A Weekend Away In Budapest

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram then you’ll know that I spent last weekend in Budapest. I booked the trip a few months ago as a surprise birthday present for Matt and I can definitely say that it was a good choice! It was such a beautiful, picturesque place (as you’ll be able to see from the pictures, most of which were actually taken by Matt!) and I would definitely go back there.

My Favourite Blog Posts In February

February was a very productive and rewarding month for me. I started a new job in digital marketing which I love, whilst still managing to work weekends at Starbucks. I started updating my blog more which I’m really keen to keep up with as I love writing. I also read an awful lot of blogs this month to try and gain inspiration, and in doing so I discovered a vast number of posts that I loved, therefore I thought I’d share them with you. I’m thinking of making it a monthly thing so let me know if you enjoyed reading.

  1. My favourite blogger of February was definitely Jemma as she was so consistent with her uploads and her posts were always filled with fun, interesting content. Jemma is also always so lovely and interactive on Twitter and she seems like a genuinely lovely person. Some of my favourite posts of Jemma’s this month were ‘6 Things To Do When You Crave Change’, ‘10 Things I’m Super Grateful For Lately’ and ‘Pinterest Home Decor Inspiration’. I also binge-listening to Jemma’s podcast with her boyfriend a lot this month and I absolutely loved it! You can find it at ‘The Odd Pear’ podcast.
  2. Megs from Wonderful You wrote an extremely honest and raw post about depression and how it has affected her and although it breaks my heart to know what she is going through, I thought she curated the post beautifully.
  3. I’ve been absolutely loving Carrie’s posts about her wedding and honeymoon over the past few weeks but the one that stood out for me was her ‘Honeymooning in the Maldives post’. Carrie’s posts always feature the most beautiful photographs but this post had my Maldives’ envy in serious overdrive!
  4. Lauren’s guide to the ultimate weekend in had me desperate to curl up in my pyjamas and do nothing but watch Netflix and consume an abundance of snacks!
  5. Mandy’s posts are always beautifully written but I particularly enjoyed her ‘50 Random Acts Of Kindness‘ post this month.
  6. It is no secret that I’m *slightly* obsessed with Hannah Gale’s blog and there is literally always something fantastic to read on her blog. One of my favourite posts of Hannah’s this month was her ‘Three Things To Do When You’re Struggling With Blogger’s Block’. Even though I’m only just getting properly into blogging I saved this post as I’m sure it will come in useful in the months to come.
  7. Experiences Over “Stuff” on Valentine’s Day‘ by Rhianna at Robowecop was very appropriate for the time of year and it also struck a cord with me because I also prioritise memories and moments over “stuff”.
  8. Wear Daisy Went wrote a blog post this month on ‘50 Blog Post Ideas‘ which I think is very useful for anyone starting out blogging, or for anyone who is stuck in a bit of a blogging rut.
  9. What to Pack for New York in Winter‘ by Sher She Goes was a very informative, beautifully put-together post. As NYC is by far my favourite place in the world, I obviously saved this post to look back on when I make my next visit to the Big Apple.
  10. I’ve been reading Katy’s blog for a while now and I always particularly enjoy her posts about York as I actually live in York. Her post ‘7 Things To Do In York‘ was an enjoyable read as I could relate to everything she said!

So that’s my monthly round-up of posts that I’ve been loving in February. What posts have you loved this month?

One Year Of Driving.

BMW car
My first car that I never even got to drive properly

Today marks the one year anniversary since I passed my driving test. I can safely say it’s one of the best things that I’ve ever done; it’s given me so much freedom. I would definitely recommend to anyone that they should learn to drive as soon as they can.

However, it hasn’t all been plain sailing, (or, plain driving in this case- is that even a thing?!) because since passing my test I’ve managed to use, and subsequently get rid of three cars.

My first one I got for my 17th birthday as a sort of motivator to learn to drive and pass my test, and it did for a while- until my dad crashed it and wrote it off! This car was in the scrapyard before I’d even had the chance to pass my test.

I got my next car on the day that I passed my test, and there was literally no greater feeling than picking it up and driving it away myself- I felt so grown up haha!

My second car that lasted only a few weeks

However, this joy was short lived as a couple of weeks later it had to go into the garage. It’s fair to say that it never came back out as it needed so much work doing to it.

