Ways To Feel Like You’re Still On Holiday At Home*

holiday at home

Being on holiday – or simply just visiting a new place for the night – is my favourite thing to do, so naturally whenever I arrive home, I’m usually always feeling less than enthusiastic… There’s always so much washing to be done, suitcases to be unpacked and preparation for heading back to work that it seems like such an unfortunate chore to head home after a holiday.

In order to combat the general gloominess that I experience whenever I arrive home from a trip, there’s a few steps that I try and take so I thought I’d share them with you in today’s post.

Here’s all the ways to feel like you’re still on holiday at home.

Transform your bathroom into a sanctuary

You know whenever you’re on holiday, or even just in a hotel for the night, and the bathroom resembles something like a spa? Well the best way to recreate that feeling at home is to simply turn your bathroom into a space of utter relaxation and tranquility.

A good old bath is the perfect way to recreate that holiday feeling at home as you’ll be able to escape and totally relax and unwind.

Another way to ensure your bathroom resembles that of a hotel bathroom is to make sure that it’s clean, tidy and organised. If you really want to go all out, you could invest in matching towels to really bring the whole place together. A gorgeous vanity unit like the ones from Bathroom City* can also help you to achieve your dream bathroom that looks like it’s come straight from the pages of a travel magazine.

Your bathroom should also be filled (but not cluttered) with plenty of gorgeous, luxury products that you can use to treat yourself with. Some of my favourites to use when I’m wanting a proper pamper session are from Soap and Glory as they’re perfect for making you feel like you’ve got that holiday feeling.

Turn your bedroom into a luxurious space of comfort

The first thing you notice whenever you stay in a hotel is just how gorgeous your hotel room is. In order to recreate that perfect ‘holiday at home’ feeling, you need to make your bedroom a space where you can truly relax.

Invest in some extremely cosy and luxurious bedding; one of my absolutely favourite things about staying in a hotel room is just how comfy the beds are so I always love recreating this perfect feeling in my own bedroom.

Another way to recreate the holiday feeling is by leaving yourself little gifts for when you get home from work. You know the cute little touches like chocolates on your pillow and a freshly made bed? Well you should try and do this every single day for yourself (or just get your boyfriend to…).

A Look Into My Perfume Collection

Invest in a delicious summer scent

One of the most lush feelings when you’re on holiday is getting ready to go out for cocktails after you’ve spent all day by the pool or on the beach. A fresh, summer fragrance is a perfect way to remind you of your summer holiday so I’d always recommend having a bottle of your favourite fragrance nearby to make you feel like you’re a summer goddess.

Whether it’s a perfume that you always take on holiday with you, or you invest in some delicious summer scented candles and diffusers, the ‘smell of holiday’ can really help you to achieve that holiday at home feeling.

Make a travel scrapbook of all your favourite holidays

While I’m always pretty devastated whenever I return home from an adventure, I always love putting together pictures from my holiday and making a scrapbook with them.

This is one of my favourite ways to keep that holiday feeling alive as it allows me to relive all the wonderful moments I had while I was away. Fill your photo albums with pictures of your latest adventures or create a shared Google file that allows everyone to upload their best holiday pics that you can all relive and enjoy for years to come.

I also have many travel photos dotted around our apartment so that they’re constantly on show and if I’m ever feeling a particular bad bout of wanderlust (real condition, peeps) then I know that I can just admire all of our glorious travel memories on our wall.

Make a batch of yummy fruit cocktails

This point probably requires a bit more effort than the others but there’s nothing better than soaking up some summer sun with a glass (or three) of a freshly made cocktail by your side. When trying to create that ‘holiday at home’ feeling, you should whip up some delicious fruity cocktails as it’s a surefire way of recreating that blissful holiday feeling.

Scan Pinterest for some yummy, Insta-worthy recipes and you’ll soon be surrounded by a plethora of fruit delicacies for everyone to enjoy.

This is a lovely post – I always love getting back home after being away but then get the holiday blues when I’m home! I love the idea of putting chocolates on your bed for when you get home, this sounds so up my street! Making cocktails too sounds so yummy, why have I never thought of these before?!

What a brilliant idea for a blog post! I definitely miss huge comfy hotel beds and the amazing breakfast options when I come home, so to be able to incorporate a bit of holiday feeling into your house is such a good idea! Making a travel scrapbook is certainly something that I intend to do once I’m back from my travels this summer, you make such lovely memories while you’re away and a scrapbook is a fantastic keepsake! Turning your bathroom into a sanctuary sounds sensational as well, I’m back at my family home for Easter at the moment where we have a bath so I intend to have a long soak tonight!
