5 Base Products I’m Loving At The Moment

It feels like I’ve been trying to get my makeup look just the way I want it for ages, and while it’s still not 100% perfect I feel more confident than ever with the way my makeup has been turning out. With the help of these five base products (and of course, my trusty UD Naked Heat Palette) I’m finally on my way to achieving the perfect look.

Once I’ve cleansed, toned and moisturised, I like to use the Benefit ‘The Porefessional’ primer to achieve the perfect, smooth base for my makeup. It works incredibly well at smoothing out my pores and it leaves my skin feeling luxuriously soft and well-prepped for the next part of my base. It works amazingly well at minimising my pores and I love how smooth my skin feels after using it. I like to leave it a few minutes so that it fully sinks into my skin before moving on to the next stage of my makeup.

This next product is one that’s fairly new to my collection after I received it in a care package from Jemma. It’s the Youth Lift Glow-plexion from Studio 10 and it’s basically one of the most fantastic products ever. It’s essentially a primer, highlighter and illuminator all in one and it leaves my skin looking radiant, glowing and healthy. I’ve been using this after my inital primer and before my concealer and foundation all over my face to achieve a subtle, healthy glow. The Glow-plexion is incredible for multi-tasking as it can be used on its own or with foundation, either underneath to achieve a ‘glow from within’ look, or on top of foundation as a highlighter. I’m absolutely in love with it.

This is an absolute staple in my makeup collection as I literally have the worst dark circles to ever grace the earth. This one is the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in the shade ‘lemon’ and I’ve actually been liking this one better than my regular shade ‘fair’. It’s great at hiding my dark circles, and while I highly doubt that they’ll ever disappear completely, this does a great job at concealing them.

I’ve had the Erase Paste by Benefit in my makeup collection for quite a while now but I had never got on with it until recently. I’m not even sure how or why I rediscovered this but I’m so glad I did! It’s incredible for using on my spots as it completely covers them. While the shade is just a tad too dark for my skin (and it’s literally the palest shade in the collection) I have found that it works amazingly well under my foundation as it completely eradicates any blemishes or scars and leaves my skin looking extremely healthy. Benefit have actually rebranded the Erase Paste so it’s now called the Boi-ing Brightening Concealer, but it’s still the same formula and works just as well. To say that it comes in an incredibly small pot, I’ve actually been so surprised at how long it lasts as you really do only need a tiny bit.

The L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24H Matte Foundation is another new addition to my makeup bag. I’d been on the hunt for a really good coverage foundation for a while but I hadn’t really found one that I love, but I think this one has definitely changed my mind. It’s very long lasting and makes my skin look super smooth and flawless. I love the consistency of this foundation as it’s so easy to apply and doesn’t look cakey at all; it’s a definite winner in my book!

  1. I don’t actually own a foundation at the minute so this post has come at the perfect time! The Collection Lasting Perfection concealer sounds like something I HAVE to try, my dark eye circles are also nearing the point of needing their own postcode haha! I’m intrigued by the Erase Paste, I may have to pick one of those up! Thank you for sharing all your faves!

  2. Oh! I feel like ive reverted back to my youth with my foundation! Its Rimmel’s 24hr foundation. Although its a bit dark for my pale skin.

I love pore-fessional, I just never seem to buy it! Great post xx

  3. Ooooh, who would’ve thought that changing the shade of your concealer would make such a difference? I need to get into a better routine for my foundation/concealer routine. Wish I wasn’t so lazy and woke up early enough to do a bit more before work!

  4. The Loreal Infallible range is amazing for their shade range, I haven’t found a pale shade to match me that well from anywhere else. I don’t get on so well with primers though, but I might try the Porefessional as it seems more suitable for my skin and my sister has some I could *ahem* ‘borrow’ (never give back).

  5. Can I just say that I am super grateful you included the Infallible 24H Matte Foundation?? I have had my eye on it for the longest time. I tested Maybelline’s Matte Liquid Foundation and I felt like it was really heavy & cakey on me. This is a good confirmation that it’s safe to try! Thanks for writing this!!

  6. I have been mixing my foundations up some days using healthy mix and other days using the ordinary serum! Which is amazing. Definitely recommend it. I love the porefessional as well! Xxxxxx

  9. Apart from the Infallible Matte foundation I haven’t used any of these products, but they all sound great. I really liked the Infallible foundation when I first tried it but it really dried out my skin and turned it quite flaky unfortunately (strange because I have very oily skin). But I do love the original formula
