Books To Read At Christmas

Christmas time is the perfect time to snuggle up on the sofa with a hot, delicious drink, a cosy blanket and a good festive book. I haven’t read nearly as much as I would have liked this year but as the dark nights are well and truly settled in, I really want to make more of an effort to sit down and read a good book.

During the colder months there’s always a number of books that I enjoy reading and today’s post is all about my favourite picks. Whether you enjoy a romance novel or are more inclined to reading a fantasy book, I think I have just the selection for you.

Harry Potter

While Harry Potter can obviously be read (and thoroughly enjoyed) all year round, there’s just something about it that reminds me of Christmas time. I think that it’s the magical aspect of the story but whenever I read this, I always think of the festivities at Hogwarts. It’s a book that pretty much every single person in the world loves and the story of Harry, Ron and Hermione navigating their way through the magical world is one that captivates me time and again. They’re not necessarily books that can be read quickly, but they’re certainly ones that you’ll love no matter how many times you read them. I’ve already re-watched all the movies this year but I can’t wait to get stuck into the books again while snuggled up with the Christmas lights on.

I Heart Christmas

I’ve spoken about my love for Lindsey Kelk and the ‘I Heart’ series before on my blog and my adoration for I Heart Christmas is no different. The story of Angela and her life in New York has me utterly mesmerised and the characters in the books are some of my absolute favourites. This installment of the ‘I Heart’ series is obviously centred around Christmas time and it’s one of my absolute favourite stories. It’s such an easy and enjoyable read and the fact that everything is so Christmassy just makes it even better. It’s a book that can literally be read in a day and you’re guaranteed to fall in love with every single character – if you get the chance to read the whole ‘I Heart’ series then I’d seriously recommend it.

Fairytale of New York

There’s naturally going to be a running theme in this post regarding location and you’ll see why in a couple of posts’ time. This book has a fairly similar concept to the ‘I Heart’ series in that an English woman runs away to New York to begin a new life but the characters are very different. Full of romance, mystery and a quintessential New York backdrop, Fairytale of New York is everything you’d want in a Christmas novel. My love for New York only intensifies when reading this and it really is the perfect companion to snuggle down with on a cold Winter’s day.

A Diamond from Tiffany’s

For those who know me, know exactly how much I love Tiffany and Co so naturally this was a book that appealed to me straight away. I loved the first book in this series (Something from Tiffany’s) so I knew that I’d enjoy the second book just as much. This book is also set in New York – I told you there would be a running theme – and it follows the lives of a number of different people trying to navigate their love lives in the Big Apple. It’s cosy, romantic and very sweet and it’s definitely a book worth reading over the festive period.

Miracle on 5th Avenue

I read this book for the first time last Christmas and I absolutely fell in love with the story and the characters. It’s such a beautiful story with an incredibly charming protagonist whose adoration for Christmas is infectious. It’s particularly sad at times but it also made me smile (and laugh) a lot and I couldn’t recommend it enough. The characters are wonderfully charming and the story is ever so romantic; it’s sure to make you want to embark on a love story that’s based in NYC.

Have you read any of these books? What’s your favourite book to read at Christmas? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter @imjustagirl_16.

Harry Potter is the best to read around Christmas time – just feels so much more magical! Miracle on 5th Avenue sounds lovely too – may need to give that one a read. NY during Christmas sounds like a dream!

I’ve never read any of these, not even the Harry Potters! I feel like a failure haha. I don’t really have a specific book to read at Christmas as it’s not often I read the same book more then once but Fairytale of New York sounds super cute!

I have actually read all of these books and they are all definitely amazing! I re-read the Harry Potter series every single year. Is that silly? Probably but I love them!

We definitely have exactly the same taste with our romance novels! I would happily read all of the romance books you’ve listed and aren’t all of the covers soo pretty!? I haven’t actually jumped on the Harry Potter bandwagon, which I know is really bad, but maybe I should start with the books and then the films after.. xo
