It’s no secret that I’m an incredibly girly-girl, which is obviously why chick flicks and rom-coms are my favourite films. Chick flicks are my favourite type of movie to watch either on my own or with the girls over a glass (or three) of prosecco; watching them with Matt just isn’t the same – sorry Matt!
In today’s post I want to introduce you to my all-time fave chick flicks that can be found on Netflix so you’ll never have a dull Friday night in again! While some of the best chick flicks of all-time have somehow been cast aside by Netflix, (what happened to Dirty Dancing, Bridesmaids, A Cinderella Story, Mean Girls, The Notebook, and one of my all-time faves: 10 Things I Hate About You?!) there’s still plenty of girly goodness to choose from.
1. Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
This is literally THE definitive teenager chick flick. I used to watch this religiously the day before we went back to school after the holidays. There’s something about Georgia that literally every girl can relate to at some stage; whether it’s not being happy with her appearance, trying to impress ‘The Boy’ or attempting to stand up to the school bully, this movie is definitely one of my all-time fave chick flicks.
2. What’s Your Number?
This stars the absolute BAE that is Chris Evans (the actor, not the presenter…) and Anna Faris and it’s just one of the best. The scene where they’re in the basketball court is iconic for me as I always remember wanting to recreate it one day. It’s all about a journey of finding love, only to realise that it was right in front of you all along…
3. 13 Going On 30
I think I was about eight years old when I first watched this with my aunty and it’s remained one of my favourites ever since. Jenna fantasizes about becoming an adult on her 13th birthday, only to find out that she’s become a 30 year old woman when she wakes up! The story may sound slightly silly but the message behind it; that you should never wish to grow up too quickly still resonates with me now.
4. Just Go With It
Just Go With It stars my absolute favourite actress ever: Jennifer Aniston. It’s such an amazing film and it always makes me feel incredibly happy whenever I watch it. Also, I’d absolutely LOVE to look like Jen-An when I’m her age #goals.
5. P.S I Love You
This film has Gerard Butler in; need I say more? It’s such a beautiful love story, but it’s full of unexpected turns and it’s great if you ever fancy having a good cry while eating chocolate. It’s basically the ultimate girly film.
6. Bride Wars
Ok, so I’m pretty sure most girls will have had ‘the scrapbook’ at some stage in their life; you know the one filled with all little wedding inspo stuff? Of course, now it’s all about Pinterest boards, but before that was a thing, Bride Wars absolutely hit the nail on the head with their depiction of what it’s like to for girls to plan their dream wedding. I mean, a June wedding at The Plaza? Basically every girl’s dream, am I right?!
7. The Longest Ride
I first watched this on the plane home from Dubai and I’m pretty sure I spent a good portion of the flight just crying. It’s not necessarily the saddest film in the world, it just made me feel all emosh. It’s a lovely film to watch as it’s pretty easy going but it’s full of all the lovey-dovey stuff.
An absolute classic. If you didn’t fall in love with Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing (although let’s be right, how could you not?) then you’ll have certainly fallen for him in Ghost. It’s the ultimate cheese-fest but it’s so beautiful and the soundtrack is just lush.
9. Magic Mike
*Swoon*. Despite the blatant lack of a good storyline, I can’t help but include Magic Mike in this lineup. It’s basically a movie about hot guys doing their thing, I mean there’s probably a storyline in there somewhere, but I’m pretty sure it just gets lost amongst all the removal of clothing…
10. What To Expect When You’re Expecting
This movie has an all-star cast including Hollywood faves such as Cameron Diaz and Chris Rock but it also has some surprise actors such as Chace Crawford, Cheryl Cole and Anna Kendrick. Basically, it has plenty of famous people and plenty of laughs; it’s a true feel-good, funny film.
This is actually one of my favourite films of all time. A young Leo just absolutely melts my heart and I’ve loved the story for as long as I can remember. Despite it being over three hours long, I still cry my eyes out everytime, screaming at the TV “Don’t let go, Rose!”.
12. Fifty Shades of Grey
While this has received a plethora of opposing views, I still think it can be considered to be a chick flick. Featuring Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey, it’s essentially “mummy porn” but with a lovestory thrown in.
13. Safe Haven
It’s been quite a while since I last watched this but it’s still a beautiful movie, full of love and romance. It’s another one of Nicholas Sparks’ classic love stories but Josh Duhamel plays the ultimate leading role *all the heart-eyed emojis*.
14. Mother’s Day
This movie has some of my favourite ever actresses in (Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts) and is such a lovely film that covers a wide range of topics related to motherhood. It’s incredibly heart-warming to watch.
Clueless is obviously one of the most iconic 90’s movies ever. It’s so sassy, so funny and such an incredibly good watch. There can’t be a girl who grew up in the 90’s/00’s who hasn’t watched this absolute classic of a chick flick. AS IF!
What’s your favourite chick flick to watch on Netflix? Do I need to add any more to my list? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter @imjustagirl_16.
