We’re now just five months (!!!) away from our trip around the world and we’ve really turned the heat up on the planning!
There’s a few plans that are actually set in stone now, and the last few weeks have been incredibly exciting and mega busy with everything travel related.
Here’s where we are with regards to our trip around the world – five months before.
Booked our flights!
The first incredibly exciting thing that’s happened since my last update on our trip around the world is that WE’VE BOOKED OUR FLIGHTS!
We’re flying the 30 hour journey to New Zealand on the 24th April 2019 and now that the flights are officially booked, it really does feel incredibly real.
Before we’d booked them, it all still sort of felt like a pipe dream but now that we’ve safely secured our seats on the flight, it couldn’t be more exciting! I’m planning on doing a whole post all about booking/buying everything for travelling at some point – if that’s something you’d like to read, let me know in the comments!
I quit my job…
I announced this on Instagram a couple of days ago, but I’ve handed in my notice at my current job and will be leaving just before Christmas!
It was a pretty tough decision to make but it feels like the entirely right thing to do and I’m so excited to see what the next few months bring. I’ll be able to spend some much more quality time with my family and friends before we leave and I’ll get the chance to work on some incredibly exciting projects before we head off around the world!
…And will be full time freelance in January!
Which brings me nicely on to my next point…
From January, I will be a full time freelance travel writer and travel blogger! I cannot believe that I’m in the incredibly fortunate position to be able to do this and I feel so unbelievably lucky. It’s going to be such a learning curve but one that I’m really eager to get my teeth stuck into.
I’ll have time to work on my freelance business as well as on this blog, so with plenty of hard work, determination and maybe just a little bit of luck, 2019 will be the year that really transforms I’m Just A Girl into something incredible!
Made a list of all the injections we need
On to the more tedious but important stuff now; we’ve looked into exactly what injections and vaccinations we’ll need for all the places that we want to visit.
While we haven’t booked any appointments to get our vaccinations just yet, (most of them you don’t need until a couple of months or weeks before) we have collated an extensive list of all the ones that we need, how much they cost and when we need to get them.
I think the thing that’s surprised me the most about our travel plans so far is just how expensive the vaccinations are! Honestly, I think that’s going to be one of the most expensive things we need to get in order to go around the world!
Still saving our asses off
Of course, we’re still saving our asses off in order to pay for everything and have the most amazing travel experience possible.
While I’m definitely a firm believer that you don’t need to be a millionaire to have incredible travel experiences or even just a luxury holiday (we’ve just booked a weekend away to Oslo for less than £160 each for flights and accommodation!), but it definitely helps to have something saved, especially when it comes to full time travel.
With taking my freelance business and travel blog full time next year, I’m really gonna have to work extremely bloody hard in order to make sufficient money to both live comfortably and save for travelling. I have every faith in myself though, as it’s something that I’m unbelievably determined to achieve so I just know that I can do it!
If you’d like a full post on how we’ve been saving so much for our travels, please let me know in the comments!
I can’t believe that we’re just five months away from embarking on our trip of a lifetime; it’s so exciting!
