drinks at Aroi are relatively reasonably priced at around 35,000 VND (£1.18 / $1.43) for black coffee and iced tea to 50,000 VND (£1.69 / $2.05) for fancier coffees such as matcha and macchiatos.
The Wi-Fi at Aroi wasn’t the best we found out of all the Hanoi cafes, but it worked well enough for what we needed. They also only accept cash, so be sure to be equipped with some Vietnamese Dong when visiting Aroi.
Address: 9 P. Tống Duy Tân, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
6. Ro Coffee

Ro Coffee is a pretty small coffee shop, also located just a couple of hundred metres from the five Hanoi cafes listed above!
There aren’t too many tables and plug sockets inside Ro Coffee to work from, but if you do manage to grab a spot that’s ideal for working (bonus points if it’s a seat near the window so you can watch the world go by!), then it’s a great little spot!
Vietnamese black coffee is just 30,000 VND (£1 / $1.23) and a strawberry juice is just 45,000 VND (£1.52 / $1.84) at Ro Coffee, so it’s also one of the cheapest cafes in Hanoi featured on this list.
Address: 7A P. Tống Duy Tân, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
7. Wkn – cafes in Hanoi to work from

Wkn Coffee was the first place we visited when we arrived in Hanoi for a month as it’s located just next door to our Wecozy apartment, so we spent a couple of hours there before we could check in.
Traditional Vietnamese black coffee costs just 35,000 VND (£1.18 / $1.43) at Wkn, so it’s another one of the most affordable Hanoi cafes featured in this guide.
We noticed that Wkn coffee was usually super quiet for most of the day and then it seemed to get super busy with locals at around 8 PM, especially at the weekend, so if you’re looking to work from a cafe in Hanoi during the day, you should be fine to do so at Wkn!
Address: 20 P. Tống Duy Tân, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
8. Highlands Coffee – best city view cafe in Hanoi

Highlands Coffee is another chain coffee shop with branches all over Vietnam (we’ve worked from Highlands Coffee in Ho Chi Minh as well!), so while it might not be one the best or most Instagrammable cafe in Hanoi, it is one of the most reliable coffee shops for digital nomads and remote workers.
You’ll find plenty of locals working from pretty much every single Highlands Coffee branch in Hanoi (and beyond), but the branch located right next to Hoan Kiem Lake is also one of the best city view cafes in Hanoi thanks to its vantage point overlooking Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and the lake.
Vietnamese coffee costs around 40,000 VND (£1.35 / $1.64) at Highlands Coffee, so even though it’s a chain cafe, it’s still pretty affordable. I’ve also found the Wi-Fi to be very reliable every time I’ve worked from a Highlands Coffee in Vietnam.
Address: 5 P. Đinh Tiên Hoàng, Hàng Trống, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
9. Vui Coffee Studio

Vui Coffee Studio is an all-in-one coffee shop, art studio and workspace, so it’s a great spot for digital nomads and remote workers in Hanoi.
The interior of Vui Coffee Studio is absolutely stunning, with gorgeous wooden tables to work from and beautiful scents and music to accompany your working experience; it’s definitely one of the most Instagrammable cafes in Hanoi!
Address: 3c P. Tống Duy Tân, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
10. The Note Coffee – most Instagrammable cafe in Hanoi

Speaking of the most famous and Instagrammable cafes in Hanoi, The Note Coffee is worth adding to your list of the best Hanoi coffee shops as it has a great selection of drinks, as well as a few light bites to eat such as croissants, bahn mi and cake.
The Note Coffee is located just next to Hoan Kiem Lake and if you manage to get a window seat on the second or third floor, you’ll also be able to enjoy one of the best city view cafes in Hanoi!
While it is possible to work from The Note Coffee, it’s not my number one recommendation for digital nomads in Hanoi as it’s usually pretty busy with tourists checking out the novelty element of the thousands of post-it notes that decorate almost every single surface of the cafe!
Address: 64 P. Lương Văn Can, Hàng Trống, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
11. Pinkle Coffee

We only made a stop at Pinkle Coffee in Hanoi so that I could take a picture of its beautiful purple exterior to send to my mum as she’s utterly obsessed with the colour purple!
When we discovered that it also had free Wi-Fi, great drinks and tables to work from inside, I knew that I wanted to include it in this round-up of the best cafes in Hanoi Vietnam!
There are actually two Pinkle Coffee branches in Hanoi, one in the Old Quarter and one quite far out of the city centre.
It’s another super highly rated coffee shop in Hanoi with beautiful decor, a vast choice of drinks (with some of the best Vietnamese coffee in Hanoi costing just 29,000 VND!) and numerous seating options for digital nomads to work from.
Address: 1 P. Đường Thành, Cửa Đông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
12. Always Cafe – cool cafes in Hanoi