My third car, and the one that I’m still using now, is invariably a piece of crap, in that it doesn’t drive very well but it’s managed to survive almost ten months, and with my experience with cars, I’d say that’s a positive!

The main point of this post wasn’t to moan to you about my bad luck with cars, it was mainly just to encourage you to pass your test as soon as possible! By learning to drive, I’ve been given opportunities that I otherwise wouldn’t have had; it’s allowed me to visit family who live far away, I’ve been able to explore new places and it also helped me obtain my current job (without a car I wouldn’t have been able to get there!)

So yeah, book those driving lessons now.

14 Date Ideas For Valentine’s Day

This will be the first proper year that I’ve celebrated Valentine’s Day and I intend to do it properly! I’m fortunate that my boyfriend is already pretty romantic so I know whatever we do it’ll be special. But for those struggling for ideas on how to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, I’ve composed a list of things that should suit almost everyone.

  1. Bar Crawl– If you’re both into the party scene then this may be the date for you, or if you just want to have a few casual drinks and not make a big date out of the day then this is the perfect way to spend time together without making *too* much effort.
  2. Scavenger Hunt – This is a really fun idea if you’re a creative person, your partner would really appreciate the effort that you’d put into making clues for them.
  3. Dinner At Home– If you’re not wanting to spend too much money on V Day this year, you could always spend the evening cooking a romantic meal together; light some candles, put some music on and just enjoy each other’s company.
  4. Recreate Your First Date– By recreating your first date, you would be reliving memories of when you first got together, it’s always nice to reminisce and this is the perfect way to do it!
  5. Spa Weekend– If you and your partner have a slightly larger budget for romance this year, you could book a spa day/weekend away together. It could be a surprise for your partner or you could plan it together , making sure you both get the treatments you want…
  6. Camping Trip– I certainly won’t be doing this any time soon, (my boyfriend would know better than to plan this… I hope!) but if you’re an outdoorsy couple then this could be the perfect date for you.
  7. Explore Your City– My boyfriend and I are fortunate enough to live in a beautiful city but we rarely go and explore it. If you live in a lovely city, you should spend the day and/or evening getting to know it.
  8. Make a Den– You could have a super childish day where you do nothing but make a blanket fort, make a load of snacks and watch Netflix all day from the confines of your den.
  9. Hot Air Balloon Ride– This is something that I’ve never actually done but always wanted to, this date is probably more on the pricey side of things but it would be very romantic, especially if you went at sunrise or sunset.
  10. Ice Skating– Around Christmas time, this was mine and Matt’s favourite activity. He’d never been able to do it before but after my “expert” training, we were flying around the rink. I imagine most places have closed their outdoor rinks for the time being, but there will be plenty of indoor places around the country where you could practice your pirouette.
  11. Pamper Evening– This is basically the cheaper (although no less romantic) version of booking a spa weekend away together. You could run a bath, light some candles and whip out the face masks. It would be the perfect way to chill out together, especially if you don’t do that sort of stuff a lot.
  12. Breakfast Date– Breakfast/brunch is my favourite meal of the day and I’m always looking for new places to find delicious pastries. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could incorporate your breakfast date into the day of exploring your city and find a cute little cafe that serves the nicest pastries.
  13. Picnic Date– If weather permits, you could make a picnic and go and watch the sunset. However, this time of year is probably not the best for outdoor picnics so you could always set up a blanket at home and do it indoors instead.
  14. Weekend Away– One of my favourite things to do is to travel to new places, so why not make this Valentine’s Day the time to explore a new place together? This could be somewhere in your home country or if you’re feeling adventurous, (and a little bit spendy) head somewhere abroad, perhaps somewhere with sun to escape this constant gloomy weather that has descended on the UK.

Why I’ve just decided to write my 2017 goals now.

Image from Pinterest

You may think it’s strange that I’m only just getting around to writing my New Year’s Resolutions now, especially considering we’re near the end of January but I promise that I have a logical reason for it.

2016 was without a doubt the best year of my life. It was incredible in every way; I was the happiest I’ve ever been. I think that’s partly the reason why it’s taken me so long to decide what I want to do this year; I didn’t think it could get any better than last year.

But now, after over a month into 2017, I’m sure that it can get even better. I spent the last half of 2016 unsure of what to do with my life; I left school in the summer and even though I got in to University, I decided that it wasn’t what I really wanted to do. I’ve spent the last few months working as a Barista at Starbucks which I love, but I know it’s not what I want to do forever. Which now brings me to the next point of my life; my new “proper” job.

