5 Tips For Creating Really Great Blog Posts

5 Tips For Creating Really Great Blog Posts

I’m certainly not claiming that I’m an expert when it comes to creating the world’s best blog posts but there are a few tips that I use when I’m writing my latest post that I wanted to share with you.

I’ve been offiicially blogging for just short of two years now, and I’m not saying that my traffic is through the roof by any means, but over the last few months I’ve noticed a pretty decent improvement in both my stats and the I’m Just A Girl blogging community so I wanted to share what I’ve learnt with you guys.

Here’s 5 tips for creating really great blog posts.

P.S. please remember that I’m by no means an expert, I simply just wanted to share my opinions with you guys!

5 Tips For Creating Really Great Blog Posts

Write what you’d want to read

This is probably one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learnt since taking blogging seriously as it’s the one that has helped me to significantly improve my content. By adopting this approach, you’re able to create content that you’d truly enjoy seeing crop up on your Twitter news feed or in a Facebook comment thread.

There’s been so many times where I’ve read various blog posts (usually from the likes of Vix, Sophie and Hannah) and think “damn, I wish I’d have written that”. When you write blog posts that you’d really like to read yourself, then you’re much more likely to be creating content that people similiar to you would also like to read.

Do your research – use Bloglovin’ and Pinterest

While I firmly and wholeheartedly believe that it’s imperative to always create your own authentic and unique content, I also think that there’s so much content out there already that it’s going to be pretty hard to think of an entirely new idea and concept.

One way to combat this, and make your blog posts as great as possible, is by putting your own unique spin on the content that already exists.

Whenever I’m lacking inspiration, I always take to the likes of Bloglovin‘ and Pinterest for new ideas. For example, if I’m writing a new travel post about Amsterdam, I make sure to include my own bespoke voice in it by talking about the  things that did while I was there, instead of the generic ‘list of things to do in Amsterdam’.

Answer people’s questions

How often do you head over to Google when you want an answer to something?

“What are the best places to visit in New York?” “Best restaurants in Paris” “Which is the best Urban Decay eyeshadow palette?”

Ya get me?

These are the types of questions that people search into Google all the time so you need to utilise the sh*t out of SEO and make sure you get your blog posts to feature high up on the search engine results pages for these questions.

One of the best ways to create awesome blog posts is to think about the things that people may be searching for; whether you’re a travel, beauty or relationship blogger, make sure you think about how you’re going to phrase the title of your blog post so that it’s much more likely to show up in Google.

Create original content

This obviously goes without saying, but in order to have great content, you need to ensure that it’s entirely your own.

For your blog posts to really stand out, you need to make sure your own, unique voice stands out. This will give you a creative edge as no one has the same writing voice as you.

As cheesy as it sounds, you should write from the heart, and write about what you love and you’ll soon see a dramatic improvement in the quality of your blog posts.

Personality is definitely key when writing and my favourite bloggers all write posts where their personality simply radiates through their words – and I bloody love it.

Don’t be afraid to push boundaries

While this post is pretty similar to the one above, I think it does deserve a point all on its own.

Vix Meldrew is one of my (and many others’) favourite bloggers because she’s not afraid to push the boundaries of the social norm and she writes whatever TF she wants.

Whether it’s talking about sex, alcohol or the fact that you just love steak too much to become a vegan, it’s more than ok to write about exactly how you feel and the right audience will recognise that and appreciate it.

Naturally, you should never, ever try and offend anyone but I think a little personality, a little sass and a whole lot of passion can get you very far with your content.

yes to showcasing your personality! I love reading posts that seem real and not just like they’re trying to seem like a cookie cut blogger. Writing things you want to read is probably the most important, sometimes I used to write reviews and think ‘I wouldn’t even read this’ and now only accept things I’m actually going to look forward to writing about! x

Brilliant advice, Chloe! At the minute I’m trying to strike a balance between writing what I’m passionate about and providing useful content that people are likely to search for – this gives me space to explore and share my own passions as well as trying to benefit other people which is a lovely combo! Vix certainly is amazing at pushing the boundaries; we can all learn lots from her!