For a super cool cafe in Hanoi, especially for Harry Potter fans, you need to pay a visit to the Always Cafe in Hanoi Old Quarter!
When we first visited the Always Cafe, I was sure that it was going to be super gimmicky and hugely overpriced and while it is a little pricier than some of the more local cafes in the area, it’s actually surprisingly affordable for a theme cafe.
The Always Cafe is also less than 100m from Cafe Giang where egg coffee originated from in Hanoi (see the section below for more information), so you can visit both places on a walking tour of the best coffee shops in Hanoi!
We were very kindly provided with a card that got us a free Butterbeer from the guy who owns the shop next door which was a very lovely gesture! Butterbeer from the Always Cafe usually costs 65,000 VND (£2.20 / $2.66) so it’s still not outrageously expensive, but it was very nice to receive ours for free!
The interior of the Always Cafe is really cool and fun and it’s a great place for Harry Potter fans to visit in Hanoi. There are plenty of food and drink choices on the menu and you can even take part in a “potions class” where you can make your own drink!
There is free Wi-Fi available at the Always Cafe in Hanoi, so it would be possible to work from there if you want to enjoy a completely unique working experience!
The Always Cafe is also rated #2 out of 577 coffee shops in Hanoi and while I don’t think it necessarily deserves that rating for its food and drinks, it is definitely a very fun and unique coffee shop in Hanoi.
Address: 8B P. Hàng Tre, Lý Thái Tổ, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
13. Starbucks Nhà Thờ

I wasn’t going to include Starbucks in this round-up as it’s not exactly a unique cafe in Hanoi.
However, for the purpose of this post for digital nomads looking for the best coffee shops in Hanoi, I thought that the Starbucks branch just a couple of hundred metres from Hoan Kiem Lake deserved a place on this list as it’s absolutely huge with so many spots to work from.
If you’re looking for the best coffee in Hanoi, you can obviously skip a visit to Starbucks, but if you just want to find a coffee shop that’s perfect for digital nomads and remote workers, this Starbucks branch is a great choice.
Address: 6 P. Nhà Thờ, Hàng Trống, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
14. AHA Cafe

AHA Cafe is another coffee shop branch in Hanoi with chains all over the city, including at least ten in the Old Quarter!
Traditional Vietnamese coffee from AHA Cafe is super cheap at just 30,000 VND (£1 / $1.23), so it’s a great option if you plan to sit and work for a good few hours and you need to stay caffeinated!
Some of the branches also serve local Vietnamese food such as rice dishes and salads. Most AHA Cafe branches in the Old Quarter also have free Wi-Fi and places to sit inside and work, so it’s a great option for remote workers looking for cheap specialty coffee in Hanoi!
Address: 8 Điện Biên Phủ, Cửa Nam, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
15. Fika Cafe

Fika Cafe is another Hanoi coffee shop that’s located within a couple of hundred metres from our doorstep of Wecozy in Hanoi and it’s open daily from 8 AM to 1 AM, so if you need your coffee fix late into the evening, you know where to go!
The cafe is a part of Hanoi Street Hotel, but you can still go inside and get a delicious hot or cold drink and get a bit of work done. The seating area inside Fika Cafe isn’t huge, so it’s not my favourite Hanoi coffee shop for digital nomads, but it’s worth checking out if you’re visiting some of the other cafes featured in this guide that are located close by.
Address: 1A Ng. Hàng Bông, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
How much is a cup of coffee in Hanoi?
The average price of a cup of coffee in Hanoi is usually around 30,000 VND (£1 / $1.23), but you can find traditional Vietnamese coffee for as little as 15,000 VND (£0.50 / $0.62) in some local places. The more expensive cups of coffee will cost between 50,000 VND (£1.70 / $2.05) and 80,000 VND (£2.72 / $3.28) in more Western coffee shops such as Starbucks, but this is definitely more than you should expect to pay for typical Hanoi coffee.
What is egg coffee?
Egg coffee is perhaps the most famous coffee in Hanoi that is traditionally prepared with egg yolks, sugar, condensed milk and coffee. It’s made by whisking eggs and condensed milk into a thick custard that is then place on top of coffee. Egg coffee is more of a dessert than a traditional coffee, but it’s been loved by locals in Hanoi ever since 1946!
The best place to get egg coffee in Hanoi Old Quarter is from Café Giảng on Huu Huan Street which is known as the birthplace of egg coffee in Hanoi and was invented in 1946 by Mr. Nguyen Van Giang! Egg coffee was created at this time as a result of a shortage of milk due to the French War, so Giang used whisked eggs as a substitute!
Cafe Giang address: 39 P. Nguyễn Hữu Huân, Lý Thái Tổ, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội.
Best cafes in Hanoi – conclusion
I hope you got plenty of inspiration for the best cafes and coffee shops in Hanoi to work from as a digital nomad! As I mentioned at the start of this guide, Hanoi is one of my favourite digital nomad-friendly cities in the world and as it’s so famous for its incredible coffee, it’s the perfect place to pack up your laptop and head out to work from one of the city’s many cafes!

Ah this makes me want to go back to Hanoi! I visited way back in 2016 and the only cafe I remember visiting from this list is Highlands Coffee. It was so cool to see the wild traffic from above, sipping on an extremely sweet and over-caffeinated coffee!
Ah it’s such a great place, isn’t it?! Watching the traffic in Hanoi is definitely a highlight haha! Thank you so much for your comment!