I’ve somehow managed to secure myself a job at a digital marketing company and I am SO excited. I’m really proud of myself for doing this, especially as I have no previous experience in the field. I’m sure I’ll keep you up to date on here and let you know how I’m getting along.

16 Things That Happen When You Move In With Your Boyfriend.

Image from Pinterest

I officially moved in with my boyfriend at the beginning of November last year and I can quite honestly say it’s been the best thing ever. We’re currently living at his parents’ house while we save for our own place and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, (someone shoot me for being so cheesy).

Since moving in I’ve learned a number of things about what it’s like to live with a boy, so I thought I’d share with you.

  1. He will probably end up stealing (or borrowing) a number of your beauty products, even though he may complain that you have too many. Things like moisturiser, hairspray and dry shampoo.
  2. He will actually enjoy the hygge atmosphere you create, despite claiming it’s too “girly”.
  3. You’ll realise how good he is at listening to your rants, or he may have just zoned out but either way he makes a good therapist.
  4. You absolutely cannot watch a TV show that you’re both obsessed with, without your SO there.
  5. You’ll end up seeing each other in every drunk situation imaginable.
  6. It’s important to make time for specific date nights- ones that include doing something other than a takeaway and Netflix in your pyjamas.
  7. Having said that, chill days are also amazing together.
  8. If he’s away for a few days, you realise how strange it feels to sleep alone.
  9. You’ll realise how much your hair gets everywhere- because he’ll point it out.
  10. If he can handle you when it’s your time of the month then he’s a keeper.
  11. He will see you at your most disgusting, gross state and *hopefully* still love you.
  12. You’ll probably find that he’s really quite messy- and will be rather reluctant to tidy up after himself.
  13. A number of embarrassing situations may arise, like who will be the first to burp or fart.
  14. You’ll be surprised how long it takes him to get ready- it’ll be nowhere near as long as you, but it’s still long enough.
  15. His annoying habits (and yours for that matter) will be magnified immensely- you just have to learn to cope with them.
  16. But at the end of the day, you live with your best friend- and there’s literally nothing better than that.

18 Ways To Feel More Festive This Christmas

  1. Buy some festive scented candles. I usually go for Yankee Candles as they offer so many different seasonal scents.
  2. Have a Christmas movie day- Elf, Love Actually and The Grinch are just some of my favourite seasonal films!
  3. Wear Christmas jumpers.
  4. Have a day of Christmas shopping with someone close to you, there’s nothing better than going shopping with your favourite people and treating others!
  5. Make some festive drinks, such as hot chocolate, mulled wine or mulled cider.
  6. Have a Christmas baking day- make gingerbread treats or go all out and make a Christmas cake!
  7. Spend a full afternoon wrapping Christmas presents.
  8. Go for a drive or a walk to look at all the Christmas lights- there’s a whole street near me that puts a million lights up every year!
  9. Decorate your Christmas tree and make your house all Christmassy.
  10. Have a bath and use the lush Christmas products.
  11. Watch all the Christmas specials of your favourite programmes- some of my favourites include Gavin and Stacey and Miranda.
  12. Similar to decorating, you could cover your house in fairy lights and read a book with a hot chocolate.
  13. Drink ALL the festive drinks from your local coffee shop, although working at Starbucks has sort of took away the novelty of this for me!
  14. Perfect your seasonal makeup- go all out with the sparkly silvers and golds!
  15. Find your perfect party dress.
  16. Enjoy eating all the chocolate and Christmassy foods.
  17. Visit a Christmas market
  18. Enjoy watching all the Vlogmas videos on YouTube.

Top 9 Christmas Films!

My 9 Favourite Christmas Films!

Christmas is by far the best time of year to have a day full of doing nothing except watching movies, drinking hot chocolate and chilling in your pjs. So I thought I’d compose a list of my favourite Christmas movies of all time, in case you have a ‘doing nothing kinda day’ coming up.

These are in no particular order as I couldn’t quite choose which was my ultimate favourite- I think it would have to be between Love Actually, Elf and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation!

  1. Love Actually
  2. Elf
  3. The Santa Clause
  4. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
  5. The Holiday
  6. Home Alone
  7. The Grinch
  8. The Polar Express
  9. Miracle on 34th Street.
