But, if there’s one thing I love about watching movies, it’s learning something and being inspired; especially movies that inspire my travels. There’s so many films that I’ve been inspired by in the last few years, and they’ve all encouraged me to visit a plethora of places around the world.
So here’s my list of films to watch to inspire your travels.
Forrest Gump is actually my favourite film ever and it’s only made better by the fact that it shows some of the most beautiful places in America. The scenes in Washington D.C. made me desperate to visit the Lincoln Memorial and National Mall and I was so unbelievably happy when I visited D.C. a few years ago.
Just Go With It
Incidentally, this is also another one of my favourite films (are you noticing a theme here?). It’s got the absolute BABE Jennifer Aniston in and a lot of the film is located in Hawaii where we get to see the stunning beaches, hotels and incredible rainforests. I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii but this film reinforced my wanderlust even more!
50 First Dates
Yet another Adam Sandler classic, 50 First Dates is also set on one of the beautiful islands in Hawaii and has me pining for its gorgeous landscapes, crystal blue waters and stunning, sandy beaches.
OK, I’ve never actually seen this film the whole way through but it’s very high up on my to-watch list. This film is renowned for its stunning depiction of Thailand and its glorious beaches and I can guarantee as soon as I watch it, I’ll want to book the next flight to Thailand!
Sex and the City (1&2)
You’re all incredibly aware of my adoration for New York by now and that’s one of the main reasons I’ve rewatched SATC so many times. The cityscape backdrop of the New York skyline is one of the reasons I love this film so much as I really don’t think I could ever get tired of staring at the stunning city.
The second film focuses largely on the Middle East, in particular Abu Dhabi, and I always love to live the Middle Eastern dream vicariously through the SATC girls. From the lavish hotels, to the quintessential markets and the everlasting deserts; it’s definitely a place that’s high up on my list of places to visit. I’ve actually been to Dubai before but I never got the chance to properly explore Abu Dhabi and I’d definitely love to!
Eat Pray Love
It’s been a while since I’ve watched Eat Pray Love but from what I remember, a large portion of the film focuses on the scenery in Bali; and Bali is somewhere I’ve wanted to travel to for many years now! The film also shows beautiful locations such as Italy and India; two places which I also want to explore more.
Wild is an incredibly powerful film starring Reese Witherspoon that shows a young woman undertaking a 1,000 mile trek along the Pacific Crest Trail. While I’m not quite sure that I’d like to do the whole 1,000 journey, this film was deeply awe-inspiring and it definitely made me want to take a similar (but much shorter) trek one day.
Films I want to see:
Tracks is a film that I really want to see because I’ve heard so many lovely things about it. It’s about an Australian woman who travels 1,700 miles across the Australian dessert with her dog and numerous camels. It’s based on a true story and from the trailer alone, I’m already itching to watch it!
Into The Wild
This looks and sounds like an awesome movie that shows one man’s journey across America to Alaska. It does seem fairly sad and emotional but I think the general premise of the film seems great. Definitely one to add to my to-watch list.
I’m sure I’ll keep updating this list as I discover more travel-inspired films to watch so keep checking back for more!
